'Breaking Dawn': Not so fast

Categories: Movie Biz

They haven’t even released a second movie yet, but already there’s talk of a fourth. TheWrap.com reported earlier today that Summit Entertainment was deep in the planning stages for Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s hugely successful Twilight series. But not so fast, says Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who is still working on her script for Eclipse, the third in the teen vamp franchise (the second, New Moon, is currently shooting in Vancouver). “The most I’ve heard from Summit is ‘re-read it and start thinking about it,’” says Rosenberg, who is completing her show-running duties on the fourth season of the Showtime series Dexter. More telling, she hasn’t yet received one of the manifestos Meyer famously puts together before Rosenberg begins turning one of her books into a movie. Another source is also skeptical that Summit is far along in developing a fourth film. “As far as I know, Stephenie was still having meetings asking, ‘Can we really make this into a movie?’” The fourth book’s racy sex and explicit birth scenes make it less pre-teen friendly then the three earlier, more chaste romance novels. Summit, for its part, has no comment on the current status of Breaking Dawn.

It would be ridiculous for them to not make the final movie. How would they end Eclipse if they didn’t make the movie? I know Breaking Dawn doesn’t lend itself to the screen as well as the other three but it is possible.

You have to make the fourth. You can’t make 3 out of the 4. Plus Breaking Dawn is the key book in the whole series. What they need to do is get rid of Melissa Rosenberg and everything will go smoothly

What racy sex? It’s not even described in the book, and it’s not like we’re not all used to sex scenes in movies. They can can just skip to the morning after like the book did, for all I care. They don’t need to show the gory parts of the birth, either. Bella was out of it, so they could just make the scene fuzzy and out of focus like the action in the ballet studio that Bella was not fully aware of. I think the biggest challenge would be turning that huge book into one movie and the special effects it requires. If need be, they can just make it an R-rated film.

YOU HAVE TO DO THE FOURTH!! How stupid to think that you shouldn’t.

The will make BD, Stephenie already signed over the rights (you can go to her website and see for yourself) I think they should pull two parter with this book and split it into two movies. Ending the first one with Bella’s heart beating after the birth this way the second part could deal with her being a new born vampire and the Volturi. Also I really don’t see what the big deal is about it being more grown up, give it a higher rating then.

Breaking Dawn has the possibility to be one of the most graphic horror movies ever, what with all the vomiting blood and sex. Too bad the studio is all about the tweens, and of course we dare not violate the childrens minds with a simple fact: after 3 movies of them not doing it, they actually do do it this time. And what results is tons of blood and gore.

Obviously they have to make Breaking Dawn. How stupid to make the first 3 and then not the final one. They can do it and not risk offending anyone with the sex and violence – Steph did it in her book. Come on Hollywood – isn’t this what you do?

Racy sex? Really? I mean, yeah, that birth scene gave Saw a run for its money in the gore factor. But the sex was about as racy as the sex on Leave It To Beaver.

are you kidding me? graphic horror movies?
    1. there isnt actually any sex in the book. None of the sex is actually described there is the before and after, something they could just carry through to the movie.
    2. sure that birth scene can be intense but i finished reading breaking dawn again yesterday and the worst parts will be when Bella vomits the blood and when Rosalie sticks the knife into her stomach
they can make this movie easily without turning it into a horror/sex romp

YES, racy sex… is everyone forgetting about the scene in the cottage?
The “we’ll never get tired or need to take a break” / “our laughter made our bodies move in a way that made us forget what we were talking about” scene in the cottage?! HELLO.

Although it’s true that “Breaking Dawn” does contain much more mature scenes, skillful writing can make it less graphic. Really though, the Harry Potter series became much more violent and dark- while continuing to be “kiddie”. The young fans who started reading “Twilight” will have matured as the time passes to make the movie. Also, if there is a time that “Breaking Dawn” will be filmed,it will be at least a year and a half from now before it’s filmed. Then there is post-production, marketing, etc. Plenty of time for things to get sorted. I do wonder thought whether or not “BD” will be made into two separate films…Won’t it be fun to “stay tuned”? Also, if there’s not script yet, everything said about it is pure speculation. Ah, isn’t it fun!

It would be totally nuts not to make BD. Yes it’s more mature, but by the time it’s released so will the main audience! Plus there’s not really graphic sex, there’s the before and after but not really the sex part. The violence factor would be an issue though, but it could be toned down a bit to make it acceptable. The part that worries me though, is Renessme. She is so developed so young and grows so rapidly, I don’t think they could use a real kid. They would have to use CGI and I don’t think they’ve advanced it to the point of having a believable full on CGI person. But who knows, they come up with new things everyday!

BD ABSOLUTELY needs to get made into a film. It has SOOO many AMAZING Edward/Bella moments!

I was wondering when there was even going to be talk of making BD. I cant wait! everyone is dying to see how they will put it into a movie, the special effects are just that, special! I want to see the wedding and that dress! I want to see Reneesme, I want to see the house filled with other vampires, I want, I want , I want more EDWARD!
