Little, Brown and Company will release Catherine Hardwicke’s book Twilight: Director’s Notebook on March 17, just in time for the March 21 release of Twilight on DVD, EW has learned exclusively. The book will include inside secrets on casting, location scouting, and wardrobe — plus behind-the-scenes photos, personal notes about Hardwicke’s favorite scenes, and more. “With this book, I tried to show fans and aspiring filmmakers some of the process that the crew and I went through filming Twilight,” said Hardwicke, who started as a production designer for films like Tank Girl, Three Kings, and Vanilla Sky before making her directorial debut with 2003’s Thirteen. “My challenge was to translate Stephenie [Meyer]’s powerful book and make you feel what she makes you feel when you read her words.”

Wow….It’s an amazing news.
I am looking forward to it.
But where can I buy in Hong Kong??
I believe that it wouldn’t be sold in some common book store.
Uh, who cares? I enjoyed the books, and the movie was just alright… but why would anyone, even hardcore fans, care about the director’s notes?
PS: Funny that EW didn’t cover Stephen King’s comments about Stephanie Meyer.
I think Catherine did a fantastic job with the first movie, given the tools she had – the cast was amazing, cinematography stunning, but the heart of the book, the build-up to the breathtaking romance stephenie created, was a bit lost in the fray – and all that with the cast and story of a lifetime!!!! I hope Chris Weitz doesn’t squander this opportunity – Golden Compass had good effects (polar bears) but other than that left me flat – Chris, it’s the LOVE, Bella & Edward+vampires+wolves+intrigue that sucks us in – Stephenies writing – use those pivotal conversations – Catherine left out something crucial in Twilight-the night Bella says “Edward, don’t go” he-watching her sleep is converted for all time &decides is in love more than bloodlust – these things cannot be ignored!
“PS: Funny that EW didn’t cover Stephen King’s comments about Stephanie Meyer.” — LOL, I was just thinking about that.
What were Stephen King’s comments about Stephenie Meyer? Fill me in!
good for catherine …. making more $$ off twilight even though she got axed from new moon.
hopefully she’ll spill the real deal on robert pattinson…. ‘what does he look like naked’ stuff like that…. fingers crossed

i think it is a good idea, maybe she will tell us what key things are not in the book. but to all those who are made about certain scenes that are not in the movie they only can only cover so much.
Sounds great. Can’t wait.
She had such passion for the project and was crazy meticulous about catching a relaying production detail so it should be a really interesting read.
Hmmm … I’m wondering about the lack of coverage on Stephen King’s Stephenie Meyer comment. C’mon EW!
The Stephen King comments are from an early exerpt from USA weekend. I think it will be released in its entirety this weekend.

