The much-discussed Wall Street sequel is getting closer to launch, EW has learned. Michael Douglas will return as corporate raider Gordon Gekko, the role for which he won the 1987 Best Actor Oscar, and Oliver Stone will be back as the director of the followup to the movie that put the phrase “Greed is good” into the popular lexicon. Shia LaBeouf is in talks to play a young trader in Wall Street 2, which is set 20 years after the first installment. The film’s plot will revolve around Gekko’s life after he gets out of jail during the current economic climate. “I think it’s time to take another hard look at trading and the economy and what went wrong in the last few years,” said Douglas Monday night during the premiere of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. “Everybody’s talking about the economy and people are scrutinizing it. Whenever I mention Wall Street 2, everybody goes, ‘Yeah. Interesting. I’d see that.’” Edward R. Pressman is producing the film, whose latest screenplay draft was written by Allan Loeb (21). Terrible idea, especially if they officially call it Wall Street 2. Even if they did some colon title (i.e. Wall Street: Back to the Street), this would still be a terrible idea.
I immediately emailed a friend of mine that worships Wall Street. He responded that the above knowledge… uhhh…. “made all his blood flow south”, LOL
And Shia LaBeouf destroys yet another ’80s flick. Bravo!

At first this really scared me. But then I saw that both Oliver Stone and Michael Douglas were both back. They’re getting the band back together. I love it!

A few things- First off Stone needs to make a completely different film than he did the first time around as there’s so much to tell. If he focuses it on Gekko he’s making a mistake. Subprime loans, the corrupt coverage of CNBC and evil CEO’s should be the heart of the story. Not Gekko manipuating corporations for his greed. The story needs to be bigger than one guy.

Well, Shia’s hair is always slicked now so he’ll fit right in this environment. Be kind of interesting to see if Gecko comes back into the fold without any remorse. Now thats an interesting film.
It is absolutely the perfect time to revisit that character. My question is, which side of the success wall will Gekko be on after prison? Will he be a displaced executive, or Bernie Maddoff?

I am so psyched they’re getting a good actor like Shia Labeouf for this one. I hate sequels that star actors EXTREMELY less talented than the original cast. My little sister took me to see HSM 3 and told me they’re going to make a fourth with the new class…urgh! I’m surprised some people don’t like him though. He seems so personable and talented.

I love(most)sequels, like Jaws 2, and X-Files 2. Wish they would make another ‘Body Heat’ sequel.
Please do not make this just a wall st. bashing film. Continue the good story line. Don’t make it like that HORRIBLE ‘W’ film where it has NO story line and it’s just a bash fest. And please don’t let Shia play Bud, do all that you can to get Charlie back on!!

Why do people have this pathological need to “Sequel” things that NEED no sequel? It’s the lazy way out: “hey this made big bucks, let’s recycle it!”
And with the exception of Godfather II there are precious few sequels that were worthy of bothering with.

I Hope the the SEC did not create a regulational rule during this period the above action was commited to absolve them from liability of cmkx “counterfeit shares.” from this compnay or anyother company that used this tactic to steal from all markets. This naked shorting fraud rule be passed without a second to lose.
The SEC, just two years ago,denied that Naked Short Selling ever existed. The dismal state of economy is a direct result of the ramifications on NSS. Robert Mahue was brought in by a small diamond exploration company named CMKX to expose this illegal activity.
CMKX WENT THROUGH THE LARGEST NAKED SHORT IN THE HOSTORY OF THE U.S. Nearly 7 TRILLION Naked Short Shares were sold. Robert Mahue squeezed the Brokers to come up with Billions of dollars to cover these illegal sales. I am a stock holder in CMKX. The SEC is aware of a huge trust that Mr.Mahue set up to compensate CMKX share holders because of NSS. The SEC and or the government are holding up the distribution of these funds. The money is sitting, waiting to be sent out to damaged share holders. The SEC has the ability to release these funds………….but are not doing so.
