You got to love it when Hollywood pretends they are in the CIA. Just yesterday, Jonah Hill and writing partners Max Winkler and Matthew Spicer turned over a super-secret script that only Hollywood’s top studio heads were allowed to read. The high-profile spec is called The Adventurer’s Handbook and centers on four 20-something guys who, inspired by a book of the same name, set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book. The script was sent over on red, watermarked paper so it couldn’t be photocopied. Multiple studios were interested in the project described as an edgy, broad comedy.
It looks like the uber-tight security measures worked: Two sources say Universal Pictures bought it for seven figures, but the studio has yet to confirm, and Hill’s rep says the deal is not yet done. It will be interesting to see if the project, which in script form looks R-rated, will ever make it to the theaters.
UPDATE: Universal now confirms that Jonah Hill and Jason Schwartzman are attached to star in The Adventurer’s Handbook, which, the studio says, is inspired by the book by Mick Conefrey. Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod) is in negotiations to direct.

I really hope some female writers break through soon to counteract Judd Apatow and co. I’m fine with a reasonable number of these guy movies, but it feels like such a frat that occasionally borders on misogyny. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can only do so much.

Even tighter security existed when Dr Rand Pink delivered his script for the new Shindlers List to Steven Spielberg. This time it’s a comedy that takes place in a Boca. Dr Pink has been a huge fan of Diablo Cody. He has a new web series that is being produced by Steven Spielberg called The United State of LeeAnn a woman with no personality. This woman is beautiful, intelligent but has hundreds of “one date onlys” because she has no personality.The series gets help from Ms Cody when she stars as the doctor who searches for the perfect personality to surgically implant into LeeAnn’s brain
