THe movie was okay I enjoyed the humor more than anyting but it in no way compares to the series. The love bella & edward have for eachother is much more domniant in the book. I was merely dissapointed by all the parts that showed them lying on the meadow & on the bed with background music and nothing but their lips moving. In my opinion those moments were the crucial intimacy of getting to know one another & was not clearly seen in the movie. However, i did like bella's character in the movie a bit more she had much more of a strength than her obsessive and eratic behavior described in the book. As for Edward he's my favorite romantic fictional character who i'm sure every girl has fallen in love with.

Bottom line: movie good but the book is amazing!

Kristy Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 09:10 PM EST

Yes..the movie was BY FAR not the best movie of the year, or month, or decade even. Fine let's make it century...
but...it doesn't mean I can't watch it three times in a row!!!!!
GO EDWARD!

Jane Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 09:05 PM EST

Personally I thought the movie was a comedy! hahahahhahahahaha
As my friends cried/sobbed to the left and right...I was laughing hysterically (I think popcorn was spewing out of my mouth!)
Even though the movie lacked in many emotional areas, I got my fair share of giggles! What more can you ask for?

John Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 09:00 PM EST

I'm an eighteen year old dude...and even I thought the movie was pretty good! hahaa
For all you haters out there...maybe if you saw it twice you could actually see past your biases and realize how well the actors/actresses played the characters! FOCUS!

Liz Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 08:57 PM EST

I'm someone who has never heard of Twilight...that is until I watched the movie!!!!!
Let me sum it up in two words: Freakin AWESOME!

jill Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 03:13 PM EST

cool,I guess but get over it it was a stupid retarded dumb gay movie with no point it was a waste of film and the acters/actresses aren't that cute I've seen million of people hoter then them SO GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Karmen Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 10:11 PM EST

I think you should do the next movie by the book literally. Have it as the book is, people loved the book so you need to keep to it. If you change too much then I will make it harder and possibly screw up the movie and the others to come.
:) LOL love the first movie can’t wait for the next! :)

Amber Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

I agree with a lot of you who say the special effects and writing were pretty bad. They left out way too much of the mysteriousness of Edward, I mean he hardly held back at all telling Bella everything about himself. Also, at the end when Carlisle kept telling Edward to stop drinking Bella's blood, I laughed. That was supposed to be a serious suspenseful moment and instead it was funny =\. Other than that, I loved the movie and I can't wait till it comes out on DVD. I didn't expect it to be perfect, and it wasn't, but I loved seeing the characters on screen instead of just in my imagination :).

Stephanie Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

OMG! I went an saw the movie Sat cause we had a game Friday! The least I can say Is AMAZEMENT! I say they did a very good job with the Movie! I loved every second. I had to have my friend slap me 6 times cause I was almost screaming at how excited I was that the movie was GREAT!... I do however not like how they aded a couple scenes but hey It's the movies guys...think bout it. Deep down inside we all know that was an Incredible movie. Portraying the famed vision of Stephenie Meyer is not the easiest thing to do! So I have to Decided to go back and watch it again as well. On Tuesday when I get out for Thangksiving Break.
From one TWILIGHTER to the other!....
The Movie was the BEST. GO SEE IT!
P.S. I am super thrilled to announce Summit Entertainment has said they would be making the Sequel. NEW MOON!!! Yay! I hope they make the fourth book as well. That is my FAVORITE one!

Elaine Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:38 PM EST

I'm a hugeeee fan of Twilight. Your typical obsessed Twilighter. I watched Twilight on Friday and I thought it was okay, but that was because I was overly analyzing every single thing that came out of the actors' and actress' mouth to fully enjoy the movie. That's why I'm deciding to go and watch the movie again. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it a lot better the second time.

Esme Cullen Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:33 PM EST

Overall I loved the movie. Rob and Kristen were perfection as Edward and Bella. The only scene I was disappointed in was the meadow scene. I wished they had stuck to the book on that one scene. I missed seeing Bella and Edward embracing in the meadow and Bella touching his sparkling skin.

