Box office numbers are in for Friday and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is dominating for a second straight weekend. The 3-D extravaganza starring Johnny Depp earned an estimated $17.5 million for its second Friday in theaters. On track now for a 57 percent drop, the PG-rated film is expected to earn around $58 million for the weekend and is likely to post a $200 million cumulative gross after 10 days.
The rest of the top five is led by new releases, with director Paul Greengrass’ The Green Zone the best performer of the bunch. But that’s not saying much. The $100 million Iraq war drama starring Matt Damon grossed an estimated $5 million on its first day in theaters. The weak bow should extrapolate to $15 million for the first three days. Third place will likely belong to Robert Pattinson’s romantic drama Remember Me. The inexpensive film co-starring Pierce Brosnan grossed an estimated $3.5 million on Friday, putting it on track to earn more than $9 million for the weekend.
The No. 4 spot four likely go to the R-rated comedy She’s Out of My League. The film grossed just over $3 million on Friday for a projected weekend take of $9 million. And No. 5 should belong to Our Family Wedding, whose $2.5 million Friday gross is likely to translate into $8 million by Sunday. Check back tomorrow for a full report.

Alice was pretty good. I was happy with it. I am glad it’s getting all this income lol
No accounting for taste.
The same could likely be said about you, THX
Why the ‘lol’ ?
Its okay, I prefer the animated version. As for “Remember Me”, Robert Pattinson can’t act and is not a real man, unlike these two studs:
When releasing the Box Office estimates it’s important to the theater count.
Like for Green Zone it’s over 3000, same for ‘She’s out of my league’.
Meanwhile ‘Remember Me’ is playing on 2100 screens and Our Family Wedding only 1600 screens.
So Green Zone is a real disaster, but I’d also say ‘She’s out of my League’ is tanking for the amount of screens it’s on. Wedding is overperforming, and ‘Remember Me’ is doing as expected.
Pattison still is not a boxo star outside of the Twilight movies — GOOD! because he’s not that special as an actor. He has 0 charisma, charm, and his acting ability is found on any smalltown stage in America.
He’s got to break out of that brooding sulky mood he portrays on camera. I wonder if he has the gift to do that?
Pattinson IS a box office star, and he is a fantastic actor in this, as he was also in the five or six movies he did before Twilight.
This was a thought-provoking, interesting movie. Personally I like going to see something which is not a retread of the same old Hollywood plot. This was original, the cast was believable, including Pattinson, and it gave me something to think about after I left the theatre.
Dream on Twihard, Pattinson doesnt have the box office spark like say ‘Johnny Depp’ or ‘Leonardo Dicaprio’…like I say..dream on…GANDOFF!
I agree TTC on some points. He is not a box office star yet, but I see promise. With whatever problems RM had, Rob still was amazing in it. He was also amazing in Little Ashes. I think Bel Ami and Water For Elephants will be the deciding factor on his box office economic viability.
You realize that to be a “box office star,” one has to actually star in films that…do well at the box office? I have yet to see any evidence that Pattinson on his own is a draw outside of Twilight, and this movie isn’t going to change any minds.
“I think Bel Ami and Water For Elephants will be the deciding factor on his box office economic viability.”
And if those bomb, what will the NEW films be that will be the deciding factor on his box office economic viability?
totally agree with you…
Fantastic actor?
Hahaha. We’re half a month away for April Fools’ Day aren’t we?
These dopey women are easily swooned by a pretty boy who spends more time in front of a mirror than they do on an average day. If this clown wants to be considered a serious actor, then lets see him tackle a serious role where he’s got to shave that Friend’s haircut off of his brainless head and actually do more than that ridiculous, one-note posturing he does in front of the camera. He needs to work on his acting rather than worrying if he has enough hair-coloring on his beard stubble.
You women who defend him are pathetic!
Pattinson’s movie actually finished 4th BEHIND an R Rated comedy featuring no big names which means that Pattinson (like Megan Fox) is NOT a Box Office Star but appears in a hit movie series.
He can’t act to sabe his life…kind of has a Hayden Christensen vibe to it.
Yes, but I bet he can spell ‘save’. Thanks.
