Ratings: CBS comedies win the night; Charlie Brown still delivers

Charliebrownchristmas_l
Laughs were the big winner last night as CBS’s lineup won the evening in total viewers, according to overnight preliminary ratings. Big Bang Theory, which has been on a roll as of late, shot to its highest numbers ever with 10.8 million viewers. How I Met Your Mother’s 10.5 million was that show’s biggest tune-in since last March’s much-hyped Britney Spears appearance. At 9 p.m., Two and a Half Men hit a high of 15.7 million (its best since February 2007) and at 9:30 p.m., Worst Week nabbed a solid 10.6 million viewers.

On ABC, everyone’s favorite prematurely balding kid proved once again that he’s a holiday ratings star. A Charlie Brown Christmas won the 8 p.m. hour in total viewers with 11.4 million. The other big event of the night was ABC’s two-hour season finale of Boston Legal, which averaged 10.2 million viewers, a fine number, though not exactly a whopper of a good-bye.

NBC’s Chuck dipped a tad from last week’s numbers, down 300,000 viewers to 7 million. Heroes was also down a slight 200,000 from its previous airing to this week’s 7.8 million. And then to the really bad news: My Own Worst Enemy (Can’t they just take this off the air and end the embarrassment?) averaged only 4 million viewers. When you look at that number, it’s hard not to believe that Jay Leno’s new 10 p.m. show will be able to get a bigger audience.

Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles dropped from last week’s 5.9 million, down to 5.2 million. And Prison Break didn’t do much better with only 5.4 million, down from the previous week’s 5.8 million.

The CW’s Gossip Girl said good-bye to Bart Bass with 3 million viewers, while the struggling Privileged (Watch it! It’s a good show, really!) lost about 37 percent of GG’s audience with only 1.9 million viewers.

people should seriously start watching privileged its the new gilmore girls seriously.
its the CWs own fault though for not promoting it enough before it premiered they were so wrapped up with 90210 (which SUCKS) people weren’t aware they had another show one that could turn into something as succesful as gilmore girls.

I was so hoping that GG would give Privileged the boost it deserves. It is such a good show – WATCH IT PEOPLE!! Only 6 episodes left.

Why do Chuck’s ratings keep going down? This show is so good I don’t understand why more people aren’t watching it. Maybe it’s the 8:00 time slot? I know our kids are still up but during that hour they leave us alone!

Well, though I have not watched privileged, it sounds TONS better than what I’ve seen on the incoherant and inconsistant 90210 so far this season. MAJOR props to BBT and HIMYM. I can now rest easy that both will be back next season. As for nbc, I’m still watching heroes, I’M even getting pissed off at it, and I’m probably the easiest tv viewer too please!

NBC needs to reconsider and put Heroes or Chuck after the Superbowl instead of an episode of the Office. They are more in need of a boost than the office

Privileged is such a good show – really really really it is. Please give it a try if you were a Gilmore Girls fan.

My Own Worst Enemy is one of the only intelligent, well written, well acted shows on tv. But, it requires a functioning frontal lobe to appreciate. Hence, it I don’t imagine it’s popular with people who like reality tv, game shows, predictable crime shows (wow, let’s think of a new way to kill people, that’s cool!) and idiotic comedies. NBC should have tried retooling the advertising to a more intelligent audience instead of the “blow things up and crack necks” promo they did. I am glad they are still airing it and disapointed that they might cancel it without trying a different time slot or day. Really, seriously, how can anyone think that the predictable, poorly written, poorly acted, pedestrian crap that passes for television drama is better?

I absolutley LOVE “The Big Bang Theory”. It is so funny! In my opinion, it shares the honor for the Best Sitcom on TV with “30 Rock”

  • Anna

I agree with jake. Chuck and Heroes seriously need the extra boost from the Super bowl, more than The Office. Ultimately I think Chuck should be the one. It’s just a great show that need more exposure. And if people have the chance to catch part of what they’ve been missing out, chances are, they will be back for more.

I don’t understand how Chuck doesn’t get more viewers. This is a fantastic show, with something for everyone. Just watch one episode, you’ll probably be hooked.
