'Wolverine' leak: Fox issues a statement vowing to prosecute

Categories: Movie Biz

Statement from 20th Century Fox regarding the online leak of X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

Last night, a stolen, incomplete and early version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was posted illegally on websites. It was without many effects and had missing scenes and temporary sound and music. We immediately contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed. We forensically mark our content so we can identify sources that make it available or download it. The source of the initial leak and any subsequent postings will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law — the courts have handed down significant criminal sentences for such acts. The FBI and MPAA are also actively investigating the crime. We are encouraged by the support of fansites condemning piracy and this illegal posting and pointing out that such theft undermines the enormous efforts of the filmmakers and actors and, above all, hurts fans of the film.

A real bonehead move by the person who did this. In the end, was it really worth it?

  • Rob

Who can’t wait one month for the movie? This is a movie to see in the big screen and enjoy the experience.

  • Hugh

it was AWFUL. (from what I heard:) FX and music and gonna save this stinker.

  • Bryan

Oooooops! This will cost them millions, I bet Hugh Jackman is pissed :(

  • Syberwolf

Happens all the time, what’s the big deal…still gonna make a few hundred million…

  • craig007

lol lol i bet a watchmen fan put it up

  • ANONIMO

MPAA lawyer on Twitter following anyone who mentions WOLVERINE on their Tweets – LOL!

  • FoxStinks

I’m happy someone did this. I hope it really hurts Fox. They are a soulless company that makes crap and sells it to the masses. I couldn’t care less about them or the employees they hire. ’nuff said!

  • grant

    hahahaha….FOX and Rothman can suck a bag-o-dicks….hahahahha

  • Liz

This movie’s effects even in the completed trailer looked awful. I am not really looking forward to this movie anyway.

  • Phillip

I downloaded this work print and yeah I would wait for the movie, its good but the special effects are NEEDED or it is crap….maybe.

  • Ad

Well Fox, just consider this revenge for your corporation cancelling Firefly!

  • Chev

“We forensically mark our content so we can identify sources that make it available or download it.” ??? that doesn’t even make sense. also there was another exec comment warning about an “april fool’s virus” embedded in the thing or some other nonsense.
why can’t they just be honest and say “look guys, the money we make off this goes into the next one, so do the right thing and go watch it on the big screen”.
why? because bluster and threats are the only language they know. they probably should’ve realised that they do not work anymore, but i guess not. 25 years from now, when its too late, theyll fuigure it out.
    (p.s. crap movie)

  • Nathan

Oh well, this movie looks stupid anyway.

  • Felix H. Cat

You know in the end this is not going to hurt the movie… people STILL want to see a finished movie with all the wiz-bang-pops and the effects/music/sfx/CC/etc. Getting all up in arms about it is silly.
btw… SCORE ONE TORRENT COMMUNITY!! woot!

  • Luk3

Boo-Hoo… Poor Liberal Hollywood had an “incomplete” film leaked that will still rake in over $100 million.
    Go cry us a river.

  • No

HAHAHAHAHA! Boohoo. Cry a little more, babies!

  • Arty

I am honestly indifferent about Wolverine the movie, but it should still be fun.
I am a student at Boston U, taking an advertising class. We have to create an ad campaign for Sharpie markers. If you could take 5 minutes filling out this survey for consumer purchase, that would be AWESOME!

MPAA should not cry about losing millions of dollar becase the film got leaked ! They have been crying like this for long..Iron Man made millions inspite of leaks much earlier to the release..Dark Knight raked in a billion after being the most downloaded file in the history of movies..I can go on and on..All coz these were great films.
If you produce crap, people will never go to theatre or buy dvd’s..If you make a good movie you will rake in millions no matter even if its leaked a year earlier.Period.

  • Adamantium

thats what you get for cancelling Married with Children! you bastards! I saw it, cant wait for the final

  • Moviegoer5

I am happy to see that Fox is going after the LOSER who leaked this. He/She should be strung up by their toes and beaten. The movie looks incredible. OK,OK – it needs editing – but the film is incomplete – Once the High Res is implemented, edits done, should be another hit from FOX!

  • lol torrent fanatic

Yeah, that workprint sucks, there’s a screener out now. XD

  • ozz.zzo

hahahaha….This movie’s was good i seen it Last night hahahaha

  • Alyssa

I dont know where everyone gets this hatred of Fox movies from, but I have to agree it was a bone-headed move. And I would prosecute too. Good for Fox.

  • pirate

“We immediately contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed.”
What? That’s a lie. I’m seeding this in my bittorrent client right now. As I type there’s almost 17,000 people also seeding it who are just giving it away and over 50,000 people are peers, who are in the process of downloading it. And that’s just this one swarm — there are lots of torrents up right now with this leak. Come on Fox, you don’t have to lie in your press releases.

  • Dolph

This will probably all blow over by the end of the week. The movie will be great, Gambit will impress, and nobody will remember this day.

  • jt

Great movie! even though there seems to be a few special effects missing its a great movie that im going to watch in the theatre, it WILL still make hundreds of millions, i suggest fox dont go after the fans watchin the movie early, and embrace the huge early preview this film is getting, it will still make millions, getting a huge early hype now

  • Eric

Watched it…still going to pay money to see it in the theatre along with all of my friends who are also going to pay money to see it. However..if the outcome of Deadpool doesnt change I will be extremely pissed!!!!

  • Jin Saotome

Sorry but Fox had this coming. When you make crap, people will treat it like crap. Their ‘artistic visions’ murdered the plot and characters…one in particular. Any hope for Deadpool showing up on the big screen has been dashed all to hell..probably including any hopes for a spin-off movie about our favorite merc-with-a-mouth. Fox, if you’re listening…I hope the recession gets you. It’s time to clean out the old, tired movie studios with the same old and tired directors that have absolutely no idea what they’re doing when it comes to fans of a series. It’s true, your worst fears? That Deadpool gets eyebeam/teleporting/arm-blades, turning him into a crappy version of Mortal Kombat’s Baraka? It’s all true. Thanks Fox. Because you thought the character needed to be deadlier and the kabooms be more spectacular for a finish, you have successfully destroyed one of Marvel’s legendary comic characters onscreen. May your punishment hit you in your collective wallets and hit you HARD

  • meso soup

I’ll be seeing this in the theatre.
    Screw Downloading.