KWeath Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:23 PM EST

Just seeing the characters and story come to life was worth watching the movie. I had a smile on my face during the whole movie. Yes, the speed of the vamps was very corny, but who cares! It was a fun, entertaining movie and I really want to see it again. Book four was the last book in the series and having the movie come out makes it not seem like the series is over. My favorite characters were Charlie, Jessica, Bella (I thought K. Stewart did a great job), Alice, and Esme. Edward was very awkward at first, but he got better. The first word he said made me think the movie was going to be horrible, but keep watching, he does better!

Antonia Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:08 PM EST

Low budget, big hype.. uneducated people.... its sad that people cant see past "big sets, extravagent special effects"
i havent seen the film yet, but im really hoping it lives up to my expectations
im well aware of the fact that it had a tiny little budget for what it was, and i can imagine they did the best that they possibly could with it

Jamie Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 08:51 PM EST

My daughter forced me to read Twilight back in September... WOW! By halfway thru the first chapter I was hooked, and proceeded to power read all 4 books within a week. we counted down the days til the movie, and I dragged my husband and son to it as well, with me and my daughter! We all loved it! Very passionate, and innocent love story. It was amazing to see and experience the book brought to life by these actors. They all imbodied their characters to the utmost. Especially Jackson Rathbone as Jasper Hale. The book portrays him as very dark and creepy and boy did he nail it. Overall the movie was phenomenal, but I reccommend to anyone who has not read the saga to read it. I might actually commit piracy and get a bootleg... lol

Cathlene Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 08:19 PM EST

I LOVED IT

christie Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 07:18 PM EST

The Movie was So great I made my husband see it twice this weekend - We saw it first Fri night and then again tonite!!~ Rob Pattinson is Beautiful!and The whole Cullen Crew as well - LOVE IT- !!

Sarah Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

The Movie Was Awesome!
I can't wait to see it again and again : ) It had a small budget but did really well with what they had. I really enjoyed the soundtrack too! It was perfect...for those who are complaining about it, you should wait next time and read reviews and ask people what they thought. Don't rush out the first night. For those of us who really liked it we saw alot of it in trailers and clips and we knew what to expect and we weren't looking for an Oscar Movie we were looking for a fun , light movie and they delievered. That's why we love it , I think alot of people are going to just critizie it and that's sad. Just have fun and enjoy it! It was worth it to us and thousand's of others. I can't wait to see it again weds. night! Love It!!

Elizabeth A Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 04:06 PM EST

My Favorite Movie in the entire world! It wasnt as good as the book...but come on, what movie on earth is better than the original book? None. I thought the actors were amazing and I love(d) Robert Pattinson. Always will. I can't wait for New Moon! I think that it should be longer than 2 hours though, so we could get the full feel of the book.

Amy Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

I have to say. I loved the movie. Even though I think the book was way better I think the movie was very good for those non-readers. It didn't have information that wasn't explained. I really did look forward to a few scenes that werent in there but the scenes that I had looked forward to that were in there were amazing. Good job to the cast, crew, executives, and Stephanie.

Melissa Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 03:15 PM EST

Loved the movie! Kristen and Rob did a great job. Only complaint is Jacob was kinda short. Isn't he described in the book as being like 6'5" and very built?
Other than that I thought it was great and I plan on seeing it again.

Rachael Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

I never comment but so many people are being so mean! Chill out, it's just a movie. Some parts were cheesy, but I just watched the first Harry Potter movie with my kids again and it was way cheesy too. My mom hated Twilight, my dad liked it better then the new James Bond movie. Everyone is different. Stop being mean. If you don't like it you don't have to watch it.

