No surprises here: Teen girls lined up en masse to take Robert Pattinson home with them when the Twilight DVD went on sale Saturday, complete with midnight release parties. The romantic vampire sensation, which has grossed $380 million in theaters since its November release, sold more than 3 million copies in its first day on the shelves, studio Summit Entertainment says. That puts it in the top five best first-day DVD releases in the last two years, among the likes of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Dark Night, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers.

its the dark Knight not the dark night. >.<
do yall even have editors…
get yo facts right
Does this include all the pre-orders? I know it was doing killer business on Amazon, Borders.com, etc. for months in pre-sales.
the dark night?? really EW??
That’s knight with a K. Glad to know that your in charge at a film website! (note sarcasm):(
Sadly, if Natasha Richardson had not died this week, the cover of EW would be about the release of Twilight.
I don’t get it.
Wow for girl fanbase those are huge numbers ! Because guys won’t touch it which is sad.
I thought the movie was good but witha 37 million dollar budget it could of been better. Those are impressive numbers because the other four top movies were 125 million dollar budget films that were loved by women and men SO THESE NUMBERS ARE IMPRESSIVE !!!
Yea, it’s “The Dark Knight”, w/ a K!
I’m not surprised: a “Twilight” fan @ EW can’t spell the correct word in this scenario…
Wow Bixby. The guy correcting The Dark Knight error actually using “your” instead of the correct “you’re”.(note sarcasm)
I’m one of the Rob Pattinson crazed fans, although I’m not a teenager, I did buy 5 copies for me and my girlfriends. But we still had a sleepover at my house and watched it anyways.
@Bixby. It’s ‘you’re,’ not ‘your.’
Do the numbers include iTunes downloads. The numbers were big there too.
To 2cents:
What’s even sadder is that you’re so cynical and immature (if not offensive) to think that in the first place. Besides, Natasha Richardson isn’t even the cover story. It’s Paul Rudd. Even if EW did, a meager sized B- review isn’t much to draw teen girls to newsstands without feeling like they got ripped off.
TWILIGHT SUUUUUCKS!!!!
The books are written for pre-teens who aren’t ready for Bram Stoker or even Anne Rice. The movies are made for morons, by morons. Catherine Hardwicke is a horrible director who’s never made a decent movie and Summit is a low-budget studio that has no idea how to handle a franchise (3 movies in a year and a half!?)!! EW is even stupider for giving this piece of s#!t movie so much coverage! Grow up people spend your money on something with some artistic integrity and stop contributing to the dumbing down of western civilization!
How about matt your a moron who takes the time to get on here and taunt people. I am sure you need to grow up!
I’m not a Twilight fan, but I think it’s absolutely ridiculous and juvenile for people to make the kind of negative posts that I see on this article. Just because this franchise isn’t to someone’s taste, doesn’t make it “for morons”. Get off your high horse and spend your time reading or watching whatever it is that you like, instead of obsessing over the interests of others.
This is down to the draw of Pattinson. he’s such a lovely, funny and talented guy you could watch him all day. His piano playing is amazing. You see him make up a lullaby on the spot and I prefer it to the one they used.
Summit should be kissing Pattinson’s feet
Nicci: How about you just proved my point that people who read these books don’t even know the difference between “your” and “you’re”! Read a real book lady!
The franchise would be screwed if it wasnt for Pattinson’s draw
I take some offense to the “teen girls lines up en masse” comment. I dont know many teen girls who can afford to buy copies of Twilight from Borders, Amazon, Hot Topic and Target. Lets not forget all of the Twihard adults that are truly driving those numbers!
All this name-calling is juvenile, (Matt), and the sign of an insecure mind.
Myself, I am happy to see ANYONE pick up a book and actually enjoy reading it. I know there are many people who have recently been inspired to read well over 2,000 pages, (the 4 book ‘Twilight’ series by Stephenie Meyer) for the pure pleasure of it. If nothing else, these books have sparked the imaginations of millions of people, and possibly inspired many of these same people to open other books, and see reading as more than just another boring homework assignment.
2cents, I got my copy of EW in the mail last week before EW put Natasha on the cover, it was actually Paul Rudd, nothing about twilight.
I’m not going to complain, EW, because I love your Twilight coverage, but to comment on the teeny fan comment. I was in line at 8AM at Target with about 30 people. There were only five teenagers there. So the whole myth that teenagers are the only ones that like Twilight is just that a myth.
I’m tired of the media saying it’s just pre-teen and teen girls that are into Twilight. Believe me there are lots of adult women into it!
I really enjoyed the book Twilight, the movie not so much. The only good thing about it was Robert Pattinson. Summit needs to be thanking their lucky stars for him.
I agree that just as many women loved it, movie and book, as teens did. I’ll even go one further, and say women enjoyed the movie more because of Robert. For New Moon it will be that Taylor kid that brings in the tweens. Very smart on Summits part, a little something for everyone;)
I got mine bright and early Saturday morning! The after watching it, I began re-reading all the books. And for the record, I’m a 29 year old adult.
I am so sick and tired of you people saying that this franchise is “tweens” and “teens”. FYI there were grown women at the release party I attended. There were grown women buying the DVD. FYI, Stephanie wrote Twilight for grown women. The publisher went and categorized it under the “Teen” section. The meadow scene is based upon a dream Stephanie had. She wrote Twilight for herself at first. So stop with this “teen driven franchise” crap!! Women of all ages and YES even guys have read Twilight! You all need to READ the books to understand that the characters may be teenagers but no matter your age, you can relate to the characters. Teenagers didn’t just buy those DVDs. Their parents bought them. Also, this crap about the DVD only sold because of Rob Pattinson is rediculous. Rob cannot just be on the screen without Kristen. Both Kristen and Rob are wonderful. The Cullen Family is awesome.Peter, Ashley etc… bring so much to their characters. They all are amazing. Not just Rob you idiots.
I guess this is another excuse for EW to have its 12,748,903 cover story coverage of “Twilght”!
