Contestants for the 13th cycle of The CW’s America’s Next Top Model will be required to be at or below five feet, seven inches (5′ 7″) in height for the first time in the show’s history. According to a network press release, previous seasons have set 5′ 7″ as the minimum height, but host Tyra Banks is quoted in the release exclaiming that the fall 2009 cycle will be “a year for the shorter model!” The official ANTM application available at The CW’s website, however, clearly states that “Producers reserve the right to make case-by-case exceptions…[and] are looking for a variety of models, including plus size models.” Open calls for the 13th cycle begin Feb. 28 in Miami, Fla., and will hit San Franscisco, Washington D.C., New York City, Dallas, Chicago, and Los Angeles over the course of March.

I’m definitely not going to watch. I’ve watched ANTM for 11 cycles, but count me out on this one. Not realistic at all.
Wow what total B.S. This just completely discredits them when they say they want someone high-fashion. Then again, the show never had any cred in the first place.
So possibly we’re looking at a season of short fat models who we’ll never see again except for a cover girl ad during ANTM? Not sure how interesting it’ll be to watch cat fights between girls who look like my cousins. But, hey, why not? It’s not like any of the skinny tall girls have made much impact in the modeling world.
you don’t need to be 5′11″ to be on the cover of a fashion magazine…. look at Eva Longoria-Parker!! cycle 13 is more realistic. btw, a size 10 is considered “plus size” in the modeling world!!

GREAT IDEA!! 5 foot girls may not dominate the runway but they will sure sell those adds with the fit of them jeans! Tyra has the means to make public what men and fashion already believe “short women got the curves to make them slurge”
I’ve seen plenty of short beautiful girls who deserve to be on covers across the board! Granted, I may not be the best but I’m 5′2 and I’ll run with the best of them. On that note, count me and all my SHORT friends in!

what is wrong with all you girls sayin that 5′7 and under can’t own it. so because you were born a little short you aren’t entitled to the same things as the girls who weren’t. you guys need a reality check and a personality. i think it will be a change and something good for once! i’m tired of seeing the same thing over and over again…….

im only 17 and its been my dream to be on americs next top model, im kind of upset that i cant participate and im feel i would be perfect for this, and my birthday to be 18 is june so im close but i guess not that close…anyways there is always next time i guess for 5”7′ models to be amercias next top model!!! ps:i think that tyra should make it okay for 17 years old just about to turn 18 when the show is going on to participate…anyways i love you tyra and one day i will be up there with you

Isn’t that something! The year that I am finally 18 & taller than 5′7 (5′11, to be exact) .. they are accepting only shorter models. That’s a bit disappointing, in my case.

I think that’s absolutely awesome! There’s a lot of girls that r short n beautiful! Its good that there gettin a shot at there dreams!You don’t have to be tall n skinny to be a model! Most of them look disgusting standing up there all tall n bones! Short girls can work it too n maybe BETTER! We’ll have to see

I agree that tall thin girls look more elegant and flow down the runway. But there are other types of fashion. And some short girls are tiny little waifs too! there not frumpy just bcz their short.
Honestly I think someone needs to make a runway world for these short little waifs. I’m happy tyra decided to do this. I’m sad I can’t apply because i’m seventeen…the irony is that when the show is actually aired i WILL be eighteen…ugh. Oh well.
-One thing i never understood is that in a good fraction of the photos i see in vogue and w magazine are from the waist up…so i don’t see what height matters if they are going to cut off half the body anyway…just saying.
For the losers who think this season will be disappointing because Tyra is casting girls below 5′7-
Look at how successful Tyra is. Im sure she knows what she’s doing. Im sure she’s not doing this season for “run way” models. Duh.

Hey everybody i’m 25 years old and I’ve always dream to be a model but i’m 5′6 and 118 pounds anyway being a super model isn’t alaway about height is about how you take a photo shoot, even the tallest girls look short in their pics because of their pose so if you got it flaunt it girl!!!!
