'Spider-Man 4': Rachel McAdams shoots down casting rumor

Categories: Movie Biz, Rumor Police!

Late last week, reports spread across dozens of Internet sites claiming that actress Rachel McAdams has been cast to play a villain named the Black Cat in the fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise. If your spider senses got all tingly at the idea — well, sorry, but according to McAdams, it’s simply untrue. “That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” the actress, who will next be seen in the Dec. 25 action-adventure tentpole Sherlock Holmes, tells EW. “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.” A rep for Sony Pictures concurs: “It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days.”

Spiderman 3 was so terrible that it doesn’t matter who they cast in the fourth. They better have an AMAZING script or not bother wasting more money.

    • dave

      Exactly.

    • mario

i dont even care if the original cast returns. like you said, the script has to be good, if not it’ll turn out to be another summer blockbuster explosion-palooza with nothing worth holding on to.

    • Sheldon

      Riley, you are an idiot.

    • Stephen

watch it i love all the spiderman movies

      • Chris

uh oh!! better watch it!! Stephen will get you!

      • Alex

Just cos someone (everybody) doesn’t agree with you, doesn’t mean their an idiot. Grow Up.

      • Alex

Crap, I meant to say ‘they’re’ not their.
        Where’s my morning coffee?

    • TellyB

That sucks…Rachel McAdams playing a seductive villainess in a black leather catsuit? Shit! That alone would’ve made the film worth the price of admission…

      • Caleb Richardson

You’re just horny. Quality is what we need, not just hot girls in tight clothing. Go watch jenifers body if thats what you want.

      • Alex

        Or Catwoman=))

      • ntradio

The “Black Cat” character isn’t a villainess in the comics. Hot and sexy yes, a bad guy… not so much.

    • KEVIN

OMG it was not that bad!

      • Caleb Richardson

You are right it was not that bad, it was terrible.

  • jordan

spider man 3 was one of the worst things ive ever seen, this better be good.

    • Sheldon

      Jordan, you are an idiot.

      • adam

No, Jordan is not an idiot. And neither is Riley (above).

      • Gina

        Sheldon, YOU are an idiot.

      • Sugato

Dude, I hope Sheldon from Big Bang Theory finds you and kicks your butt for dissing comic book hero movies. I’d pay to see that fight.

    • irvin

I agree, it totally sucked. That could be the franchise killer, because now part four has the be well above average to get people to come back and spend money.

by the way Sheldon your the idiot.

  • Lia

Worry about casting when you’ve nailed down a great script. If Spidey 4 is like Transformers 2 I will be ticked

  • Adwina Lambert

I don’t like Kirsten Dunst especially her cutsie voice.. she’s like the Katie Holmes of the Spidey franchise… all mopey-eyed and angst ridden! Give us Rachel McAdams… or just give us her charcter in Mean Girls… Regina!! Tee-hee!

    • Nick T

      Communist!

    • Gabby

I actually didn’t mind Katie Holmes too much in Batman Begins. For one of those cliche, idealistic do-gooder types, she actually wasn’t all that annoying. They just didn’t give Katie much to work with to be honest. I didn’t really mind Kirsten Dunst in Spider Man either, but the on-again, off-again romance between Mary Jane and Peter Parker was a bit much. Unfortunately, these are very much your token damsel in distress roles that are all too typical of superhero movies.

      • Gina

I agree. Kirsten dunst’s character Mary Jane is such a Mary Sue.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

I have never understood the animosity towards Spiderman 3, sure it was not as good as the second one but it wasn’t terrible either. It had some great Character Development and a dark edgy storyline that was very well done. When I saw it in theaters the audience I was with clapped at the end, maybe I was in a parralell universe or something I don’t know.

I do hope the 4th was one is good with a solid script.

    • J.

No one liked Peter Parker going EMO, nor Topher Grace as Eddie Brock, and Venom got short changed because of Sandman and Hobgoblin. It was all kind of ridiculous, if you ask me.

    • Gina

There were too many things wrong with the third installment to even begin to try and explain.

  • Mac

Oof! Spidey 3 left a bad odor in the room. I agree with everyone else, the 4th script better be good. Kristen Dunst is great, and I especially liked her in the second movie. She doesn’t always pick the best movies, but can be great when used right. Not as good looking as Jessica Alba or Megan Fox, but a MUCH better actress.

  • Blue Silver

I’m sure Sam Raimi will bring us an epic Spidey 4. He knows exactly what went wrong with 3. He’s gonna bring his A-game now!

  • Brooke

I was really hoping for that, actually. Rachel would have made a great Felicia.

  • m

‘I was hanging out in Toronto the other day..’ watching Battle of the Blades at the Gardens..

  • merrie

NO Kristen Dunst is annoying. She should not be in Spiderman 4. They should cast Kate Becksinsle or Rachel Mcadam are perfect choice. Katie Holmes is a boring actress. She should stay home and take care of Suri.

    • MattyB

I agree. KD is terribly miscast as Mary Jane. She just plays her as mopey and codependent. And how many times can the finale revolve around her being in danger.

Sam Raimi was forced to add Venom to the film and it threw everything else off balance. The Black Suit story alone would have been sufficient…but there was so much else wrong with the movie, these fixes alone would be merely minor improvements.

The quality drop from Spiderman 2 to Spiderman 3 was so drastic. I hope they make up the deficit. Spiderman 2 is one of the best movies in its genre, and it was a shame to see the follow up be so terrible.

  • adam

Spiderman 3 was a big, steaming pile of garbage. I was embarrassed sitting in the theater watching it. I couldn’t believe there was such a drastic drop in quality after Spiderman 2. Even though I had a few complaints about Spiderman 2, all-in-all, the first two films were great. It was definitely sad to see a great franchise turn into complete trash. Hopefully they can turn it around with #4. However, my expectations are very low. They need to write a great script before they worry about the cast.

  • Peyton

NOOOO!!! I was really hoping she was going to do it!!! She was the Perrrfect choice! This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Shamrock

Spiderman 2 had some scenes that didn’t work or make sense, but definitely the best of the three.

  • irvin

there was to much going on in the movie, to many characters trying to get screen time, Venom was lost in the mix, Topher was not a good Venom. The script was a big let down.
The black suit is part of the history of Spiderman, I dont know why people all flipped out over it, if the movie was done better people would have loved the black suit. I urks me when they say he went all emo, he was in the black suit before there was such a phrase as emo.

    • MattyB

I don’t think people minded the Black Suit so much (although I was hoping they would resist going to it & Venom so damn early in the franchise’s life!). What made me gasp on my popcorn was how they made Peter look EMO in his street clothes (with his combed forward mop & hint of eyeliner). I know in the comics Peter wears a black t-shirt & jeans during this phase, but in the movie (& I use that term so loosely) they make him up like he’s My Chemical Romance’s #1 Groupie.
