The final telecast of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on May 29 attracted the host’s biggest audience on a Friday since he took over the gig from Johnny Carson 17 years ago. Leno’s final show not only generated the show’s best performance among adults 18-49 in 12 years, but it lured 11.9 million viewers. Overall, it was Leno’s seventh most-watched telecast ever, behind such memorable shows like that one that followed the Cheers finale in 1993 (22.4 million) and his May 1992 debut (16.1 million).
Leno’s off the air until Sept. 17, when he’ll return in the 10 o’clock hour to launch The Jay Leno Show five nights a week.

I never liked Carson…. *ever*. He seemed like an old bastard putting on an act. I could say it’s because I’m 33 & would have been just 16 when he retired (I watched his last gushy last show). But Conan, who’s several years older than me, said HE watched as a kid. Perhaps different strokes for different folks. I always preferred Jay to Dave at 11:30, but enjoyed Dave at 12:30 back on NBC. I watched Conan at 12:30 quite a bit but never found it “appointment viewing”. Same thing w/ Jay. But I’ll miss settling in to watch The Tonight Show w/ Jay, like a comfortable old robe. In another way, it’s kind of nice to catch the antics of Conan at a much more convenient time. Maybe this Jay at 10, Conan at 11:30 will work out after all! Now if they could only do something about idiot Jimmy (Fallon)!!!
I thought the final show was a bit boring.
I always thought Leno was dumbing down America. Will not miss him and I hope he does destroy NBC. This 10p thing is a joke. When did networks decie it’s okay to throw in the towel and not even try? Look forward to Leno failing at 10p, being of no interest to other networks, and the NBC powers that be fire the idiots who came up wit this Leno at 10p idea. Then maybe their network will actually succeed.
Jays A Hack he never realized the break he got and when you retire you stop working as in spend more time in your Garage or at Charity events
