The difference between Law&Order:SVU and O&R is, as some have already pointed out, is that Law and Order shows the rapes as crimes, whereas O&R shows it as funny. There is quite a big difference.

Way to go Seth Rogan. You not only are maintaining a Rape Culture by minimizing rape with humor, but you made a sad attempt at making a very real rape scene “ok” by making the female character slobber a “keep going..” So that means she isn’t being raped?! Not funny. You didn’t even consider the fact that 1 in 4 women will experiance sexual assault in their lifetimes! So you basically terrorized 1 in 4 women who watched this film by including a horrible rape scene, and then minimizing it with humor. What an idiot.

Perhaps the biggest issue here is that we live in a culture where too many people (witness the comments in this forum as evidence) do not understand that rape is WRONG, consent is saying “YES” when you’re sober and uncoerced, and anything otherwise is criminal. You can play ANYTHING for laughs once the culture understands that the real thing isn’t funny, it’s criminal. Until this culture gets that, it’s not funny because it reinforces a cultural belief that leads to people being raped. That said, movies have the ability to do this with anything for a person who is warped and thinks, for instance, that shooting up a classroom full of teenagers is ok or praise-worthy.

I just saw “Observe and Report”. I can understand the division of opinion on this film. I’ve been watching movies for over 50 years and I always try to do the same thing; I try to find enjoyment and entertainment in what I am watching. That was not difficult in this film. I thought it was not just good, but brilliant! I won’t take the time to explain my rationale, because as the old saying goes, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”. So, for those of you that are unable to appreciate all this film has to offer, I offer my sympathies. Go see Paul Blart, Mall Cop for some fall down, fart jokes.
