Ratings: 'Dancing With the Stars' dominates Monday, as 'Gossip Girl' returns modestly

Coming off last week’s record premiere numbers, ABC’s Dancing With the Stars dipped slightly but still hit a huge 21.1 million viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings. New series Castle held up well in its second week with 11.5 million eyes, nearly on par with its premiere outing of 11.6 million.

Meanwhile, the CW’s Gossip Girl returned after a six-week hiatus to 2.2 million viewers. That’s about the same audience size as there was for the show’s last original episode in early February, but Gossip Girl’s ratings remain down in the new year. The competitive 8-9 p.m. hour, especially ABC’s Dancing With the Stars juggernaut and recently resurgent Bachelor, is a likely culprit for Gossip Girl’s ratings slide.

will the cw ever create a show that can crack 10 million viewers or even 5 million

Plus the fact that there are no new episodes for weeks on end – I almost forgot the show even existed.

Yeah for Castle! Loving that show and want it to stick around!

I’m pretty sure things are down on Gossip Girl because it’s pulling an OC season three with lots of crap, uninspired storylines, loads of roadblocks of interesting couples, and characters acting out of character.
It doesn’t help when viewers can no longer trust a show’s preview since Gossip Girl notoriously had a whole promo built around what may or may not have happened with Blair and Chuck’s uncle Jack. When the episode aired, the scenes were not in the actual episode and the plot thread had been completely dropped.
It also doesn’t help when Josh Schwartz says that they’ll not give Serena a decent love interest because that would be a disservice to the character of Dan.

Another fantastic Castle episode. I love the way the cases unfold each week. Last week it was a sliver of blood slowly dropping into a splatter on the floor followed by gloved hands sprinkling rose petals around a dead body. Last night’s opening setting with the combination of music and crime scene could not have been more appropo. It’s Moonlighting meets CSI-a killer combination in the ratings!!!

Yay! Chuck beat Heroes, with both as repeats. That gives me hope that Chuck will be picked up. And, I like Castle. The only thing I didn’t like about the 2nd episode is that I didn’t buy the reason for the girl to shove her “best friend” into the dryer after accidentally killing her. Huh?? 115 pounds lifting 115 pounds, into a dryer? Righhtt…. Now, if it had really been the lovelorn guy in 8B, then it made sense.

I’m loving Castle. Very catchy & keeps my attention. Chuck only gets 4 million viewers?! Wow the show is probably in danger for getting canceled.
