Ratings: 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' adds viewers on Sunday

Categories: TV Ratings

ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition got a ratings boost on Sunday with a two-hour episode, while Desperate Housewives sat the hour out, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates. (Usually a viewer magnet, Desperate Housewives showed up only in a rerun an hour later than usual, at 10 p.m.) Makeover averaged 10.8 million viewers, a million more than last week. The absence of Housewives and lead-out Brothers & Sisters also helped NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, which ticked up 16 percent to 8.5 million. NCAA basketball, however, helped CBS win the night (though its overrun into primetime means the net’s times and viewership numbers are approximate); with March Madness leading off the traditionally strong Sunday schedule, the network averaged 12.1 million viewers on Sunday. The Eye dominated Friday (with 10.3 million) and Saturday (8.6 million), too, thanks to hoops, hoops, and more hoops.

Kings is a great show, it deserves much higher than 4.4. I wish they would try it out in another time slot before they cancel it.

CBS is thinking of cancelling Cold Case, yet it won its timeslot and was the second highest rated show of the night…hmmmm.

It really amazes me that NBC will give up on Scrubs, which could average over 4 million viewers every week.
Yet a network like the CW is at the top of its game when it has 4 million??
    I don’t get it.

And I wish CBS would STOP messing around with “The Amazing Race” – it rarely starts on time due to sports games running over and bumping up everything. Either that or they pre-empt it for unnecessary (and BORING) awards shows. TAR has won an Emmy for Best Reality Show ever since the category was invented, yet CBS still treats like a red-headed stepchild!

I am amazed that The Unit is never mentioned although it consistently has 9 – 9.2 million viewers each week (when not preempted). It always trounces Celebrity Apprentice, but for some strange reason Celebrity’s Apprentice‘s 8.5 million viewers is mentioned.
