With Watchmen’s Jackie Earle Haley ready to slip on Freddy Krueger’s gruesome glove in the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the rest of the cast — i.e., the victims of Freddy’s dream-seizing killing spree — is beginning to fall into place. EW has learned that Kellan Lutz, who played Emmett Cullen in Twilight and also has a recurring role on The CW’s 90210, is in final negotiations to join the cast as Dean, a well-liked, well-off high school jock. Actress Rooney Mara (Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, this fall’s Youth in Revolt) is also in final talks to join the cast as the film’s heroine, Nancy. Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Kyle Gallner (The Haunting in Connecticut) have also signed on for the film, to be helmed by music-video director Samuel Bayer. The movie is scheduled for release on April 16, 2010.

Why god why??? Why does Hollywood continually have to remake classics??? Weren’t the bazillion horrible Nighmare on Elm Street sequals enough but now you have to ruin the only good movie in the bunch?!!! Just dig a grave because the creativity behind Hollywood is obviously dead

I am actually kind of excited to see how this turns out…I love the original, and I mostly trust the actors involved in it so I’m kind of intrested to see how it all pans out
$58,800,000 in budgets for all of the movies combined earning the franchise 3 hundred and something million as a whole probably has something to do with it a remake being made in this case. Is it creative? No. Is it money making/profitable…well isn’t that what studios are looking for? You don’t have to like it but do the math.
I’m not all that big on Hollywood remaking classic, but the cast so far makes things seem a bit better. I love Kellan, he is so awesome and adorable! Kyle Gallner is an amazing actor with a talent that should be used as much as possible (and he is gorgeous!) Rooney Mara is wonderful too, and beautiful. And since they can’t get the original actor back, James Earle Haley is the perfect pick to play Freddie. So this idea is looking better than it was when they first anounced it. I just hope the screenplay isn’t totally cheesy!

EW is reporting the casting of an actor who happens to be in Twilight. The movie is barely mentioned. Get over your Twilight hate already and enjoy the news.
i think the casting of freddy is brilliant but like most michael bay productions, this one will probably blow hard. they should get a heather langenkamp (the original nancy) cameo. maybe even get her to play the mom this time around.
You had me… riiiiiight up until “to be helmed by music-video director Samuel Bayer.” WHY? WHY? WHY do they keep giving horror movies to bad music video directors and novices? Directing a horror movie is harder than some jump-cuts and loud static to make the audience jump. It needs to be SCARY. Booooooooo!
You can’t touch the original Nightmare. I saw it when it first came out and to this day..it still scares the crap out of me.
If it doesn’t star Robert Englund, this ‘remake’ can get STUFFED! Why this modern urge to trash classics by ‘remakes’? Some classics should definitely be left well alone. Out of RESPECT, if nothing else. The makers of this movie can go to effen hell.
