Tyler Perry’s done it again, as his I Can Do Bad All By Myself conquered the box office on Friday, according to early estimates. The dramedy, which is Perry’s seventh directing job in four years, grossed $8.6 million on its first day. That tally falls in between the debuts of his last two films: This year’s Madea Goes to Jail locked up $14.7 million on its opening day, while last September’s The Family That Preys earned $6.3 million its first day. Trailing Tyler Perry was the post-apocalyptic animated movie 9, which grossed $3.3 million to secure second place. Sorority Row took third place by pledging $1.93 million — an amount far below the opening-day results of The Final Destination ($10.8 million) and Halloween II ($7.6 million). Fourth and fifth place went to two holdovers: Inglourious Basterds, which dropped a scant 37 percent for $1.9 million, and the horrendously reviewed All About Steve, which slipped 49 percent for $1.8 million. Missing from the top five altogether was the new Kate Beckinsale thriller Whiteout, which froze into sixth place with $1.76 million. Check back here on Sunday for the complete box office report.

I did enjoy the movie. When my sister and I got to the theater, I young lady attempted to sell us a ticket for another show. The young lady told us that we could still use the ticket to see Tyler Perry’s movie as there was no one at the door to take our tickets. I have heard of this being done before to make ticket sales to certain movies seem less.

I read some of the other comments. People like that don’t support Tyler’s movies. Don’t get to worried about what they say. Usually they are at a Klan mtg. We are moving on without them. Get use to the new America. Our children play together, learn together and don’t have old hang ups…… Stop ruining life for the rest of us.

Not a bad number for 9 considering it opened in about half as many theaters as I Can Do Bad and Sorority Row. Saying that I Can Do Bad is the best Tyler Perry movie yet isn’t much of a compliment considering how bad most of his films are. None of these new releases are going to hold over well anyway, they are all niche films with small audiences.
I’ve sadly seen 2.5 of his movies by force, and it’s still such a shame THAT TYLER PERRY CANNOT APPEAL TO ANY OTHER DEMOGRAPHIC besides Black culture.
So all that leaves me is an unsatisfied Asian woman. :/

I think Tyler Perry is wonderful and this movie was by far a good Perry Movie. I haven’t been upset by any of his work and i think this was just wonderfully put together. Mary J. was exquisite in this. BRAVO!
I went and saw the movie friday night and really loved it. I cried and I also felt really inspired. Tyler’s films has a large african american base. I read on a post earlier where people were complaining about that. Let me put it to you this way, no one else is catering to black issuses. Look at the television shows none of them really has a black cast. The shows that did were on CW and they pulled them to. It wasnt because they were not getting the ratings either. YOu can loook that up. Tyler is tapping into a audience that for the most part is ignored. That makes him what….SMART!!!!All of his films always receive bad reviews and they say they are going to bomb, but instead he sets records and makes tons of people pissed. You can’t predict that. Go see the movie its worth the money…

Music videos on BET and MTV Are full of negative stereotypes about black people! Tyler Perry is positive because he shows the many facets of black life. Try watching all his movies and get a clue! What do you think black people shold look like in a movie?
The movie was wonderful. It made me laugh and cry. For those who “hate” Tyler Perry’s movies, just don’t go see them. How hard is that? Why do you feel the need to badmouth him for not appealing to you? Every film is not for everybody. I don’t like Tim Burton’s movies, but I don’t take the time to diss him online. Maybe you need to ask yourselves why you feel the need to that. Sheesh!
It’s very sad that people have to down success. If you do not like a movie or two that is fine, but to go and argue that his films aren’t good and post that, You have serious HATE issues. This movie appealed to all race, cultures, and ages. Who does “Jack Ass” appeal to? Who relates to horror films? There is a lesson in every movie he produces. His movies so hurt, love, and power. His films give hope to some and his movies allow you to laugh, cry and appreciate life. How many films allow that in one sitting? No many. If you’re jealous of the man, do something better with your life. As a matter of fact, read his life story and see how he went from nothing to have unsuccessful, hateful, jealous individuals writing negative comments about his success online. Have a blessed day.

I agree with you 100% and that’s not a likely thing for me to do. I looooved this movie and I am officially a supporter of Tyler Perry’s work. This movie was his best so far and he can only keep getting better (if the white man don’t try to have him assassinated). Go Tyler Perry! And Taraji P. Henson is the best female actor out! Better than Halle Berry if you ask me.

I have LOVED every Tyler Perry movie that I have seen (which is most of them). They are warm, funny, tackle some life problems that people knock up against, and end in a positive way. I love them. They are beautiful. And MADEA is the best. Why don’t you all take your negativity and hate and go away and post on something else. You are disgusting.

They talked about Jesus and crucified Him, so why should we expect anything less. I love Madea, I love the lessons and Stories TP tells in his movies. T.P.-I Can Do Bad By Myself In my opinion was hilarious, heartbreaking, and a life-lesson learned through his film. I believe Mr. Perry has a remarkable, unique, and creative mind. I am looking forward to seeing T.P. play “Laugh to Keep from Crying” next month. As usual, T.P. will bring out a large crowd expecting and receiving a good time. And we all will have alot of fun watching Mr. Perry’s work displaying creativity. *****5 Stars*****
