Ratings: Charlie Brown and his pumpkin stun 'Dance' wannabes into submission

ABC had its best Tuesday night in weeks with the magical/creepy combo of It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and Dancing With the Stars: The Results to help ease viewers into the Halloween spirit. The Great Pumpkin (word to yo’ pumpkin?) drew in over two million more viewers than So You Think You Can Dance (which averaged 6.5 million viewers over two hours), though Pumpkin sadly did not perform up to usual standards. Last year, 20 percent more people tuned in for the Charlie Brown special, which at one point could draw in around 11 million viewers. NBC’s The Biggest Loser came out a winner Tuesday, increasing its audience by about a million from 8-10 p.m. for an average of 9.8 million viewers. CBS still performed mightily by airing three procedural repeats.

Frankly I blame the horrible rapping commercials for the loss in viewers.

  • Snarf

Agreed. Why, WHY? Do marketing flacks feel they need to “urbanize” everything? Knock. It. Off.

  • ben

Jay Leno got beat by a repeat of the good wife??? Holy crap where’s the cover story on that?

    • anu

Not only did Jay Leno get trashed in ratings by a repeat of The Good Wife he was trashed by The Forgotten too it seems. He just needs to retire already. I want my additional hour of programming. Bring back Chuck instead!

  • Quirky

Why is it when we’re only 4 or 5 shows into the new season, we’re already getting reruns? We should be getting a solid 10 to 12 weeks of new episodes and only getting repeats in the busier Christmas holiday times.

    • TK

Um, because they have been doing this for years now, and stretch the season out. Where have you been? I’m sure you asked the question without expecting an answer, though, so you must like talking to yourself…

  • Gonzalo

Uhmmm… pretty sure Melrose Place was a re-run. I know its ratings haven’t been great, but that 0.8 mill is really misleading.

  • Cary

Can we talk about how Melrose had less than a million viewers- CANCEL!

    • Tom

Sure, doesn’t matter that Melrose is a great show with brilliantly fun writing and is loved by everybody who has seen it—–let’s cancel it for no reason and not give a reason. Cary, that is just lame. Melrose Rocks!

  • Rob

Wow 0.8 for Melrose I have never seen that before, how do you not cancel a show like that when it did those numbers, just put on a repeat of Vampire Diaries.

    • Lily

Melrose Place was definitely a repeat last night.

  • Otis

And do you really think that Charlie Brown was anything other than a cheap babysitter on the TV with the meter?! Figures lie and liars figure and with over 100 channels, ratings are no longer a measure of anything.

  • Tom

I almost threw my remote at the TV when Charlie Brown said to ” stay tuned and check out his homies “. There’s no need to urbanize poor ol’ Chuck. It’s bad enough that every Halloween, Lucy punks him into thinking she’s going to let him kick the football and he ends up flat on his arse.

What the ratings report is forgetting or not knowing is that the Charlie Brown cartoon will air again Wednesday night. So it will get its 11 million viewers if not more. In other news DWTS Results is up in the ratings for the 3rd or 4th consecutive week. But I felt the best show on last night was Theforgotten. And I’m glad to see its ratings shooting upward.
