Ratings: 'American Idol' results show tops its performance program for weekly win

Categories: TV Biz, TV Ratings

Fox’s American Idol won last week’s ratings race, as usual, but for the first time in five weeks, the Wednesday night results hour (23.6 million viewers) — which saw rocker chick Allison Iraheta sent home — bested Tuesday’s performance episode (23.4 million). Why? Simple: Now that we’re nearing the end of this year’s Idol contest, results shows are more important and gripping.

As for the rest of the week’s top five, ABC’s Dancing With the Stars rolled in at No. 3 with 20.3 million viewers, and the spin-off episode of NCIS and a new hour of frosh hit The Mentalist tied at No. 4 with 16.7 million viewers apiece.

Also of note in the Top 20, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy showed up at No. 6 with 15.5 million viewers and, surprisingly, it bested No. 7 CSI (14.9 million viewers) for the first time in 16 head-to-head face-offs this season. ABC’s once-dominant Desperate Housewives clocked in at a whimpering No. 13 with 12.3 million viewers — the nighttime soap’s lowest-rated episode of the season. And ABC’s special Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist drew 10.2 million viewers at No. 20. You can find the full Top 20 after the jump.

Ratings are down across the board, especially for American Idol, CSI, and Grey’s Anatomy. It’s definitely time for a fresh string of hits to replace these aid these aging series.

Well here’s what I think.I am 62 years old. I voted for Danny Gorky 4 to 1 over Chris Allen. I didn’t vote for Adam Lambert at all.I think the voting is not quite right.I also don’t like other singers coming on an voting with their capes(Perry)Will I watch the finals? No, Adam Lambert will win, only problem he has less natural talent, Danny had that.Adam has grown up in a theatrical world singin, dancin and etc.Trained talent, if I want to see that I can watch seals eating fish and playing horns and squealing for fish.Disappointed totally,I won’t watch next season.I guess talent doesn’t matter just a lot of eye make-up and flashy cloths. Peace, Don

Well you’ve done it America and the judges! You blew it! I guess talent and good voices don’t cut it anymore in this world. Danny getting cut tonight was a crime! He has the most original, raw talent of the three that were left. Kris has nothing to offer! I can’t even understand what he saying half the time…it appears to me that Adam and Kris are the favoured ones…both nice guys, but hey….Adam is already a professional and can sing anything, although he prefers ROCK (doesn’t appeal to my age bracket!) and Kris mumbles and has no musicality…he is obviously the one that the record producers figure will make it (yeh, Randy)!!!! You guys blew it! I’m getting more frustrated with this show every year. While I’m at it…..Randy…STOP booing Simon!!!! You sound like an immature idiot. Cara….quit hogging the spotlight! You talk too much! Simon…get her off the judges panel…..PLEASE? Well, I guess it’s Adam to win…better not be Kris! Sorry Kris!

Why would AI allow Katie Perry to endorse a contestant by having his name of her cape ? This could sway the
audience as an endorsement and should not be allowed.

  • marge mac

I think it was awful that Kate Perry came out with her cape. She should have put it over her head. Really immature and stupid. I don’t like her at all.

  • Terri

I want Danny Gorky to win he has
a beautiful spirit. Danny lose his
wife, joy should come in the morning
    THE WINNER OF AMERICAN IDOL.

What happened after Adam went to the bottom three turns my stomach. Judges finding flaws with everyone but Adam. Then Simon going overboard to make sure that all the freak jobs in the world voted by saying to remember that it was not a given that Adam would make the final. Kris and Danny had great performances and Adam’s was so-so. Hence Simon goes over board to save his fair haired boy! GAG! American Idol lost a HUGE fan base last night. I will not even watch the finale next week. Our community is on an Idol strike! Adam is NOT main stream America and certainly is NOT an Idol I want for my kids!! Sickened by the process!!!

  • Laura

I don’t understand why anyone would say Adam could not be an American Idol. He has worked his tail off to be where he is today. Why can’t kids look up to him….because he is theatrical like KISS, Alice Cooper, David Bowie and many more entertainers? Some of you are so closed minded. I am GLAD my parents let me choose what entertainment I liked. Go Adam!!

  • madA

Big deal Katy Perry had her favorite idol on her jacket! We all have our favorite! Chill out!

  • EAC

Well, guess I’m a freak job although you wouldn’t know it if you met me in person. Kris and Adam both can sing, there is no denying it. But Adam has stage presence. I love to watch him perform; Kris, not so much. Never thought that would make me a freak. Hmmm, things you learn reading people’s opinions on the internet.