Tay Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

I'm sorry the Twilight movie was almost as big of a disappointment as Breaking Dawn. It doesn't matter if they didn't stay true to the book or not, as long as the movie was good, it was fine with me. It's called an adaptation for a reason people. But, the movie was horrible. And as much as I want to sugarcoat it, the movie was indeed an epic fail. It was hilarious, I mean the entire movie was hilarious, the parts that were supposed to be really serious were the funniest. The acting was poor, the writing was poor (seriously did anyone pay attention to the writing), the special effects were poor, I wanted my money back.

Kerri Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

I thought the movie was great. The screenwriters had quite the task to jam a lot of stuff into two hours and I thought they condensed it without sacrificing anything important. The book moves at a much slower pace but unless this was created into a miniseries, I don't see how else it could have been done. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by Charlie and Billy Black's one liners. Funny! I look forward to the sequel.

Ashley Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

That is freakin' awesome!! I saw Twilight yesterday on Saturday :) I love it. there were a few things that bothered me but everything else made me forget it :D Im so glad there will be another one and I cant wait to see it! I hope it's done soooon!!!

Penny Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

What I don't understand is why people have to be so negative and mean spirited. Myself, my two daughters, and my husband (who did not read the books)all enjoyed the movie very much. However, it is just a movie. It's not a competition, nor do the actors, director or writers deserve to be so harshly criticized for their work. I want to sent out a big thank you to Stephenie Meyer for all her hard work and sacrifice, as well, I wish her and all those involved with the movie long and successful careers.

Dee Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

I absolutely loved it. My daughter and I saw it 3 times this weekend (twice on Friday!). The cast was wonderful. Bella was awkward but strong, and Edward was tortured. Rob and Kristen were amazing. The entire cast played their parts to perfection. Nicki Reed nailed Rosalie's feelings for Bella (loved the glare she gave Bella at the baseball scene!) I especially enjoyed Charlie-the actor's name escapes me-he was funny and touching.

I think the cast and director did a fantastic job of bringing our precious characters to life. I wish the movie could have been twice as long, so we could get all the depth of the book. Of course that is not realistic. I'm looking forward to New Moon, but also dreading it. I find the story almost unbearable to read, but I think Taylor, Rob and Kristen will be awesome. Congratulations to everyone involved in Twilight! Thank you Stephenie for creating this wonderful world for us.

Jen Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:38 PM EST

I read the books...I really enjoyed the first three. The movie just needed a bigger budget. The special effects were pretty bad and the screen writing horrible. The actors were ok and they could do better with a good team to guide them. I have to disagree with the hard core fans...it won't be a harry potter or a dark knight. It'll do well for a small film, but I won't go see it again and I watched all the hp movies more than twice when they came out!

brooke Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:16 PM EST

I thought the movie was ok. I thought the cast was well chosen but decidedly needed a bigger budget (I couldn't help laughing at the special effects), and probably a different director; sorry Catherine. All in all, I will probably go see it again.

Tyler Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:09 PM EST

Now that the full weekend opening estimates are in = $70M!!!! I hope Summit is going to give bonuses to Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Man, do they deserve it - esp. Rob who went through every marketing hoopla Summit organized. The guy was gracious even though he looked dead in his feet in some of the interviews. I don't think he turned away even community newspaper reporters. That's what I call support. Oh, and I'm sure Stephenie Meyer's getting a cut too. Good job, everyone, I'm happy for your success!

Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:06 PM EST

I probably would have liked the movie more if I didn't read the books because I kept comparing. At the same time I might not have gone to see it if I didn't read the book. Bottom Line: Movie was cool but book was better

Rufeo Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 12:55 PM EST

I am the father of 3 teenage girls who love the books. Last spring when I heard about the movie coming out, and after a few years of ignoring my daughter endless chatter about the books, I decided to read them (1-3). Oh my gosh, though I must admit the story was captivating (girly books, heh), all kidding aside I did enjoy the books, and most of all I enjoyed discussing the books with my daughter.

I also read The Host (hard to get into but was enjoyable in the end). I still need to read Breaking Dawn.

