Ratings: 'Two and a Half Men' delivers huge numbers

Despite Charlie Sheen’s recent negative media coverage, ratings for his sitcom are still huge: last night’s episode of Two and a Half Men scored an impressive 17.3 million viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings. That’s 1 million more viewers than the sitcom’s last new episode, which aired in December. Over on ABC, The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love actually grew about 1 million viewers from last week’s premiere. And Chuck may be one of the lone bright spots in NBC’s line-up as the action-comedy settled into its regular Monday time slot with a solid 7.3 million.

Golden Globes 2010: 'Glee' star Matthew Morrison talks about his nomination

Among Glee’s TV-pack-leading four Golden Globe nominations this morning were actor nods for stars Matthew Morrison, who plays William McKinley High School’s glee club coach Will Schuester, Lea Michele, who plays glee club’s obnoxious-yet-talented singer Rachel Berry, and Jane Lynch, who plays Will’s nemesis, the bare-knuckle-competitive coach of the Cheerios (WMHS’s championship-winning chearleading squad), Sue Sylvester.

We got the three stars on the phone today to ask about their red-hot new show and find out what it was like to be nominated for Globes just halfway through its first season. Read the Q&A with Morrison below, then check out our interviews with Michele and Lynch.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Have you had time to celebrate?
MATTHEW MORRISON: It’s really just talking to friends and family and responding to emails. It’s just been a nonstop morning.

Did you wake up early to watch the nominations?
No. I didn’t. My agent called me, but I was kinda tossing and turning all night because I knew it was happening. But I didn’t wanna watch it.

It’s been such a great year for you guys, and this must be such a great kind of reward after the first 13 aired.
Yeah, well, I’ve had a lot of perspective this morning, just kind of thinking back to when we started this thing and that feeling of hoping people would catch on to it. And then just watching the show come together and being recognized. This is just extra credit now.

Have you talked to any of the cast yet?
I was doing these interviews and Jane Lynch just called me. But I texted with Lea [Michele] and Dianna [Agron, Quinn] and Jenna [Ushkowitz, Tina] and Chris [Colfer, Kurt].

Have you heard from [Glee creator] Ryan Murphy?
Yeah I texted with Ryan this morning.

Are they psyched?
Ryan said, “You realize you’re a huge star now, right?”

You are! What does it mean to get a Golden Globe nomination?
I haven’t really processed that yet. I actually saw a 30 Rock episode not too long ago. Tracy Morgan had a necklace that said EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony. It’s kind of part of my introduction now. Everyone says “Tony-nominated actor Matthew Morrison.” So now I have another thing to put on there!

Are you going to celebrate the rest of today?
I’m gonna go play a round of golf with my dad.

Well congrats again and that finale was fantastic. I cried like a baby.
Well, we just won sectionals, and now Glee’s going to the Golden Globes. It’s been a good week for us.

I hope your round of golf is equally as successful.
Oh no, it’s gonna be s—ty.

'Glee': Source says there are plans to release original content during hiatus

Categories: News, TV Biz, Television

I know these last few days since the Glee fall finale have been tough, fellow Gleeks. Personally, I watched the “My Life Would Suck Without You” performance about six times, not wanting to let the show end. Glee is not scheduled to return with new episodes until April 13 (the cast and crew will begin shooting the back nine episodes in early January) but EW does have some info that will hopefully help you handle your withdrawal: sources close to the show say that there are plans to release original content during the hiatus (similar to how clips and music were released this past summer between the May preview and the season premiere) and that an episode marathon is being discussed prior to the series returning. While nothing is official yet, Gleeks, your best bet is to check out the series twitter and Facebook pages for updates.

Meanwhile, Fox says it’s not concerned about Glee’s four-month long hiatus. “If I were ABC, I would be concerned about FlashForward because those shows are ending in a downward cycle—Glee’s ending in an upward cycle,” says Preston Beckman, Fox’s EVP of Strategic Program Planning and Research. “The best news of all is that when it returns it’s gonna be sitting behind American Idol. So it’s not like we’re putting it in a time period where it’s gonna have to fight.”

'Jersey Shore' star 'The Situation' talks about MTV's controversial series

MTV’s Jersey Shore premiered less than a week ago but already has been the subject of growing controversy. Italian-American groups, like UNICO, have blasted the series for what they perceive as a negative portrayal of Italian-Americans and the use of the words “guidos” and “guidettes.” UNICO is now asking for its members to complain to MTV’s advertisers and for the network to remove the series from its schedule. EW talked to Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, one of the series’ cast members, about the controversy surrounding Jersey Shore, his new best friend Pauly D, and whether or not he’d do a second season.

On his newfound reality fame:
“I’ve only been out one night since the show aired and as soon as I walked into the bar it was pretty wild. People were like, ‘Oh my god that’s him. That’s The Situation.’ And then people asked me to take pictures and stuff like that.” (Read full post)

Exclusive: Kristin Cavallari and Whitney Port talk the next seasons of 'The Hills' and 'The City'

EW was lucky enough to be on the scene at MTV studios last night for the live finale of The Hills and The City. The big news of the night was that the network has greenlit new seasons of both series, set to air on MTV in 2010 (The Hills goes back into production in early January while The City begins filming this week). The series’ respective stars, Kristin Cavallari and Whitney Port, chatted with EW about their decisions to continue letting cameras follow their lives. “I’ve had the best time—I really have,” says Cavallari. “I feel like I have the best job! Why not?!” The budding actress also says she’s no longer worried about being pegged as a reality TV star. “It’s like I’m in it now,” she admits. “I might as well keep going [laughs]!”

Meanwhile, the next season of The City will focus much more on Port’s attempt to succeed with her own fashion line. “That’s my reality,” says Port. “It’s where this collection is going to be sold, who we’re going to put it on, what magazines it’s going to be on.” We’ll also, of course, get a peak into Port’s social life and friendships. “Just Rox [Roxy Olin, Port's best friend and roommate] and I exploring the city together a little bit more and learning who we are.” And don’t forget dating cute boys. Says Port, “Hopefully! I would love that—yes!”
