'Twilight' stars, Dakota Fanning talk 'New Moon'

Summit Entertainment’s newest film, Push — starring Dakota Fanning
(pictured) — may have been the main event at its premiere last
night in Los Angeles. But the studio still trotted out several Twilight
actors to walk the red carpet, and the upcoming sequel New Moon was
definitely on everyone’s mind — including whether Fanning would slip on
evil Jane’s fangs. “Dakota Fanning would be great as Jane,” said Ashley Green (goodie vamp Alice Cullen). “I really hope that rumor becomes reality.” Fanning, however, said she wasn’t quite ready to bite. “I think it is too soon to say for sure whether I
will or won’t be in [New Moon],” she told EW.com. “But it would be
really cool to do it. I am a very big fan of the books. I read them all
and Jane is an interesting part. We haven’t really sat down and talked
about it. So we will see. It was a good experience working with Summit.
I guess I now have an in at the company.”

Meanwhile, Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen) told
EW.com that much like future werewolf Taylor Lautner, he’s been hitting
the gym in preparation for the April shoot. “Bring on the wolves,”
grinned Lutz. “Emmett can take ‘em.” Lutz also says he’s read the New
Moon
script, and it’s “amazing.” Fellow Cullen clan member
Greene also said she’d just gotten her hands on the
script. “I felt like a spy reading it,” she said. “It does come very
close to the tone and the events that are in book 2. There are a
couple of things that were changed which I think make it more
interesting for the visual medium but nothing that will upset fans of
the books. I think it is safe to say that it will make everyone happy.”

Perhaps there’s a little Cullen clan favoritism going on at Summit,
however, since actors Rachelle Lefevre and Edi Gathegi — i.e. members
of the Bella-and-Edward-hating vamp clan — both said they hadn’t seen
the New Moon screenplay yet. “They are guarding the script like it is
gold,” said Lefevre, who added she’s already planning how to get into
the mindset of the vengeful Victoria: “I have to figure out how to
channel that much hatred and grief healthily because that is a pretty
dark place to go.” There may be another reason, meanwhile, that
Gathegi’s in the dark on New Moon: He recently told producers he’d
signed on for a spring Broadway production of the August Wilson play
Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. “When I told [Summit] I was going to the
stage,” said Gathegi, “they said, ‘No you’re not. We need you.’ And I
said, ‘Cool. Let’s try to do both.’ We start the play in February and
go until June. They are in, like, day 3 of negotiations to figure out
if I can do both.” But don’t worry; Gathegi says he’s committed to
playing Laurent. “Worst case scenario,” he says, “I get to hang out
with my vamp friends and be in what is destined to be a huge movie
released [on] Nov. 20.” (Reporting by Carrie Bell)

I may be mistaken but I swear I recently read another article where she said she hadn’t read the books yet. Hmmmmm…..?

  • Janie

Oooh, I can’t wait! I hope New Moon will be just as good as twilight! :) Can’t wait! TEAM JACOB!!!

  • no name please

Dakota Fanning would be good for the role if she was a little bit older. In the book, Jane isn’t described as looking THAT young.

  • CJ

Please No Dakota Fanning. Twilight did great on it’s own without a huge star to carry it. Besides the fact that Jane is clearly older, as Stephenie plainly states that in her novels vampire children are not allowed to live. Dakota is only 14!

  • sammie

No i seriously think that she would be a perfect Jane! I think Dakota is a sweetheart

  • No DAKOTA !!!!

They should not have her on New moon cuz in the book they described Jane to be brown headed and stuff. When I was reading New moon i thought of maybe someone that looked like Selena Gomez

  • Twilighter

Awesome !! Kellan Lutz is so funny n hot! lol yea but she would be a good Jane :S I can’t wait until the movie comes out…!? |*New Moon*| love it !!

Um, ‘Selena Gomez’??? Are you kidding me? People are complaining about Dakota Fanning being only 14, when she looks a little older than Gomez & you want the wizard girl to play the part? Dakota Fanning can ACT! Have you seen her resume? War of the Worlds, The Secret Life of Bees, Man on Fire, etc…Fanning can act; give the role to a girl who deserves it, not ‘cuz she’s a Disney “princess” who can’t.
    Dakota Fanning for Jane!!!

  • Twilighter

Awesome..!! Kellan Lutz is hilarious (: and hot.. lol She would be as great as jane i guess :S ya but i can’t wait for the movie to come out !! ugh! months to go lol ilovetwilight!! |*New Moon*| <333

  • Twilightter =)

    Agreed..!! not Gomez come on..

  • kiana

in a past article it said she hasn’t read them and no offence it seems weird how she wouldve read that FAST they are long!

