Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs was No. 2 with $28.5 million, dropping only 32 percent from last weekend. The animated family film has made $120.6 million in two weeks. Third place went to the robots, as Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen smashed up $24.2 million in its third weekend, bringing its total to $339.2 million. Transformers 3 will be here before you know it.
Public Enemies (No. 4 with $14.1 million) and The Proposal (No. 5 with $10.5 million) round out the top five. The Proposal marks star Sandra Bullock’s first $100 million picture since 2000’s Miss Congeniality, and the romantic comedy should have no trouble passing 1994’s Speed to become Bullock’s biggest hit. The weekend’s other new wide release, the teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper, opened at No. 7 with $5 million.
Looking to the indie scene, a trio of films garnered decent openings. Blood: The Last Vampire drained $103,000 from 20 theaters. The “mumblecore” comedy, Humpday, made $30,000 on just two screens, and the music documentary, Soul Power, took $25,000 from six screens. The year’s best-reviewed film, The Hurt Locker, expanded to 60 theaters in its third weekend and earned $623,000 for a hearty $10,383 per-screen average. The Iraq War thriller will continue expanding into additional theaters over the next few weeks.

I loved this movie better than Borat. I especially liked the caged fight scene in Arkansas and the reactions from the rednecks.
My faith in the American public is restored! The critics may have fallen for this trash and called it art, but it appears that after the “shock value” opening, the people have realized that this no-talent hack is just another Paris Hilton and ignored Bruno. Look out below!

Wow – looks like even the suckers who went and saw it on day one because they’re into that type of humor couldn’t even recommend it to friends.
I’m sure some will cry homophobia or people being old-fashioned — I think it’s just that some people expect a comedy to be funny and not just desperate attempts to shock people.
I went and saw this show last night. I thought it was hilarious and very funny. I could see the men squirming in their chairs over the explicit gay scenes, but it was very funny, and you dont go to one of his shows, unless you expect to have jaw dropping humor, and there was alot of that.
I think that there was a mixed bag of strong response and complete turnoff with Bruno’s box office results. It’s doing well with adult audiences with its comedy and strong controversial adult content, but it was facing against the family and kid driven Ice Age. I can see the $2 million difference between both movies’ finishes this weekend. And Transformers is still performing strongly in its 3rd weekend. Because it’s a mockumentary and not straight up dialogue and acting fare like the typical movie competition, it might lose some momentum later this week and next week. People wanted to see what the fuss was all about.
Hayden Panettiere’s a talentless bimbo who slept her way to the *middle*; ’cause let’s face it– besides her talents on the ‘casting couch’ and oral fixations, she’ll NEVER obtain the top status unless it’s in bed.

Bruno is absolutely hilarious AND terrifying. Terrifying because his performances expose just how racist and homophobic America (and the world, for that matter) really is. People who squirm and hate it are unable to extract the fact that: 1) They prefer not to have homo/race issues raised and 2) Exploitive humor like this (i.e. Lenny Bruce) takes decades for people to understand. Sacha, dear, you’re simply ahead of your time.
Uhh anyone who says Bruno is “homophobic” clearly completely missed the point of the movie. Like Borat, it’s a social commentary on the ignorance, intolerance and hypocrisy in American culture. Cohen achieves this by creating these completely over-the-top stereotypical characters to show the audience just how ridiculous those stereotypes are.
Borat is just a much better character. I bet Bruno won’t pass the $100 mil domestic mark.

I think it comes down to the movie being more of a social satire, and those films rarely work in the general public. I wondered about the film only playing in 2700 theaters and I never even fathomed that it could be that areas in the middle America didn’t want the film there. The fact that you had to drive to Salt Lake to see it kind of surprises me. Full disclosure: I am a New York liberal (not that liberal, but on social issues I tend to be), but I don’t want to say that it was 100% homophobia that kept it from underperforming. I think it may be a little bit of the shock (not disgusting shock, the something different shock) of Borat wasn’t there since we saw Borat. Also, Bruno is my least favorite Cohen character. It’s easy to laugh and miss the point of what Cohen was trying to do with Borat. Bruno, not so much. And I wonder what the numbers are for each individual section of the country.
Also, I think Cohen’s got a great career ahead of him. In all the movies he’s done, he’s disappeared into each character, almost like a comedic Gary Oldman. He’s got the potential of being one of our greatest character actors. This style of movie is over for him, but I can’t wait to see what he does next. He was terrific in Sweeny Todd as well as Talledega Nights. You haven’t seen the last of him.
Also, Hayden didn’t sleep her way to the top. She’s been performing since she was 11 months. She was in Remember the Titans, had a voice in A Bug’s Life, and also had a role in Ice Princess. I’m going to assume if she had to use the “casting couch” for those films, well, that would be illegal.

Wow! Calling a Sacha a no-talent hack. Pretty harsh. He is a genius in my eyes. I’ve been following him for years now. I knew about Ali G long before he made his debut on HBO. I haven’t had the opportunity to see Bruno yet, but I expect it to be something most Americans just don’t get. It’s sad really that most people today can’t see the true purpose of these characters.
Get over yourselves! The movie is hilarious. But some of the jokes even went over the heads of those in West L.A. The joke about Tom Cruise, John Travolta, and Kevin Spacey being straight didn’t get a single laugh in the theatre I was in!

Those that complain about it just can’t see the point of the movie, and the gay people that also complain, well, the movie isn’t making any damages to their issues, the fact that they can concentrate enough to rally up and stop thinking about another man’s southern regions is their real problem.
The drop in day to day box office grosses only confirms that Bruno is doing exactly what Sacha meant to do.

Huge fan of SBC since Ali G in 2001. This movie was trash. You could have heard crickets in the theater.There was none of the nuance in the humor that we saw before. I think this movie will ruin him, and to that I say “well deserved”.