Rufeo Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

As for the movie… from the weak advertising, weaker trailers, I was expecting very little from the movie. My girls’ view on the movie was that of most peoples’ Robert Pattinson: wrong guy, from there viewing of the Bella’s character, Kristen Stewart did not seem to fit the role well as they’d like. But as always the girls’ anticipation and excitement for the books/movie I had them at the theatre 1.5 hours early on Friday the 21. We got descent seat and sat for what seemed like forever…

Was it worth the wait? We thought so! we liked the way the movie stayed true to the book (not perfectly) but far better than many. We liked the actors’ depiction of the characters (not perfect) but very enjoyable. We liked the cast as well (even though we thought we might not). Cannot wait till the next movie is out, w/ 70M after 2 days it’s pretty much a go, I think.

P.S. I took my wife, who has not read the books yesterday Saturday the 22, she did enjoy it!

Nikki Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 12:01 PM EST

Ok!!! so heres the deal....When I saw the movie it just kept going so great...I wanted to cry at parts and it take me a lot to cry...I laughed...I had suspens take over me...It was the best freakin film I have ever seen in my whole life...Nothing can beat Its like drug I want to see it again and I am so worth seeing 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times so go buy a ticket sit ur booty down and watch the movie it will blow you away. If only that kind of love exicted... luv it

Kelly in SD Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:51 AM EST

All in all, Twilight was a hit for me but I doubt I'd have paid for the second, third and fourth (if not subsequent) theater tickets without my treasured knowledge and familiarity of the book. Yes, I'm aware that adaptations rarely live up to the book and I realize Catherine and Melissa had a really fine line to walk in order to satisfy fans and non-fans alike. Because of this and because of their obvious efforts to meet everyone's desires, I think overall they did an admirable job. However, I hope that Summit will realize that if they invest more in the production of New Moon, the fan base, marketing of the film and Summit itself, will likely be better served in the long run!

Kelly in SD Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:50 AM EST

about the Cullens.

I also think everyone missed out on the true depth of Bella and Edward's love by the omission of Jasper telling Bella that she was "worth it" and Alice's explanation of the changes in Edward since she'd come into his life and what it would mean to their family to have to look into his eyes should anything happen to her. Another subtle but important detail that was never explained is the significance of a vampire's eye color. So the focus on the burgundy eyes of the nomads and the golden color of the Cullens during the baseball scene seemed a little gratuitous. I even read one critic's comment who thought Edwards eye color changed when looking at Bella! All in all, Twilight was a hit for me but I doubt I'd have paid for the second, third and fourth (if not subsequent) theater tickets without my treasured knowledge and familiarity of the book. Yes, I'm aware that adaptations rarely live up to the book and I realize Catherine and Melissa had a really fine

Kelly in SD Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:47 AM EST

I saw the movie twice and really enjoyed it, so much so that I’ll be going back twice more on Tuesday. I thought all the actors did terrific jobs; human, vampire and werewolf alike! Rob and Kristen truly captured the tension, the chemistry and the intensity of Edward and Bella’s love. Billy Burke was especially impressive with his portrayal of Charlie’s awkward tenderness for Bella.

By the same token, I was slightly disappointed with some of the direction and the screenwriting. I think had less time been spent on flying through the trees and close-ups of all the glares and stares, they could have afforded more time to provide important details that provide foundation for the story. Though not a beloved scene, I think non-Twilighters may have better understood the stares between Edward and Jacob and Billy had they included the confrontation between Billy and Bella regarding the Cullen's undeserved reputation on the reservation and the treaty that prevented Billy from telling Charlie

angela Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:31 AM EST

Am am so incredibly sick of the hype over Twilight, which I never even heard of until I saw it featured on the EW cover a only few months back. It appears that the marketing team for the film is in bed with EW. Don't you folks have any other topics to cover?

