Wonderful to see some glamour back in the Oscars. Bob Hope & Fred Astaire would be proud! They need to tweak the memorial tribute bit some more but most of the changes were very welcome, especially the host. Hugh Jackman was fabulous! So sick of the negative comic bits done by a lot of people who are not part of the movie business to begin with. I don't mean Steve Martin & Billy Chrystal of course, but people like Jon Stewart who are fine at what they do but not appropriate for a show celebrating movies. This year was very refreshing.

I am usually not a fan of Hugh Jackman but I thought the production numbers were wonderful. I don't think that the format would work every year but it was a really nice change.

Loved HJ.
Hated the Beyonce musical mess.
And leave to a classless oaf like Bill Mahr to turn Heath Ledger's emotional tribute into 'all about him'.

Jackman was slick and serviceable. He did the job he was given. Now, let's give it to Steve Martin and Tina Fey and put some edge back among the gloss.

I had been saying for years that Hugh Jackman needed to host the Oscars. He did a phenomenal job when he hosted the Tonys, and he did a phenomenal job with the Oscars. I had started to become bored with watching the Oscars, but when I heard that Jackman was hosting this year, I was thrilled and he didn't let me down!

Hugh Jackman did great - I love musicals but is not a big fan of caberet, the part with Beyonce was excellent. I think Hugh has a lot of style and ellegance - practice makes perfect!

I think HJ was outstanding, but the production was so distracting. Did the producer not do a dry run & watch it the way most of us would - On TV. The big screen with a shinny floor made it look like I was seeing double, it was very distracting. The memorium was dreadful. I was squinting to see who they were showing. The first thing I thought was how disrespectful it was to the great talent that had passed away this year. Note to producer, not everyone has a 52 inch flatscreen. My last comment is on how distracting it was to see the panda from Kung Fu Panda keep jumping up for a treat while they were showing the nominees pictures. I was screaming at my tv..."Stop with the Kung Fu Panda clip"!
On to the good things, liked the gowns. The set was stunning with the crystals drapping around the stage. The 5 presenters routine was a little tiresome, it was nice to see the stars come out and say nice things about the nominees, I'm sure it made their night a night to remember.

I liked it, it was moving and sincere for a change, great to see quality actors deliver well written speeches instead of pop stars fumbling nervously over scripted wooden words. I did think the choreography was poor, but loved the old Oscars feel about the show overall. Good to see simple staging instead gilded opulence. I would have liked to be there, the energy in the room looked fun, how many ovations was there!!
