Angelina Jolie has signed on to portray crime novelist Patricia Cornwell’s heroine Dr. Kay Scarpetta in a forthcoming movie from Twentieth Century Fox and its Fox 2000 division. The screenplay will be based on Cornwell’s bestselling Scarpetta series of books, about the beautiful, hard-charging medical examiner who solves crimes, but it will not be focused on any one specific novel. The project has yet to hire a screenwriter or a director. Mark Gordon and Geyer Kosinski will produce.

I guess that Pat Cornwell wasn’t able to maintain creative control over her creation, thus the sad and unfortunate casting choice. What a waste of some awesome material.

I thought she was going to take a break for a year to raise her kids. They are turning into a side show at the the circus. I feel sorry for all those kids. There life is a living nightmare. Parents so selfish and fighing all the time. They should focus on whats really important. The Kids. Angelina stay home and stop putting your face in ours, we really cant stand the sight of you. Angie and Brad are a side show only because of the intense media attention. And maybe she is taking a break for a year to raise her kids. If you read the article, it said there was no director or screenplay yet. And why would A&B’s kids’ life be a “living nightmare”? And how do you get “selfish and fighting all the time”? Based on what? Your vivid “imagination” (I doubt you have one –or a brain). How do you know that A&B don’t focus on their kids? And if you haven’t seen any of her movies, how can you say she is putting her face in yours? (Like that would ever happen.) I’d really like to know how you, in your brilliance and clairvoyance, know that Angie is selfish? She might be, but at least she’s not stupid, like you.

I love Angelina Jolie. I think she is beautiful and a very good actress.
However, she is not right for Kay Scarpetta. It does make one wonder if the producers for the movie have ever read the books. Kay Scarpetta is a 40 something Italian/Florida blonde. She is very take charge and almost comes across as hard to those who don’t know her. There is much speculation that she is a lesbian because of her manners. Lily Rush from Cold Case has always seemed like a little mini-Scarpetta to me. When the books came out I always hoped they would make them into a movie with Marietta Hartley. She would have been perfect.
I don’t know why they can never get it right…just like Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross. Alex Cross is a very good looking youngish hunk (early 40’s) of man…Morgan Freeman is very nice and a great actor…but he is not eye candy!!
Sandra Bullock could do Kay Scarpetta.
If she played it more like her Murder By Numbers role. If Glenn Close wasn’t quite so not young.

Wrong choice- I really enjoyed this series of books and Angeline Jolie is not who I pictured in my head when I visualized Kay Scarpetta.

I read Patricia Cornwell’s first novel Post Mortem three times and have read every Kay Scarpetta book. I never once pictured Angelina Jolie in the role. I did see a young Susan Sarandon. The role is not a shootem-up character but someone much more intellectual – not something Jolie is used to portraying. I am not sure how she will do but I am a little disappointed.
So I guess that whole “I’m taking a year off to spend time with my 6 children” was a big fat lie… does she have to be in EVERYTHING? Sheesh.
I love Jolie, but not as Scarpetta. When I read those books, I actually pictured someone who resembled Patricia Cornwell. Not sure who that would be though.
I love the Kay Scarpetta series of books. I really don’t know if Angelina Jolie would be good in this or not. I hope that it turns out good. I will go see it and decide on it once I see the final product. Usually reading the books is much better, and the movie is never quite as good. Since they aren’t doing a specific book then it might be as good – hopefully.