Brittney Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:06 AM EST

So, when I saw the movie, it was really late and I had a hard day at work that made me really tired. Naturally, I laughed at some of the most inappropriate moments during the film. I do intend on seeing it again, just to be sure to get the proper feel for the movie. That being said, I do think that there were some serious issues with it. Hopefully a bigger budget will make for better CG effects and something will be done about Rob's accent. It didn't sit well with me. Who knows, maybe they'll make it longer. I did love that they added screen time for the humans, that was great. And Billy Burke as Charlie was the most believable movie dad, I've ever seen. He totally wins. Overall I give it a B, for a little bit of ridiculous and Mike's booty dance.

Anon O. Miss Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 10:58 AM EST

Now that the movie has finally been released will EW finally return to reporting real entertainment news instead of being the "All 'Twilight' All The Time" magazine?

Fanpire Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

lol David, your a guy so it's expected that you don't like it. Im sure you could learn alot from it but whatever. I thought it was refreshing from all these sucky gorey movies that are either driven on blood or pretty females. This movie actually has MEANING. It's not a shallow romance, it's sooo much deeper than that. I loved it and Im looking foward to NEW MOON.

Meredith44 Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 10:34 AM EST

quote... "Um David you are wrong cuz this is the best movie of the year, and you didn't like it cuz they used big words and ur stupid so u could not understand what they were saying." /quote
Ummm, no. I can understand people enjoying the movie, but there is no way on earth that it could even be considered for "best movie of the year". So far I'd go for The Dark Knight or Wall-E.
And I really doubt that it is the use of "big words" that turned most people off from the movie. Instead I would blame the anti-feminist heroine (one of my pet peeves in that the girl exists only for the boy with no personality of her own), the purple prose, the lack of depth, etc.
I don't care that people love it, as it doesn't affect me at all (and I'm hoping, like Harry Potter, that it leads to an uptick in reading), but please, comments like that are absolutely ridiculous.

Alyssa Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 10:29 AM EST

Pull a DARK KNIGHT?????? WTF are you girls on. The Dark Knight is the second highest grossing movie of all time, and while Im at it all five Harry Potter movies are on the highest grossing movies of all time box office list.

Alyssa Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

Numbers dont lie? No they dont. Does having to beat 4.5 billion in movie sales, 400 million copies sold in 67 languages mean anything to you. Those are Mr. Potters numbers, so dream all you want. Oh and the 4.5 billion will change this coming July.

ChloeCullen Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

Um David you are wrong cuz this is the best movie of the year, and you didn't like it cuz they used big words and ur stupid so u could not understand what they were saying. The movie ROCKED! They could not have done it better! Robert Pattinson is the sexiest guy on the earth! With Peter Facinelli, Kellan Lutz, and Jackson Rathbone coming in at close seconds. The cast was great and whoeever said Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) was a bad actor has got to understand he rocked cuz he is newest to the animal diet and wanted to kill Bella. The movie will pull a "Dark Night" and probably make over 300 mill. total or more. Go Twilight! Oh and to mention Nikki Reed and Ashley Greene rocked!

David Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

I hope Twilight suffers a steep steep drop next week.... when people will realize that this movie totally "sucks"!
bwahahahaha! cheap, campy and gay!!!

Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 09:11 AM EST

Twilight sucks

Candace Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 08:04 AM EST

I think it was beautifully written. It is very hard to put a 500 page book written in 1st person into a 2 hour movie. I think it included all the key elements although I did feel it felt a little rushed in James/Arizona scenes.

Sarah Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 05:58 AM EST

I agree with Lauren, the second time around, I loved it so much more. And when I go see it again Friday, I'm sure I will love it that much more!

