Ratings: ABC's 'DWTS' and 'Castle' deliver big to win the night

ABC was the big winner last night with Dancing with the Stars and Castle both seeing boosts from last week’s airings, according to preliminary overnight ratings. Stars nabbed 17.8 million viewers (up from 1.3 million from last week) while Castle hit 11.1 million (up 1.2 million from last week). A possible reason for the uptick in ratings? CBS’ powerful Monday night line-up was all in repeats.

Castle’s rating is almost twice as high as Heroes. Love it.

  • Al

Jay Leno is now consistently pulling fewer viewers than he did on the Tonight Show. He was getting 7 million a night at 11:35.

  • Lisa

I can’t believe a CSI Miami repeat still beat Castle in ratings. Castle is way way better than CSI: I can’t act

  • Jackie

Why is Heroes even still on with ratings like those? It’s ridiculous.

  • Jackie

    Oh and Go Nathan!

  • erin

love castle!!! keep up the good work! my fav show!!

  • Verity

Who says a Firefly reference can’t deliver? Promise us a glimpse of Mal Reynolds and we will deliver. Yay for Castle!

    • Christa

Totally agree!! I was hooked when I saw him come out in costume! could not turn the channel or turn it off!

  • adam

Repeats of Two and a Half Men are still the most watched comedy on TV. That saddens me. Sigh.

    • Tim

Agreed. Sad, forced, dated television. Death to the laugh track!

  • Sally in Chicago

The DWTS dance-off was a thriller.

  • Michelle

Go Castle! Last night’s episode was BRILLIANT!

  • VJW

I wish “Castle” was on 2 or more nights a week. I just LOVE that show! I’m glad its ratings are climbing. Great news.

    • Nikkido

      That’s what HULU is for.

I have already re-watched it and shown open sequence to non-castle but Firefly fan.

  • talkin’

    Yes Castle!

  • Nerwen Aldarion

Glad to see Castle doing well, with Heat Wave number 11 on the NY Times bestseller list things are looking good for Fillion’s show.

  • Blue Silver

    ‘Castle’ rules!!

  • Gwen

The ratings for “Castle” would have been even higher if our stupid Philadelphia ABC outlet had aired it instead of the stupid Eagles football game which was being shown on another channel!!! GRRRRR!!!

  • J

One Tree Hill hit 2.7 that’s a season high and much better than gossip girl. This season is so good, I don’t know how that managed to make a 7th season so fresh.

  • Lorie

    Kudos to Castle!

  • Shiny

Monday is the dullest night of TV. The only bright spot was Lie to Me.

    • m.

sad face @ “lie to me” ratings, i don’t think we’ll see next season or even this one extended…

  • DanB2666

The bigger questions is why CBS ran repeats? We are not very far into the new season, and for them to be putting repeats up already is just asinine.

    • Carrie

Tons of shows are rerunning this week or last week. I think a lot of shows run a week of repeats in October right before sweeps month.

      • Chappel

        That and baseball playoffs.

    • Ramubay

Because shows have less episodes per year. Once shows had 35, 39 or more episodes per season which meant only the best episodes were repeated during the summer. Now some seasons have only 24 episodes so they have to spread them out. Any show that brags they are a long running show is a scam. Most decade long shows today have only been provided 7 years worth of episodes.

  • Beth

Anytime Nathan can play Mal, people will come in droves to see it. We miss Firefly. I predict next week will be similar because people will see that he is just as charming on this show :D

  • Kris

Yay for Castle! It’s the show I look forward to most every week. Who knew I’d like Mondays?!

  • side3_1973

I love Castle…seeing NF dressed as Captain Mal made me very happy…it was the icing on the cake….I read that one of the regulars was dressed as his character in “Generation Kill” at Castle’s Halloween party…

  • cmarie

Absolutely enjoy Castle–characters are fun, believable and entertaining. Keep it coming!

  • B

I’m glad Castle is doing so well, but I’m worried about Lie to Me. That show keeps getting better and better, yet it’s languishing. FOX’s schedule changes are hurting their shows!

  • dawn9476

The appeal of DWTS baffles me.

  • ryan

Plus House wasn’t on either. Lie to me is a pretty good show as well. Ofcourse Castle is great. The problem is young people are starting to like CBS as well now. My wife just all of a sudden likes ncis and csi now. All these shows basically the same shows.

  • Harry Peters

That House guy is old. I bet his breath smells of coffee.

    • Coyote

Puppies have coffee breath and I like it.

  • AwesomeRococo

Bam said the lady! Go Castle!

  • Jen

Yay, Castle! My Monday line up is House, Lie to Me, and Castle. Best night next to Thursday’s Flash Forward and Survivor (on at the same time? Network programming bast*rds!)

  • Matt2

Dancing With The Stars just dominated last night. All of the competing couples are so talented and it’s a joy to sit down with the family and watch a show that is so fun, challenging, and entertaining without having to be like so many other reality shows that are nasty, bitter, mean spirited, cutthroat competitions. And yes Castle continues to soar up the ratings ladder!!!