Haha. You can’t even spell “save” right, dude. Get a life. However well “Remember Me” does, he still did just fine in the role. I’m not a “Twilight” fan but to say this kid can’t act is doing him a pretty big disservice. You’re probably just finding people to criticize when you’re cleaning out the trash during your late night shift at McDonalds.
It’s a typo, fools.
That’s all they got as a comeback.
I think he has it in him.
Depp and DiCaprio certainly experienced times when they were not respected.
We’ll see where Pattinson’s career goes, but like others have said, I think he has charisma and the potential to be a good actor.
Critics knew that DiCaprio had the acting chops after “This Boy’s Life.” They may have dissed some of his movie choices (like “Man in the Iron Mask”) but they never doubted his acting ability. I think DiCaprio was lucky that he had solid film credits before “Titanic.” (He was nominated for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”). He had something to point at and say “Look, I can play other characters. I don’t have to play Jack all the time.”
Depp and DiCaprio also took a variety of roles to get themselves out of their teen idol ruts. Depp did Edward Scissorhands, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? and Ed Wood. DiCaprio did Gilbert Grape (BEFORE his teen idol days, no less; he got an Oscar nomination), The Beach and The Basketball Diaries, and this was before his Scorsese streak.
Pattinson doing Edward Cullen-lite is not comparable to Depp and DiCaprio, sorry.
To add to that, many critics who didn’t like the movie still thought that he was likable in it.
Hence, the rotten tomatoes consensus (which is negative in regards to the film overall) starts by saying that the leads are likable. In my opinion, that’s a step in the right direction for Pattinson.
I saw the movie today and highly recommend it. If you doubt he has the acting chops to last, go see it. you’ll be impressed.
Do the math please before you start judging. Among the top 3 movies, Remember Me was on the least number of theaters (2,212) compared to Green Zone (3,003) and Alice (3,728). On a per screen basis, RM did almost as good as Green Zone (1,627 vs 1665) according to boxofficemojo.com. Given that Summit only spent $16M for the movie, I think Robert is well worth the investment
Well you do the logic. Remember me just BARELY managed to do better than an R-rated Rom-con with no name actors in it. Compare that to a Romantic drama with a star whose face is on every magazine daily. A star from a billion dollar franchise. And Green Zone is an Iraq war movie about weapons of mass destruction. A left-leaning political movie, how many people are up for that type of thing right now. Have you heard of The Hurt Locker? How much money did that make? Like $15 and it just won an Oscar for movie of the year. For all the hype about this guy, Pattinson’s movie should have made $30 Million easy this weekend.
Dustybob, Depp was a teen idol at one point and most of his movies didn’t rake in the dough until Pirates. They weren’t those kinds of movies. Some of them even did terrible at the box office and remain flops on DVD to this day. Edward, Gilbert, Ed Wood and some of his other films achieved “cult” status, but most of the public had no interest in Depp or the movies he’d made until Pirates. Now all of a sudden he’s God’s Gift To Acting, especially when some are trying to denigrate this Pattinson kid by comparing him to JD. I don’t know why some people want RP to fail, but putting him up against a 45 yr. old Depp doesn’t really make sense.
Pattinson is young and doing no worse than many (including Mr Depp) did at his age and time in the industry. The Twilight films had a built in audience with the books selling so well so it’s no shocker they did boffo
That said, this new movie cost all of like $12 million to make so an opening weekend of $9 million is actually pretty good having comp’d 3/4 of the budget.
And I applaud Mr Pattinson for sticking by his statements that he isn’t in this to be a celeb and not just going after the next easy money little substance studio flick but actually voluntarily earning his stripes in some rougher stuff. You can learn a lot and work with some great folks being in those ‘duds’.
Where are you getting your $12 Million estimate? The movie costs $15-20 million to make and then add another $5 million for marketing. Pattinson is Summit’s golden goose and regardless what spin they put on it, they were expecting all those twi-hards to get in the theater and make them a lot more than a silly $9 Million. The guy is British, Pierce is Irish, Emilie is Australian and Olin is Swedish. I’m sure they all feel sympathy for 9/11 victims but they have no idea how traumatic it was for our country. I’m sure they would be outraged if an American actor went to Europe and used a recent national tragedy for a cheap plot device. What type of substance is a movie that uses gimmicks to get tears out of the audience? But you are probably one of those silly twilight fans who think this movie is “deep”. You people don’t know what either deep or substance means.
