As Summit Entertainment looks to lock in a director for the third installment of the Twilight series, Eclipse, the company is talking to a select group of directors — including actress-turned-helmer Drew Barrymore, EW has learned. While this news may come as a surprise to some, Barrymore did just finish work on her directorial debut, Whip It! starring Ellen Page. Neither Summit nor Barrymore’s reps would comment for this story

This project should go to a big name director like the Coen brothers or uwe boll.
Even if the movie Whip It is great…I think its still too eary to give this huge franchise to Drew. I think that alfonso Cuaron would be ideal. He made the best Harry Potter by far and would be amazing at bringing the story along with all of the action in book 3. He can do art/drama/action….he would be perfect!!!!
I don’t think the Coen’s want to get involved with this my friend.
Derek – thank you for the Alfonso Cuaron nod! I wanted him to direct New Moon since he has such an amazing gift for creating mood. Twilighters would be incredibly lucky if Cuaron took the helm of their beloved franchise, but he would never stick to the ridiculous time constraints issued by Summit.
My guess is Drew wants to get near Pattinson. Keep the hell away
This would be ridiculous. It needs someone experienced
hahah yeah this has Coen written all over it. Dont get me wrong, I love Twilight but no serious director is going to go for sloppy 3rds
NO! Please no. We want someone with experience. We really don’t want a bunch of big name people in the movies. The movies will be better if the actor is not bigger than the role.
NOOOO. Personally, Eclipse is my favorite out of all the books and there needs to be an expierienced director at the head of this project, not some actress that thought being a director would be fun. I don’t care how good her debut film was or whatever, these movies are not for amatuers!
Sorry but Drew HAS NO EXPERIENCE WITH FIGHTING SCENES OR VISUAL EFFECTS !!!
This book is one of the best of the series !!!
NOOOO I LOVE AND ADORE THIS BOOKS ! WE NEED EXPERIENCE AND DON’T PLAY WITH THIS FRANCHISE ! IT ISN’T FOR PEOPLE WITH NO EXPERIENCE ! SUMMIT DON’T MESS WITH US !
Eli Roth would do an amazing job. Or even Martin Brest. Or John McTiernan. Or Truffaut. The material is so money you can’t go wrong.
Drew has plenty of experience with fighting scene. Ever hear of a little multimillions dollar frnachise called Charlies Angels?!?
Coen Brothers please!!!!!
Queen Latifah would be an amazing Victoria. Or Beyonce!!!!!
Liev Schriever, no one else!!!!
yeah the coen brothers are closet twilight fans. all of their complex intelligent films are just cover for their inner teenage girls.
Oh god, please not her. Anyone but her.
Did anybody read the Kristen Stewart interview in Nylon? Where she called fans psychotic? I’m thinking she wouldn’t be too crushed if Eclipse didn’t happen. I can’t picture Drew Barrymore for this, but whatever. I think Summit sees easy money and wants to cash in fast before people move onto something else.
how about ron howard.he has had some good movies
Drew Barrymore would be perfect!! She was one of my picks for New Moon and would bring a lot to the table. Not only is she smart businesswoman (Flower Films), but she would bring a fresh perspective. She proved with Never Been Kissed and Charlie’s Angels (how about those fight scenes and special effects) that she can relate to a younger audience as a producer and actress. I believe she will have equal success as a director. She would be brilliant as the director of Eclipse.
This sounds like a really bad idea to me, so I hope that this is just gossip. The Twilight saga is too dear to me to think of it being in the hands of someone without more experience. Would Catherine Hardwicke consider doing Eclipse?
oh, i hope she does!! maybe the movies will be miraculously better… Although, since the two main characters arent really cut out for acting anyway i dont see how she could make the movies really that much better…oh, well…maybe rob will get too old and we will just have to hire someone else, by the fourth book! oh, a girl can dream!
I wouldn’t mind at this point. I think Summit is rushing the heck out of the series and combine that with Kristen stewart’s new oh-so-classy comments about the fans …I will have to be content with my books. i can’t love a heroine who thinks she is better than I am. She is not THAT good an actress.
I think Drew would bring a good amount of directorial talent to the movie Eclipse. Hopefully she is not in just to get into Rob’s pants LOL
I dunno…I kinda don’t like this idea. I like Drew Barrymore, but I just dont know about her being a director..especially for something that I care so deeply about
Oooo I just read the Alfonso Cuaron suggestion. He by far made the best Potter movie. It had a lot of sensitivity too…I really like the idea of him directing Eclipse! Great suggestion! Alright, someone call him!
I’m sure Alfonso Cuaron and Ron Howard would rather set themselves on fire than be associated with rubbish Twilight.
whoever gets the job…please do something with kristen! worst. delivery. EVER.
I don’t know what’s happening to the studio producing Twilight, but I’m not liking how they’re handling all things concerning the movie. I feel like they might exploit the popularity of the book, not even analyzing closely which directors will create the franchise. Obviously, they already noticed it’s become a Twilight phenomenon. Now that a huge fanbase is built up, I get the feeling they can just squeeze money out of it with the decisions they’re making. Instead of looking into what’s best for the movie, I’m worried they may screw up the whole deal by caring for that more. Some indicators are there, like the switching of directors, rushing the production, the writing, potentially picking inexperienced people working on the movie, staying tight on the budget. I really wish to be proven wrong.
