'Star Wars' live-action series...still far, far away

Categories: Television

Okay, well, at least another year or so anyway. Rose Byrne got the gossip wheels spinning this week when MTV News quoted her as saying her friends had been auditioning for a long-discussed live-action Star Wars television series. But EW has confirmed with a Lucasfilm rep that a casting agent in Australia is “doing some preliminary ground work, but official casting will not start until the scripts are complete.” At the earliest, the series would go into production in 2010, the rep added.

That seems within sight to me.

Nooooo! Lucas you have enough money. You have already drained every last drop of affection we ever had for the original for 30+ years. This is beyond whipping a dead horse, now it’s whipping the fossilized remains of a horse that died a million years ago. Find another project to violate.

  • mage?!

This is what many of us fans have really been waiting for. Good news! Can not wait to see what Lucas has is store for us next.

  • Gre

Anything less than the writing, directing, and visual FX quality of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will be disappointing. And please, George, don’t go all kid-pandering on this project. PG-13! If we see anything like the antics of Jar Jar or even Episode II’s C-3P0, we will tune out REAL quick.

  • Hanpoopsfirst

I want an awesome Star Wars Battlefront III game now!!! It has been long enough so it better be awesome. Hopefully Pandemic doesnt screw it up because the Free Radical stuff leaked onto the net looked very promising.

  • BooGeorgeLucas

To Hanspoopsfirst, yes I would much rather have a new Battlefront game instead of this live action tv show. I read that Pandemic has denied having Battlefront since it was taken away from the Rebellion development studio. Battlefront III now George Lucas!!! Put it in capable hands please.

I never could have imagined that a fandom would reject the creator of its canon. You won’t find Harry Potter fans complaining about J.K. Rowling’s marketing tactics, and LOTR fans practically worship Tolkein.

  • Lynne

I hope Rose didn’t get into any trouble by sharing that tidbit of information. That would stink.

  • To Rhonda

You dont see JRR Tolkien or JK Rowling poo pooing on their creations like George Lucas has or has allowed.

  • Mark

Wow, this is what many of us die hard fans have really been waiting for. Good news! Can’t wait to see what Lucas has is store for us all next.
I’ll bet they hire Chris Doohan to be a Jedi

  • TheDurkinKnight

Yeah after Lucas ruined the whole Star Wars thing for me with his crap-fest sequels AND THEN him and Stevie Spielberg did a tag team beat down of Indiana “Geriatric” Jones…I think Georgie Boy should move on from his Cash Cow…After seeing the trailers for the new Star Trek movie, I think that Trek is on it’s way to reaching it’s full potential and taking the top spot as the ultimate space opera with lots of fun and lots of action…go back to Shady Pines Nursing Home Georgie Boy!!

They really need to make a series based on The Heir to the Empire trilogy. I realize they would need to re-cast Luke, Leia Han etc but I personally would be fine with that if it meant seeing a totally gnarly version of Heir. They already have an awesome story line.
One of the main problems with eps I,II & III (besides being totally crappy and horrible – well, III was pretty good) was they relied way too much on CGI. Bring back the human element of the original trilogy. It makes for much a much better show and, in the case of a TV show, would be way more cost effective.
But…regardless of what they make, its SW which means Ill be watching no matter what.

    Well…Tolkein has been dead for 36 years….

  • Dick Necker

George Lucas really does have no scruples, does he? He is now void creatively.

  • izikavazo

Any new is good news.. well I guess good news would be better.

  • Lloyd-

Heck! So far, I have been very impressed with the new Clone Wars show that is on (just about) every Friday night, so if this new show is done in a similar style, with live actors, instead of animation, it should be up to par, who knows? Let’s give it a shot, anything would be better than the poor acting performance that Hayden & Natalie gave us in the prequels! ; )

  • JZ

Hey “TheDurkinKnight”, it doesn’t matter how many new movies Star Trek comes out with, they can’t hold a candle to Lucasfilm & the fans that support them… NO COMPARISON, sorry, bub. :P

  • vick meister

they need a yuhzan vong seires plain and simple

  • vick meister

they need to cast mark hamill harison ford and carie fisher as luke han and lea and new people for there kids

  • Hooligan

What They really need to do is an animated movie on Shadows of the Empire !!!

Why not a tv version of The Force Unleashed. One of the thing people loved about the game was the plot. I know that at this point many or maybe all of us have a good idea of TFU storyline… but the same if Lucas pick Heir to the Empire or Shadows or even Knights of the Old Republic (videogame or comic). The point is to watch that galaxy far, far away into life, a new a decent one (Not like Episode I – The Jar Jar Menace/crap)

  • Son’gu Teth

War, war and more war. That plot is wearing a little thin. Hey George, lighten it up a little, please. More in-depth character plots and a little levity would be refreshing. Yes, war is central to the SW series, I know. I would just like to see it focused in another direction sometimes, like the books.

  • jabba

a long time ago in a galaxy far far away i remember the movie that started it all. and now im pleased to say go lucas hes set the standards for a cult film. and now it looks like a tv series is in the works.if star trek can do it so can star wars.
may the force be with us all

  • bountyhunter

hey lloyd i thought that hayden did a good job of portraying anakin and also that natalie portman did her job very very well if u pay close attention to carrie fisher as leia
u would see a resimblance of mother and daughter…
hope the force is with you

  • sfalk

I really hope that this show concerns the Old Republic periods, similar to the KOTOR games. Otherwise forget it.

  • Tom

I guess you can give up then sfalk. Its already been widely reported that the tv series will deal with the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The time of the formation of the Empire and the formation of the Rebel Alliance.

  • JediknghtMRC

George needs to wake up & listen to real FANS, those of us that have pay & stood by the movies all this time, we fans that enjoy the plot, the entire concept of Star Wars universe, I remember watching SW:ANH for the fist time a year later after it’s release, it blowed my mind, then came SW:TESB (which in my book is the best SW movie ever thanks to Irvin Kershner & George should think about talking to him to direct the pilot episode, I know, he will be like 85 by the time George thinks about getting the darn project started) SW:RotJ was good too, it kind of give a conclusion to the main story but we wanted more, then came SW:TPM, if you cut all the bad stupid stuff you can at least get 1 hr of fun, I was hoping SW:AotC was going to be better, it had it’s moments, I just die everytime I saw *I can’t said it’s name* but you fans know who am I talking about, then SW:RotS another one if you cut all the non-sense you can at least get 1 hr of good show, George are u all there still? a FAN!

  • john

This sucks, I can’t stand a new live action tv series and quite frnakly don’t care about the stupid clone wars. Man just let the stuff die off. You had your moment in the sunlight. Why do we stupid Americans beat things to the ground? Let the franchise die off and have its place in history, if anything create another series of something else. God how many retarded comic books, video games, novels, children books, and animation are we going to have of stupid star wars? Why keep those retarded fanboys on theforce.net in business. If we had that much time and dedication on preserving our real history instead of a fake one that makes money for someone else maybe we can get out of this finanical crunch in the first place instead of bailing everyone out. God what retards!!!

  • darth death

This is stupid, don’t like star wars and its stupid fans that worship it. Hopefully the economy will sink this crap once and for all
