The writers are anticipating a Victor void by bring in new bad guy Tucker McCall. And having a younger tycoon with biological ties to a Y&R original gives him a basis for a more permanent place on YR.

The problem with focusing only on the "main" characters is that there are differing opinions on who the "main" characters are or should be. I vote for Jack/Ashley/Sharon/Nick/Katherine/Kevin/Lauren/Michael/Jill. Those are who watch for.

Bergman and Lester both gave top acting performances. The Jill that you are probably thinking of was Deborah Adair who left Y&R to be on Dynasty and later went Melrose Place.
Braeden might be more believable if he was given believable storylines.

The Terry Lester departure story was that he did not like working with the actress who played Cricket/Christine who was terrible actress. I LOVE Peter Bergman. But, his assessment of where the stories should focus is not the same as mine.
I love all the Fisher/Baldwin clan. And I typically ffwd thru Vic and Nik. Would love to see Jack and Jill pairing.

I met Terry Lester at CBS in the early 80's.He was playing packman in the eatery and Introduced myself and he was a bit dismissive but then again he could have been having a bad day.I told him I was a fan of his work and he smiled and said thanks and went back to playing the game.So everyone has a bad day.I have read things about T.Lester not liking the fact that W.J.Bell used the show to showcase his own family. There is alot of nepotism in the biz right and wrong. And to be fair His daughter Lauraless Bell has no range as a actress.

Pros: JoJo is entertaining
           Love Janna's character
Hate to say it, but I like Gloria and Jeffery
           Nikki and Victor
           Noah and Eden
           Michael and Loren

Cons: Patty and Emily lookalikes (Saw that with Katherine and Phylis already)
            The new Malcom
            The cancer storyline
            Boring Chance
            Boring old looking Mac
            Evil Adam
            The baby swaping
            Stupid Ashley
            Stupid Slutty Sharon
            Stupid Doctor who switched babies
Can't stand Old Phylis with Nick
            Trashy Billy
             A worthy stoyline for Davon
Emily and Jack getting married after knowing each other a couple of days
The unrealistic Mac being a serogate when she has never carried a child full term

Looks like too many cons, time to stop watching Y & R!!!!!
Bergman, you have a nasty mouth. Try being more professional and keep your nasty comments to yourself about your co-workers

Just found this article. It was interesting to hear about first Jack. I never saw him as I've watched Y&R under 3 years, but I like Peter as Jack. However, I thought it a bit ungentlemanly to mention the maid s/l such in a negative way (even though I agree with him) since Kate Linder still works on Y&R & I believe she has been there longer than he. I'm also suspect of some of the things he says about Eric Braeden, as I've heard EB say something quite different as to certain subjects. But, I still really like him as Jack!

Wow! I also have learned alot from these posts! I have been watching from the early seventies!! I remember Terry Lester and enjoyed his light-heartedness and that smile. That smile is what prolly coined him the moniker of "Smilin' Jack"! It took me a while to get used to PG. (He shouldn't have a potty-mouth in an interview!) I am so surprized to learn of the animosity between PG and EB! I wonder if that energy is used to add depth to their scenes with each other.
What is missing is any mention of Lynn Marie Latham. Is she still directing? I have read blogs in the past that blame Y&R's lagging story lines to her. But y'all say that Y&R is on top again so I guess it's moot.
The brass does have to nurture the next generation of cast members...the name IS the YOUNG and the restless, afterall! Also, I agree about Jack and Sharon being implausible as well as Nick and Phyllis. But Ashley falling for Victor AGAIN and Sharon falling for Adam is perpostrous!! These characters are losing their depth IMHO. I DID like Nikki and Paul together even though it was too soon for Nikki...I remember when they were together eons ago when they were both sooo young!
I really want the baby-switch to be resolved soon. (It finally WAS on DOOL! I felt like starting a betting-pool to gamble on which switch would resolve first!) This storyline is losing its energy, and it shouldn't. What these two women went through should still be front and center in their lives and should still define them but they are moving on and it just doesn't feel right. Oh Well...
Bring back Kimo!!! ;-)
