'Melrose Place' exclusive: Heather Locklear won't join reboot

Categories: TV Biz

One person who won’t be moving back into Melrose Place? Heather Locklear. The actress — who played the key role of Amanda Woodward on the original series — has turned down an offer to join the cast of the CW’s update of the hit Fox serial, EW has learned. “There wasn’t a way to bring her back that made sense,” says a source close to the situation. While the network and studio won’t comment, her reps do confirm that Locklear has passed. It’s no secret that the CW was aggressively pursuing Locklear and will likely want to secure another star from the original show. The reboot, which is slated for the fall, has already cast Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Jessica Lucas, Michael Rady, and Katie Cassidy.

  • Keith Edward Armstrong – not Kieth!!!

It is a shame that Heather Locklear will not be reprising her role for the new Melrose Place! I can’t believe that the CW cast little twirp Ashlee Simpson after her notorious lip syncing fiasco on Saturday Night Live.
I think the CW should bring back Lisa Rinna on Melrose Place who has nice lips, nice boobies and a nice ass!
BTW I live in Toronto Ontario Canada – does anyone want to be my friend?

here’s an idea: how about tv doesnt go the way of movie by re-booting and re-tooling and re-imagining every possible idea ever conceived in the medium. its already enough we got copy-cats and knock-offs….i seriously think that execs are trying to make the most money out of a single thing and its pathetic. that why we’ve seen the last of originality like pushing daisies and lost, we consumers dont have the patience for serial shows. damm you, the general public.

I love Heather! It was the only reason I would have watched the reboot. Oh well, guess there’s something better in her future. We love you Heather! Hurry back!

    good no old hags needed

  • Anna

Good for her!! Not returning because it didn’t make sense. It’s true MelrosePlace ended with her & Peter married and ON THE RUN.

  • cecile

she made the right choice, she deserves better than this crappy remake, she’s a talented actress, can you imagine her give her lines to Ashlee Simpson ? seriously ? Come on, this show is already dead before it starts.

Ok Keith or Kieth. Join Facebook/My Space or just get a life.
On the topic, hope Heather comes back on a new show!

  • Puhlease

Didn’t “make sense.” Uh huh. Yeah, right. The woman looks EMBALMED. She just doesn’t want to appear on hi-def TVs. That or she’s not insurable cuz she likes to take happy pills with tequila shots and try to drive. There’s more to the story when a washed-up actress won’t get back on the gravy train.

Aww, c’mon. They can’t write something appropriate for Grandma Woodward to come back for? How come everyone was so gung ho about her return, and now poof, it’s over? I agree, something’s up. She’s turning down a sure thing, nobody’s commenting…… doesn’t smell right.

  • david

If Heather’s not returning then why did Ausiello report a couple weeks ago that she was a “lock” to reclaim her special guest star title? Please explain, the all of a sudden change of heart…

  • shanghai

Heather rocks…can’t blame her for not wanting to reprise the iconic role of Amanda Woodward. Somethings are better off a memory. Hope she comes back on the air soon in something new. I’ve always thought she was awesome and now I do more than ever!

  • lordnelsonpublicschool

She shows intelligence then. Considering the unnecessary ‘90210′ only received moderate to above-moderate pre-debut “buzz” and has lost HALF (50%) of its audience by late-January. This concept of a spin-off of CRAP is outrageous!

  • Mike

Wouldn’t the way to bring her back be to have her own the building? Well, if she’s not gonna do it then they HAVE TO get Thomas Calabro. Michael was the most fun character anyway.

  • bruno

hmmmmm…i’m thinkin it’s the other way around. my bet is the CW took one look at her new face and said….uhhhh…no…..

  • D.L.

I’m very disappointed in this decision of Locklear, because her appearence would be mine main motivation of watching the show. However I cannot blame her for turning it down, because the show has been off air for a very long time, and what can you do with a character that has been through so much already, so it makes sense for Amanda not to come on. So having said that I will still check it out, but I’m now not as anticpated about it as I was a month ago.

  • CORY

After learning that the brilliant actress, Natasha Richardson, has left the world way too soon, who really gives a damn about a sophmoric soap opera.

  • Matthew C

Seriously i suggest casting Thomas Calabro as Dr. Michael Mancini or Josie Bissett as Jane Andrews Mancini. If you can’t get them get DAPHNE ZUNIGA as Jo Reynolds. Jo could easily be moving back to L.A. and now living with her now twenty-something daughter or something? perhaps she now owns the building?

  • PGP

I still think Tiffanie Amber Theissen should bring her 90210 character of Valarie Malone over to the new Melrose Place! She could easily pick up with Amanda left off! Theissen was amazing and they can even use the new 90210 as a starting point again! If they must bring back a former Melroser…how about Thomas Colabro, Grant Show, Josie Bisset, or Alyssa Milano???

  • Kelly

“Jo could easily be moving back to L.A. and now living with her now twenty-something daughter or something?”
Jo had a son, not a daughter, and he would only be 13 or 14.

  • Eep

Melrose is just down the street from the La brea tarpits. maybe they could bring back a whooly mammoth

  • Missy

I heard about Natasha’s death sad news. About Melrose Place, I think Locklear will come back eventually, but I do know Grant Show will be the first original to return because Jake’s son David is on the show.

  • Tim

They need to bring back Thomas Calabro as Michael. I always thought this guy was tremendously talented and thought it was a shame his career stalled after Melrose. (And with Marcia Cross over at DH, I had been hoping for some stunt guest casting.)

    Nuff said

  • jen

first she made the right choice for her, but now i know that i´m not going to watch the new melrose

  • sue

Without Heather Locklear, the show will not be what is was. As a die hard fan of Melrose, I will not watch it with out her on it.

  • Hunter Roberts

Ashley Simpson??? LMAO! Wow, This is already off to a bad start! What a joke! pooooooor CW… pooooooooooooooor CW

  • Jeff W.

“There wasn’t a way to bring her back that made sense,” Since when do things on soap operas make sense? This excuse makes no sense. Why would Heather, who doesn’t have a lot going on these days except making ongoing bad choices in her relationships, turn this down?

  • Jason

Let’s all be honest: This news officially spells the demise of Melrose Place 2.0. Thank heavens. Can we just move on to a fresh idea, please? Get the Vampire Diaries up and running, and stop recycling old chick shows.

  • Adam D. Hall

Will Heather Locklear be the new troublemaker on “Desperate Housewives”?

  • tdog

Like what else is she doing ???
other than getting busted while being all stoned….
