The first episode of CBS’ much-hyped, three-night CSI crossover scored, according to preliminary overnight ratings. Guest star Laurence Fishburne helped CSI: Miami earn 13.8 million viewers, a boost of 1.3 million from last week’s episode. Elsewhere, it was a pretty standard Monday night with ABC’s Dancing with the Stars dominating with 17.6 million viewers. Over on The CW, the controversial threesome episode of Gossip Girl (2.3 million) gave the series only a slight boost from last week’s 2 million.

It has to hurt Gossip Girl when even after that level of hype, it can still only get a 2.3 rating.
At least creatively the ep seemed to do well.
I have to say that I still surprised that Heroes can pull a 5 despite how god awful it has become.
The best part of these results is that Caslt is still doing well. I love that show!
I can’t believe that One Tree Hill has high ratings than Gossip Girl…that’s sad.

I enjoy watching Castle. However, what a horrible name for a show! I always forget what the show is about until I watch it again. Castle does not describe a show about a novel writer that helps/watches crime cases. I don’t think that “Murder she wrote” would have been so popular if the show had such an obscure name.
It’s not at all unusual for a show to bear the name of its main character. Did “The Cosby Show” describe an upper-middle-class black family comedy? Same with “Banacek” and “Becker.” And to a certain extent the same can be said for “Magnum” and “House” although they do have (often forgotten and overlooked) initials after their names that give a clue to the nature of the show.
I have no idea what this show was about. I agree with the previous poster. Maybe if the title suggested anything about the show other than the character’s last name I might have tuned in. The Cosby show had a familiar name to go by because Bill Cosby was very popular before the show aired because of his previous work in television, movies, and stand up.
Ahh … but it does. His name is Rick Castle. Say it fast. And that gives you a clue. And he’s a novel writer. Which means its his name.
If you watch the show, you know he’s castle. And he has this amazing world surrounding him … hence a castle. It works.
What brings me back each week is the amazing writing, characters, and snark. Oh and the characters.

why is it that jay leno is considered a failure with 4mill viewers and crud like the kardashians getting 3mill warrants them praise and magazine covers and why are they famous?? why do people watch them??? are americans really that hard up for entertainment??
That’s the difference between network and cable television. If a cable tv show gets more then a million viewers it’s a big hit. If a network tv show, on one of the main three networks, scores less than 5 million viewers it’s a flop.
And people watch the Kardashians cause they’re hot, and they’re comfort television.
Leno is on one of the big three (four if you want to count CW) networks which are shown in more homes than any network that is just on cable or satellite.
If you look at the high end of these ratings then compare them to Leno’s numbers, you can see that NBC is taking a huge hit in ratings by putting on this cheap to produce show.
I think more than anything Leno is considered failing by many people because it is not meeting the expectations set by people… the NBC executives might see things a bit different.
As far as the Kardashians go- I am with you on that one. I also know that my wife watches it. I think she does it because they are outrageous and it is not a big investment. She can watch it, or not. Either way she doesn’t care, but it draws her in enough that she will watch it at some point… even if it is later that the original date.
I think Fox qualifies as the fourth of the big 4.
I was wondering if the CSI trilogy would boost any of the three. I know the only reason I watched CSI: Miami was because there would be a story line that went through the two I normally watch. I can’t stand Caruso, but didn’t want to miss part of the story line.
Same here. I wanna fully understand the crossover, hence I watched the only episode of CSI: Miami I will watch all season. I love the other two CSI’s though, so 2/3 is good enough for me!
I’m hoping I can get the gist of the story on the “previously on” recap. You couldn’t pay me to watch David Caruso in anything.
I couldn’t make myself watch Miami. But I don’t think you had to watch it. Each show is seperate. It may get confusing in understanding what and why Fishburn says things in the final one, but each was written as an individual ep with connections outside of it.

I am really looking forward to Heather Locklear heating things up on the all new “Melrose Place”. The new show is VERY low rated and needs a Heather’s magical bad girl touch.
