There’s no slowing down Harry Potter. The boy wizard’s sixth installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, grossed an additional $26.8 million on Friday, bringing its three-day total to an impressive $107 million. HP6 is opening stronger than its predecessors but is still tracking behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which had earned $127.8 million by the time it reached its first Saturday. HP6 will be buoyed by its family-friendly PG rating, though, and is expected to post some impressive numbers this weekend. Stay tuned for updates.

Great movie. Can’t wait for the last two.
Great movie probably my favorite one yet.
BOO harry potter sucks!
I think HP6 is suffering from the vacationing crowd, ie no one is home to watch it. TF2 had more people home at the time. Still it’s big for the franchise.
I saw harry potter 6 and transformers and liked transformers but was disappointed for the first time with a harry potter movie. I read the book and they left alot out and added stuff. Disappointed they didn’t have the line weasley is our king by slitherns and griffindors
i can’t wait to see this movie tonight! harry potter rules.
I really hope Harry Potter succeeds and becomes the top movie of the year. I liked both transformers and harry potter. I just want to see Harry Potter 6 become the biggest potter film so far.
I hope that Harry Potter kicks Transformers 2 butt. It was a great movie. Tranformers 2 was just plain bad.
Harry Potter was AWESOME. Though, I did not read the book so I understand that the book readers may be disappointed.
Transformers 2 was trash. I love a good action movie, but TF2 was just so immature and juvenile, it was beyond believable.
Ok. I havent seen the new HP6 movie yet. But I LOVED Transformers. I will say the same for HP6 as I did for T2. See the movie and dont let others detour you. People saying its not like the book well for me I can live with that a little. I will cut them some slack because they have so far kept close to the book series as much as possible thus far. So I will see it anyway and enjoy it for what it is.
Now, after saying that………GO OPTIMUS!!! I knew Optimus and Megatron werent going to go down to a boy wizard with a stick. This is the year of the Transformers. No contest.
I read the book, and I liked the movie very much.
HP6 was just gorgeously done. T2 was *garbage* (and it’s rare for me to say that about a movie) – it wasn’t even a good action film and the rest was quite literally cringeworthy.
I don’t go to a movie to see it gorgeously done.I go to a movie to see action and a lot of explosions.Transformers rocks!!!!
HP6 will be the highest grossing film of the series, but it wont match up to the Transformers 2 in money and action.
In story value HP 6 it surpasses Transformers 2.
Both films are good, but i like to shut my brain off at the door and enjoy some blowing stuff and not worry about having to think about plots or listening to the idiots that complain the row behind me how the book did this and the book did that, you know who you are idiot and by the way if your gonna talk so damn much make sure you learn how to brush your teeth better, you were killing me and i was a row in front of you.
HP was a good movie however the ending left you feeling as though you either missed something or unforfilled. It left way to many questions unaswered. In short great moving with a less than desirable ending.
Who cares if Harry hasn’t made as much as transformer’s after 3 days. I don’t think the point of the movie was to complete with transformers. Anyway, by the end of their box office runs at home and abroad, I have no doubt that Harry will be the clear champ – since you so clearly need to make this into a competition! Go Harry – the transformers have nothing on you!
who cares. not my money.
Who cares that Harry hasn’t made as much as transformers after 3 days. I don’t think the purpose of the movie was to compete against transformers. Since you are so set on making this some stupid competition – I have no doubt that after both of their box office runs at home and abroad – Harry will be the clear champ. Go Harry! The transformers have nothing on you…
HP6 is definitely in the running (with HP3) for my all time favorite HP film! Unfortunately, it isn’t about story telling or even entertainment. It is down to the almighty dollar $$$$! That’s why were being treated (please bring more money) to HP7A and HP7B. You’d think J.K. Rowling, the HP production companies, and WB had enough billion$! Nah, wrong answer! All you need is ca$h! (Sorry, John!)

The important thing is that we’re finally DONE with the media yapping about Bruno and critics trying to convince us that it is high art and comedic genius — after shocking the morons to see it on day one, it’s fallen from the face of the earth because it SUCKS! Well done, moviegoing public.
