The Weinstein Company has acquired U.S., Latin America, and German rights to Nowhere Boy, the John Lennon coming-of-age story from debut feature director Sam Taylor-Wood. Based on a screenplay from BAFTA-winning writer Matt Greenhalgh (Control), Nowhere Boy tells the story of Lennon’s childhood: Raised by his Aunt Mimi from age five, he’s reacquainted with his mother at 15, setting off a bitter war between the two sisters for John’s love. Aaron Johnson plays Lennon, Kristin Scott Thomas will play Aunt Mimi, and Anne-Marie Duff (Notes on a Scandal) will portray his mother, Julia. Production began in March in Liverpool. Weinstein Co. is planning on a year-end release.
