It’s a real horse race, box office fans! After trailing Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs on Wednesday, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen nosed past the CG animated film on Thursday, grossing an estimated $11.5 million for the day to reclaim the top spot against Ice Age 3’s $11.1 million, according to figures from Box Office Mojo. But the kiddie film still leads the Michael Bay juggernaut in the overall gross for the ongoing five-day July 4 weekend, with Manny the Woolly Mammoth banking $24.9 million to Optimus Prime’s $22.5 million. The Johnny Depp gangster drama Public Enemies, meanwhile, took in another $6.7 million for third place, bringing its two-day total to $14.8 million. While I didn’t hate Public Enemies, I definitely was disapointed. I don’t understand why everyone on here is saying it’s so great!? Did the studio really put this many moles on EW just to boost box office? Cause the general consensus from the sold-out show I saw was ‘Meh’. I’m all for a good, adult-oriented drama when it’s done well… But, sadly, this isn’t.

I hope that Ice Age doesn’t completely erase UP from the radar. It has done so remarkably well so far and it deserves to do even better, especially since Ice Age isn’t even half the movie UP is.
i would love to see Public Enemies score number 1 but society never appreciates the intelligent movie; no instead we give transformers money. Since Public Enemies has no hope, I’m rooting for the lesser of two evils: Ice Age!

With all the bad word of mouth there was no way that Transformers was going to maintain it’s hold on the box office, especially now that the children who saw it last week have moved on to the other kiddie movies in the pipeline. G-rated movies always do well but with Up and Ice Age there is a lot of kiddie fare competing with Transformers. Transformers cost 500 mil. to make but it should earn back it’s cost overseas and make a decent profit on DVD and a much bigger profit on video games. With the bad word of mouth Transformers 2 could easily have been another Speed Racer debacle.

I too was underwhelmed by Public Enemies, but I’d rather see that and Ice Age do well than Transformers.
