TV awoke from its holiday nap Saturday with the San Diego Chargers’ overtime win against the Indianapolis Colts on NBC scoring the best ratings for a primetime Wild Card playoff ever — 23.8 million viewers, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates. Similarly, the Allstate Sugar Bowl won the previous night for Fox, albeit with a much smaller audience of 11.8 million viewers.

On Sunday, primetime finally returned at full force: ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (11 million) and CBS’ Million Dollar Password (10.4 million) vied for 8 p.m. bragging rights, and Desperate Housewives (14.3 million) dominated at 9 p.m. as usual. And at 10 p.m. the Big Three duked it out with close results among ABC’s Brothers and Sisters (9.2 million), CBS’ The Unit (9.7 million), and NBC’s Superstars of Dance (10.1 million).