Now if the tweeny bop idiots would finally realize that you can see Megan Fox in a magazine and listen to loud music in your home and not be out the $10 you paid to watch that AWFUL Transformers movie.
The buzz coming out of theaters overall is not good for Harry Potter 6. The list of rants include; disappointing changes from the book, 3 hours with little action, and production values, cgi, etc. that’s basically retread from the last go-round. I think all the delays in release dates, the lack of IMAX screens due to the enormity of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, and a failure to increase its core fan base are all factors in its underwhelming performance as well. On the contrary, Transformers is a cross categorical success no matter what demographic you break it into. That said, HP6 will still be a success. Bruno, however, is another story. After collapsing +80% last night at the box office, there’s a strong possibility that it not only won’t even get to 10 million in its 2nd week, but also that it might not even make the top five as The Proposal and The Hangover are dead on its heels
HBP is simply NOT a good movie. Simply, not faithful to the book. And simply not a story that flows coherently or with a purpose.
Yates complained that there is too much in the book to include everything, yet, he found it necessary to add worthless scenes that WERE NOT in the book.
Yates and Heyman are jokes and WB should have fired them after Phoenix.
if you’re wanting to compare HP to Transformers, let’s compare HP7 pt. 2 with Transformers 3 in two years. the fact that the harry potter movies have been steadily growing since HP4 (though the first currently holds series best) shows that people want to see the more adult harry potter. if people can’t handle the fact that the sixth part in rowling’s series is more about character development, quite frankly i don’t care. the movie really did not stray that much from the book– and anything major not included was only taken out so that they could put it in the next movie. the battle was deleted for the purpose that the final movie is going to be practically 2-2 1/2 hours of battle. the last half an hour of the movie was INCREDIBLE, and the darkening of the screen as snape was standing in the corridor after the cave scene was a perfect transition from the calm before the storm to everything that happens afterwards.
I thought it was a great effort, and totally one of the best HP books brought to the big screen. Of course I’m disappointed in missing elements from the books, but it was still great.
That’s okay. I didn’t expect it to beat out Transformers 2. What I do expect is HP6 to not drop over 60% in the next week, which Transformers 2 already has.
This film was great!!!!! GO HARRY POTTER
It’s because the 6th book was THE BEST of the series. Just saw the film – the last hour rocks! The first 1.5 hours needs editing, continuity, and better flow – it reminds me of the first 2 where “the effects” and “scenes” took over. Anyway, the last hour saves it, you almost forget how disjointed, plodding, and missing many key-great elements of the book (example The Riddle House – GONE) the first 1.5 hours are.
Radcliffe breaks out in the Slughorn’s Memory/Aragog Funeral scene – he is a wonder and a riot! Do go see it, but you’ll have to have read the book to understand the first hour-and-a-half. (Why did Yates do so well directing Order-of-Phoenix and abandon all the heart of Harry, really, for this one?? Baffled…)
Truthfully I am a big fan of these movies but this one was long and boring. Also the end was so anticlimactic. As far as BO numbers go, it will win for world gross but it wont come close to T2 for domestic. Anyone who knows thes movies knows that they are frontloaded. Every rabid fan rushes out the first week and then it fades. I predict slightly over 300k since its tracking with Phoenix and its 2 years of inflated ticket prices later
And to add, HP6 does not cover AT ALL why Harry and Dumblodore go see Slughorn, that whole scene is wrong, Harry is entirely different in the book, he has no anger or confusion in this flick, he just goes w/ the flow. He doesn’t react at all when Snape is made Dark Arts teach, the Malfoy restroom scene is almost anti-climactic, and the Ginny-Harry scenes are stiff. Tonks dsn’t get Harry from the train – LUNA does! And Luna is thereafter dissed in the film, when she has some of the best parts of the book. Ugh! Anyway, as said before, the last hour saves it – everything from Slughorn’s Memory onward is great. OSCAR FOR RADCLIFFE!!