Ok Inconvenient Truth, get off your self righteous high horse for a moment, because Remember Me isn’t the first movie about a love story set against the backdrop of an American tragedy – remember a little movie called Titanic? Hollywood has been using real-life tragedies to make movies for years. Some of us “silly Twilight fans” who enjoyed the movie probably did so because it was about loss and human suffering, which is a universal theme, so it shouldn’t matter where the actors are from. If you think something is dumb, that’s fine, it’s your opinion, but that hardly entitles you to insult someone who has a different preference.
I agree about the lack of charisma. Watch his interviews. They’re always awkward, even with the most seasoned interviewers.
to sally. I saw remember Me. Did you? I thought the acting was great… from Pattinson to the young girl..You can be a good actor and not a BoxOff star. A lot of actorsfilm in the same genre..be patient..why so critical???D
The acting in Remember Me was solid and the characters were realistic and relatable. This is an introspective movie with a thought-provoking ending. It isn’t typical feel-good fluff. It will probably cater to those who think outside the Box-office-box…and those who don’t.
I didn’t think Alice in Wonderland was that good. It looked good, but for the whole package, it wasn’t even close to being a great movie.
Basically, everything did as expected.
Remember Me was an inexpensive movie, as said in this article. Summit itself predicted the film to gross between 8 and 10 mill. It did as expected.
I for one saw the movie, and enjoyed it, though I’m not a fan of the ending.
agree, but i walked in the movie knowing the ending thanks to people on ew.
WHy do people forget as well that Remember is only in like 1000 theatres and Alice is in like 3500. Obviously that is going to affect income at the end of the weekend.
Remember Me is in over 2,200 theaters. And Summit put out the spin about “expecting” only $8-10 million late in the week when they realized the movie had both bad tracking AND bad reviews. I bet you my entire trust-fund that somewhere in that studio is a memo predicting $20-40 Million for the first weekend.
Wow are all Summit movies inexpensive? I mean, apparently this new movie, and those p.o.s. Twilight movies are super low budget.
Yeah ALICE IN WONDERLAND is like a christmas ornoment.. pretty on the outside but empty inside
Thank you, women of America for not making this one-note idiot a major star!
Some people in the entertainment industry would say that your statement is premature.
He’s only been in a few films so far (so he doesn’t have a lot of experience), this movie was low-budget, opened in 2000 theaters, and was projected to make between 8 and 10 million. It will do as expected. I personally think it’ll make 10 or 11 mill.
He’s going to be in Water for Elephants, as well as Bel Ami, so I personally want to see more of his other projects before I make a judgment.
But, you’re totally entitled to your opinion.
exactly.
To me, the real shocker here is that Green Zone opened on 5000 screens, yet only made 5 mill.
5000 screens? Are you sure?
Actually, on AT THE MOVIES, A.O. Scott of the NY Times reviewed the movie and flat out said Robert is not a good actor. He proved by showing a scene from “Remember Me” where he was totally hamming it up.
Let’s not exagerate. Green Zone opened in a little over 3000, not 5000 and Remember me in 2200 screens. No film has that many screens, get real.
Nice to see people that don’t know what they’re talking about (this is aimed at Terri).
Green Zone more than likely WAS on 5000 screens with an emphasis on “screens.”
I work at a movie theatre and take Alice in Wonderland as a perfect example. We have it in 3D on 2 screens and 2D on 2 screens. While our theatre would only add one theatre to the amount of theatres, it’s on four screens on our theatres.
So basically, most movies are on more screens then theatres…
Bryan, shut your trap. clearly YOU are the one who doesn’t know anything. There aren’t enough screens (with everything else playing) for any movie period to open on 5000 screens! If so, then Transformes, Avatar, Harry Potter and Twilight would have done so. either look it up or start paying attention at work instead of picking your nose.
