Bruno was very funny and sick to watch. I didnt get people that walked out of the theater. The movie was great but borat was just a better character and a more friendly movie.

Dear “Saddened,”
Please tell this apparently uneducated person what jokes I missed in this movie.
My guess is that no one laughed at the “Mel Gibson is a Nazi” joke because they already had — five years ago.

Bruno is basically one big Will Farrell joke with less clothing and even more brain-dead repetition.
This is NOT one of those movies you have to be educated to “get” … SUBTLETY is something you need to be educated to get. A d*** in your face is the opposite of that (am I speaking slow enough???).
A Mel Gibson/der Fuhrer joke? OMG that is so highbrow … topical (a few years ago) … and sadly, the highlight for comedy in this movie.

To Bill:
I disagree with you, regarding Lisa’s opinion on Bruno. While I certainly side more with Owen on the matter, Lisa made a couple good points on what didn’t work on Bruno; mainly the Ron Paul sketch. Owen thought the threat of molestation didn’t warrant a ‘queer’ comment, but Lisa was more sympathetic. To be honest, so was I. No matter how liberal you are, if you think someone’s about to rape you, you’d say whatever to make sure he got off your back.
The sketches that leaned heavier to social commentary also felt stronger for the film’s raison d’etre, as opposed to the shock value ones (like the TV pilot one). But man, were the sketches on the latter category still outrageous to watch. I was in tears during the TV pilot scene.
The graphic sex/nudity did feel gratuitous at points, so I see why Lisa thought it was too much (and not from puritanical ideals). Still, it fit the over-the-top style Cohen brought to Bruno, so the nakedness didn’t bother me.

I loved Borat, and SBC’s show was fantastic. But I have to say I was underwhelmed by Bruno. It had some funny parts, but Bruno just isn’t as likeable a character as Borat was. It also seemed to me that Cohen’s heart just wasn’t in it, like he was just going through the motions a lot of the time. This was a big payday, and he was just getting it out of the way. That was my impression anyway. That being said, it’s still entertaining, just not as good as I know SBC is capabable of.
