I did not read the books. My wife just happened to put the movie on NetFlix and we watched it. I was very surprised. We both enjoyed it. After wathcing, we bought the books. My wife skipped the first book and I read it and am now on the second. What a great story about love. Please pay no attention to those with bad attitudes on here. They are just trying to rile everyone else.

The commentary on the DVD is hilarious. Still just a rental for me, not worth a purchase, but it’s funny stuff. Also – why does every Twilight article get this comment: “It’s not just for teens!”. TwiMoms (or however they refer to themselves) make that quite clear. It’s kind of funny to me that women over 30 don’t have better things to do with their time, creativity, or imagination than actually run around and “help sell” Stephenie Meyer’s books. Do people have jobs? Obsessed “twimoms” prove how lonely some women really are. Bad news ladies: Edward is fictional and, even if he were real, he’s 17. He wouldn’t be into you.

No, the Twilight series is not just for teens! The success of the Twilight Moms on line is a testament to that! I’m 50 years old and adore the Twilight series. The books (and now the movies) are unique. It’s sexy without being dirty. I appointed myself Stephenie Meyer’s publicist here in my area, loaning out the books to about fifty (or more!) people. Everyone from my friends and family to to my doctor, my dentist, people in line at Wal Mart… to my dog groomer! All ages! Men and women! All walks of life! The youngest was 9, the oldest 80! EVERYONE loved it! Only one person, a Stephen King fan, age 40, said it was “too young” for her. But everyone else was just as enthralled as me! I even had one neighbor (a nurse, age 32) ring my doorbell at midnight because she’d just finished Eclipse and couldn’t wait to start Breaking Dawn! All I have to say is Stephenie Meyer, keep writing!!

For those of you who think this book series or the movie are only adored by teenagers–do some homework yourself. I can name about 30 people off the top of my head all over the age of 25 who loved the books and movie. I suggest that all men read these books because maybe they’ll actually get a glimpse of what real love is about and learn to respect and honour the person they supposedly love. Is it a love story–absolutey but it’s about TRUE love not some kind of cheap, second rate hormonal romp in the sack then move onto the next person. All the characters truly love one another and can’t live without each other–that’s the point. The devotion, the loyalty–it’s very rare these days.

Loved the DVD. The Rob Pattison comments on the director’s commentary were really funnny and worth purchasing the DVD just for that. Pre ordered the movie when I went to buy the soundtrack. I purchased two copies, one for home use, one to auction off at a school event. The sales figure do seem right on target. If more guys were into the movie, which they won’t be, the sales would have been much higher.

I do think the screenplay needs to come up a notch. Rob & Kristen are certainly up for it! That said, Stephenies books, the movies are all going to be fantastic – they just need to up the intimacy and connection – because that’s what the books are all about – as well as the intrigue and fantasy edge which separates them from all the other bland romantic genre. Every movie will be better than the last (MAKE BREAKING DAWN PLEASE!!!! (33 weeks on NYTimes Best Seller list – now #1!!- I don’t care if Rob has gray hair by the time they make it!!!! DVD sales are surprising none of the millions of twilight fans!

Lighten up people – this is fantasy escapism. Isn’t that what entertainment is all about. Sure it isn’t great literature, but Stephanie Meyer has a killer sense of humor that comes out in the books. We all need a little laughter these days. The Twilight film and books have made a lot of people happy and some very rich. It’s a good thing – swim in it until your fingers get pruny!