I agree with Carolyn. It can’t be ignored. I want to feel (again) the same way each time I read her Twilight works. My heart aches and I’m so love sick! I can’t wait for Twilight: Director’s Notebook.
I’m so excited. I wish I could pre-order it. I guess I’ll have to wait like the rest and run to the store on the release date. I think my little sister will love to have this look behind the scenes and so would I. I didn’t like that some of the scenes were cut but I would have like to know more about what Edward was up to at all time when he wasn’t with Bella. Since the movie is made from Bella’s point of view. I think it has a lot to do with the book though. I wish Stephenie had finished writing the MIDNIGHT SUN. I believe with all my heart that It would have been a much greater movie If It followed Edward but still told the story from Bella’s point of view. I feel like I’m getting one side of the story. Edward’s face is so perfect at all times so concealed that his emotions don’t come through as they should. I really would like to read his thoughts. I think it would make an interesting book or book if Stephanie ever decides to write them all from his point of view. I CAN ONLY WISH
YESSS!!! Another Twilight book!!! *halleuja chorus* I’m upset because Catherine won’t be returning for New Moon. Yes, Cris is a great director, but I haven’t felt so depressed since I learned that Chis Columbus wouldn’t direct “Prisoner of Azkaban.” All the same, I cannot wait for this book; I’ll pester my parents to let me get it until I DO get it!!! Also, the movie comes out on my BIRTHDAY!!!!! *squeeeeeeeee* I am SOOOOOO Happy!!!!!
this book will be awsome!
I am an adult who loves Stephanie Meyer’s work. Both her Twilight Series and The Host. I hope she ignores the rude comments written by Stephen King and continues to keep writing wonderful stories. She’s one of the best writers that I’ve read in a long time, including Mr. King. I look forward to this new book by Catherine and to the next movie.
woo! Can’t wait to get this book.
Stephen King just wants people to look at him when I would never pick up any of his books.
Summit has hit a goldmine with lonely teen girls and their lonely moms. If they put out Twilight brand body glitter girls would buy it, cry over it, and swear it changed their lives. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if that already exists.
Stephen King was right, and I say that as a fan on these books.
I am a fan of some of Stephen King’s books. His writing is far, far superior to SMeyer. Fanstalkers of Edward and the guy who plays him in the movie will disagree (really – the blind obsession with the Twilight series is possibly the creepiest part of the “phenomenon”). I’m not a fan of the horror genre, but King’s writing is pretty spectacular (and so is Jo Rowling). SMeyer’s books read like MadLibs tablets, like she sat down with a thesaurus and wrote them. No worry, fanstalkers. She’ll keep writing. Just keep stroking her ego, because I’m sure that’s what she wants. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if she sends out another letter about how her “human rights” were violated. Ugh. Write on, Stephen King!
Actually they do have body glitter and I saw it selling like crazy at Hot Topic *rolls eyes.
While I do agree with King, I just feel like- was that neccessary? I mean they are good books. They aren’t masterpeices but they are fun and exciting and romantic. So what if they appeal to mainly females?
i’m a huge fan of twilight, but I know that the books aren’t really that good. I mean, the first book really has no plot at all, but they are fun to read and it’s hard to put them down. If teenage girls are going to obsess about something, I’m glad that it’s books, and kind of sci-fi-y books at that. :]
loves the books…..movie was alright.still a huge fan of twilight
I’m not very excited about this book. I absolutely LOVED the books and was disappointed by almost the entire movie. The only good parts were who they cast as edward and how they made his skin shine.
Does it really matter if what one person thinks SM is a good writer and another thinks she is horrible? Kids (and parents) were lined up at bookstores to get her books. This isn’t a video game, or the latest Christmas toy, it was a book. She has gotten kids excited to read and that is something that is getting lost in all of this. If she can do it and make some money off of it, more power to her. I’m a fan of Stephen King, JK Rowling and Stephenie Meyer. They’ve helped me to love reading. And if silly vampire love stories will get kids excited to read rather than sit on the couch and watch tv, who am I to say that they are a bad writer?
I am a fan of both Stephen King and S Meyer and I love both there books. I agree King is a good writer but to say that about another auther is uncalled for. Its almost like he is jealous of all the fan fare her books are getting. People are attracted to any good book that makes them imagine a whole other world out there.
I can’t waiy,I love all these books plus I enjoyed the Host also.I am a mother of 4 and am madly in love with my husband. These books let me see some of the little things he does. People need to stop say rotten thing about these book Just look at the meaning and love though the book, we all have felt like this at times .The love, lost, loneness, the fight for that person or the forgiving of a friend. We all have protect someone from something in our lives.Just read and think about what the books are about. Let yourself be taken to another place .
so what did mr king say then? stephenie meyers books are fab they got me thru a rough time, they are very popular in the united kingdom, especially south wales where i come from. people of all ages read her books and enjoy them. can’t wait for new moon to come out. is it jelousy on stephen kings part i wonder?
Haha, yeah. I really don’t think it’s jealousy on King’s part. At all.
How is it possible that ‘literature’ (and I use that term very loosely here) has come to this? Squealing girls and body glitter and hysteria?? I will admit that I have read the Twilight series, as well as the books by Rowling and many others. I may be an overly pragmatic person, but I must admit, I didn’t cry, scream or drop into a dead faint while reading the books. I was NOT impressed with the transition from page to film, either – which happens often because directors are too intent on entertaining with special effects instead of telling a story. I am not looking forward to yet another diary by yet another director telling ‘how amazing this journey was’ etc. So… don’t insist on your parents buying you this book. I mean, really. If you want your parents to buy you a book, go to the literature section instead of the fanatic teeny-bopper section and pick up a story with depth and literary value. Not another paperback that will have disappeared from the literary canon in 10 years.
Just an observation for everyone who is so negative … about the books, about the movie, about anything associated with “Twilight”. Nobody is forcing you to read the books, see the movie, or get caught up in the story. You don’t like it? Fine. You’re entitled to your opinion. Just don’t start thinking only your opinion is correct and everybody else is stupid.
