'Jon & Kate Plus 8' star attracts hundreds of fans to California book signing

Categories: Books, Television

Jonkatebooksigning_l Hundreds of Jon and Kate Plus 8 fans converged on a three-story Barnes and Noble store in Glendale, Calif., Tuesday to meet series star Kate Gosselin, who is crisscrossing the country to promote her second book, Eight Little Faces: A Mom’s Journey. The bookstore, about eight miles outside of Los Angeles, was the first stop in Gosselin’s multi-city tour (she’ll be in Huntington Beach, Fresno, and San Francisco later this week), and close to 400 people waited for hours to get a brief audience with TLC’s famous mother of eight.

Many women were so determined to get a photo with Gosselin that a book with her signature seemed of little importance to them. But the occasional fan did manage to use her oh-so-brief time in Gosselin’s presence to shower effusive praise. “I make my boyfriend miss Heroes so I can watch your show!” exclaimed one rabid fan. “You’re so beautiful!” said another. “You are like Hollywood!” The tall and slender Gosselin, who was wearing white pants, a leopard-spotted blouse, and three-inch cork heels, just smiled and said “thank you.” She always made sure, however, to say something special about any baby who came her way. “Just drop her off with me!” she said of a three-week-old baby named Morgan. “I’ll give her back at night.”

Many fans even brought presents, ranging from a tome titled The Book for People Who Do Too Much to eight personalized gift bags for Gosselin’s children (pictured). Everything Gosselin received — including plenty of heartfelt notes — was carefully set aside for her (and her small staff) to review later. Remarkably, no one seemed to inquire about Gosselin’s husband, Jon, during the 90-minute book signing, though one fan did ask where her “little ones” were. “Back at home,” replied Gosselin, who is touring alone.