  • Patty

If it doesn’t work out with Dakota Fanning, how about Anna Sophia Robb? She’s a great actress, she can be blond or brunette, and she can be creepy!

  • Ann

if she read the book, wouldn’t she realize that she is too young for the part?

  • Marie

Ann’s right, I wish that they would stay true to the book this time. I mean really, when was the last time you referred to a child as “childlike”?? It makes no sense. The word implies that the person is no longer a child. Jane is not referred to as a child, she is supposed to be childlike. I hope the studio gets this right.

  • anonymous

hmmm….it seems like most of the people who are against her taking this role have actually read the book. they’re not saying that they don’t like Dakota for her acting talent, it’s because she doesn’t fit the description of Jane IN THE BOOK. maybe that’s saying something.

  • Beth

i guess we should have expected this, because there are a number of actors from Twilight who also don’t quite fit their descriptions from the book. if the studio doesn’t care, why should we all pay to see these movies anyway??

  • Margie

Dakota will be great if she does it. From the descriptions in the books she seems to be about the perfect age. Remember Aro was forced to take her and Alec younger than he wanted to. Jane is a big presence and Dakota is one too. Perfect.

  • Anonymous

i think dakota would be perfect as jane. she is becoming a really great actress.
whoever suggested selena gomez, no way could she play jane. she is a typical disney princess girl. All disney actors should be banned from auditioning for twilight. that includes selena gomez, and vannes hugens. UGH

  • Sarah

    Ahhh!
    Ashley said what??
“There are a couple of things that were changed…”
No! They should keep it as close to the movie as very possible. No changes!
Okay, deep breaths. I’ll have faith in Chris Weitz that this won’t be a let down. Chris Weitz is a good director. He knows what he’s doing. Deep breaths. Deep breaths.
My only request for New Moon is that it BETTER make me cry. The book had me BAWLING, so if I don’t at least shed a single tear, the movie might be a big dissapointment for me, but Chris Weitz’s movies have touched me before, so I have to remind myself to have faith in him.
But, oh yes, Dakota. I think she’d be very good. (The same thing I’ve put in countless other comments I’ve written about this) She’s an excellent actor, and the people that don’t support her in being cast as Jane are just looking for something to complain about.
Remember Twilighters’ first reaction to Rob being cast as Edward??
Some weren’t so happy about it. Remember that??
    And now look. Hmm.

  • TSaga27

I really agree about having Dakota to play Jane she’s a very versatile actress and I think she fits to the character. About leah clearwater character, the only person I can think of with that feature and feisty attitude is mila kunis, I know by age she can be old but she don’t look her age anyway…since her character was Sams ex gf u would think that she should look more matured.

  • miles

Oh yeah, Dakota Fanning is a versatile actress, i think she would do great being Jane. I’m a big book fan too, but i still think Fanning can deliver the role perfectly. And someone suggested Selena Gomez?!?Hello, are you crazy? Selena over Dakota? That’s absurd.

  • Sarah

LEAH CLEARWATER IS NOT IN NEW MOON.
That’s not a rumor. Melissa Rosenberg said this. You know, the screenwriter of Twilight and New Moon.
I’m clearly more obsessed and informed than others.

  • dude

Jane’s in her early teens you nimbats!!
of course she’s older inside her body, but her physchical appearance is about 14, 15
now if you were a true fan of twilight you would know that!
Dakota Fanning is the perfect choice for Jane
and I think Lucy Hale should play Leah Clearwater
she’s way freaking better then Vanessa Ann Hudgens!

  • Newer Twilight Fan

Dakota Fanning would work – is she too old in real life? Yeah, but she can pull off the young look just fine.
And as for Dakota saying at an earlier period that she hadn’t read the books – I read all 4 in a week. They’re good, yeah, I love them, but they’re hardly the most difficult books to follow.

  • Heather

Not everyone is going to agree on who they want to play different parts for this movie. I think that Dakota is a great choice for this role. She is not so popular that it would ruin it, but has the acting chops to do a really good job. I think people are getting way too obsessed over little details that ultimately will not matter. Like hair color? That is what wigs are for. And the role of Leah is not in New Moon. I hate people blogging about this movie that do not know what they are talking about.

  • Anonymous

ok, i’m just trying to understand the logic from all the people who seem to like Dakota for this role. this would mean that the Volturi can hunt down and kill all child vampires and their creators, but yet, they use children themselves in their own inner circle…..because if you use someone as young as Dakota to play Jane…that’s what you’re saying???????????????? i’m not trying to argue or anything, i’m just trying to understand