Nate, learn to read. Screens are not theatres. Green Zone is in around 3000 theatres, however, a lot of theatres nowadays have a decent amount of screens. The four theatres in my area have 12, 14, 16, and 18 screens respectively. So big movies tend to go on more screens then theatres. How is this hard to understand? Or, go read this http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2684&p=.htm or at least the line “Showing on approximately 7,400 screens at 3,728 sites, Alice in Wonderland’s opening stands…”
Nobody gives a crap about Iraq movies. WHAT Locker??? Nobody cares!
hey!!! my cousin’s over there risking his life to save your sorry a*s, you SHOULD care what’s going on in Iraq/Afghanistan so you can continue to have the freedom to spout idiotic comments that make you sound like an ignorant f*cktard.
Kara seems slightly ignorant because if we didn’t go to war with Iraq/Afghanistan we would still have those same freedoms. Slightly educate yourself before attempt to make a personal attack on someone so you don’t appear like an idiot next time.
@THX It’s Hurt Locker, and a lot of people do care, like the Oscar folks and me. @Kara, I don’t need my ass saved. I am not a believer in “dying for my freedom” rhetoric when the wars are remotely connected to my freedom, but instead tend to aggrevate matters more.
Awesome! Go Tim Burton! Alice in Wonderland is a wonderful film! I hope it makes over 50 mil this weekend!
I enjoyed Remember Me. Strong performances from an endearing cast. Ending was perhaps a little contrived…but worth seeing.
I totally agree.
Overall, I agree with rotten tomatoes’ consensus that the leads were likable, but the script had some issues, and the ending was offensive.
Thanks, Andrea. I agree that Remember Me is a wonderful, thought-provoking drama. It reminds us that life can be taken away in an instant, so we should live life to the fullest. Rob will go far.
If Robert Pattinson becomes a critically acclaimed actor…it’ll be years from now. I’ve seen interviews and he seems like a nice guy, so I can see why people root for him.
I think he’s relatively charming, but he needs to work on his acting. I saw Remember Me, and while it was a definite improvement (which is promising), he needs to keep improving.
somehow I think that day will never come…
Woo-hoo Americans #1, Faux American Brits good-bye
Remember me may be low budget but the marketing expenses were expensive according to Hitflix.
———————————–
Even more surprising or possibly telling, was the dismal $3.5 million the Robert Pattinson drama “Remember Me” found in the third spot. If lucky, the romantic drama could hit $10 million for the weekend. The film didn’t cost distributor Summit Entertainment that much to make, but they did spend significantly on a marketing campaign that didn’t truly open the movie. Pattinson’s box office clout will be severely diminished outside of the “Twilight” films until he has a true solo hit on his hands and this was not it.

Alice was not what i expected, and not in the good way,
For people bashing Remember Me becuase of Robert Pattinson, I understand them, they are too shallow to actually go a see a very good, real drama.
For all the others I recommend seeing Remember Me. You will not regret it, and for sure not forget it.
what do you expect. He wasn’t Sparkly
I saw Alice and liked it, I’m a big Tim Burton fan. I also Remember Me and liked it. I found RPatz to be charming and likable. The scenes between him and the young actress who played Caroline were excellent. The ending was rough but all in all well worth the money I spent. There is just so much backlash against this young man which I find pathetic. Talk about a LOT of jealous folks.
I went to go see “Our Family Wedding” yesterday & it was a pretty funny movie! The promotion for the movie was pretty much nonexistent, so I think it did ok for how little it was promoted.
rob was amazing in remember me are u kidding me. alice in wonderland SUCKEDDD robert was great in remember me . he deserves like an oscar or somthing,…. and r u kiddin me he CAN act the best actor acctually. i mean i cried alot in the movie. well ever 1 in the movie was crying but i think it should have gotten more money . i reccomend it 4 every 1. great movie i swear…..its beyond words… go team rob!!!
oh and there was that scene whee he he took off his shirt and a girl behind me screamed sooo loud and then acctually fell from her chair
ha ha ha. people u really have 2 c that movie its not just abot rob its also a great story
….. um….. you’re joking, right?
Yep. This message definitely establishes you as a credible reviewer. Thanks. I feel so much better about Rob P. now.