Lauren Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 03:27 AM EST

Ok so, initial reaction, like most of everyone elses was that it was a good movie. I saw it on Thursday night at the midnight showing and walked out sort of picking it apart for everything that was left out. However, seeing it a second time, I LOVE it. Sure, they kind of crunched a week or twos worth of witty bantering back and forth into the meadow scene, but other than that, I came out of the theater much happier this time around. For everyone who had the same reaction the first time of seeing it, see it again. It'll change your perspective a bit. :)

Oh and New Moon-yeah that's going to be amazing!

jen Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:03 AM EST

I am a true twilight saga fan and contrary to prior comments I thought it beautifully written. The books evoked such emotion from me! I was totally consumed and read all 4 in less than a week! I watched the movie and overall I was pleased. The beginning wasn't so great but it got better as it went along. I thought the way Edward DAZZLED in the meadow scene was perfect! I can't wait till New Moon comes out! For anyone who has not read the books, you should definitely read them. They're the best books I have ever read. Oh yeah....TEAM EDWARD!

LuvsEdward Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:42 AM EST

I don't understand what everyone is complaining about when it comes to the movie. The book is almost 500 pages and it is not possible for every single part of the book to incorporated into the movie. Even the Harry Potter movies cut out a lot of key elements. Actually, all books that are turned into movies are usually lacking. And, in all honesty I think this is probably the best book turned movie that I've ever seen. The added parts such as extra vampire attacks and the like I think were necessary to incoporate the other vampires instead of them appearing out of nowhere like they do in the book. And things that were cut were not things that were all that important anyway. Summit did a great job for a small production company with an equally small budget. New Moon will only get better because the budget alloted will be higher thus allowing a broader spectrum movie. Soo relax people they can't make the movie 5 hours to perfectly depict the book and Stephenie agreed with all the changes.

kathy Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 12:39 AM EST

the first showing i saw i had mixed feelings about it.... i watched the second time and liked it... i watched another time and loved it... a fourth time i was infatuated... the movie rocked!!!! i can't wait until it comes out on DVD...to watch it again and again and again! Rob did an excellent job and the movie made me like bella even more.... as for jasper, i could not stop laughing at his expressions, he reminded me of 'edward scissors hands'... they need to loosen up on his pained expressions they were just too creepy and too hilarious!!!
twilight ROCKS!!!! Brong on NEW MOON!
OH yea BABY!

Mils Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:18 PM EST

I saw Twilight, and it was exactly what I expected. It was a good movie, but was inconsistent. I think it was stupid to take so much away from Jacob, by having Bella find out about Vampires in a book about the Quilute Indians. It had charm but was underwhelming. I have to agree that the make-up and cgi were lacking. But the intent and emotions were on par and they definitely have an opportunity to build in New Moon. And who know what they can do with a bigger budget.

Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:16 PM EST

Some of us just have never heard of Twilight and so needless to say, we have never read any of the books. The reason for going to this is because of the ever talented Mr.Pattinson and if people could just realize that if he wasn't Edward and someone less hotter than took over as main character, firstly, it's gross because everyone else in the movie was definitely not worth watching, second, Robert is a super talented actor, and without him the Twilight experience is just not the same. So I mean, I wish that people knew that Robert Pattison is crucial to the movie, the budget, the fans, the box office opening night, and he's also extremely full of talent.

JMAC Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:13 PM EST

I still loved the Twilight movie and I forgive the poor editing and special effects as long as all is fixed for the sequel. For New Moon to be successful they need to make sure to beef up Edward's part! Rob clearly understands Edward's character and after Twilight he is a teen phenom, I think screenplay writers better figure out a way to include Edward without condensing the Jacob-Bella romance--that needs to be believable too. I don't want to sit through a 2 hour movie with 20 minutes of Edward and bad special effects...just saying...

mills Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:08 PM EST

I was waiting to write, that is till I saw the movie... but some of you are just soooo hard, it's no wonder that you don't get the movie. And read the books. All of us who love edward and bella know their story, for some it has gave us a great love story that ends happy not ripe your heart out.I think that we have more of that in real life then we need.and come on how can you put a whole book into a movie? I'm a devout follower of the Twilight saga and I have to say the movie is an excellent book to film adaptation. They masterfully preserved our most critical cheesy lines and moments and interwove additions and changes that made the film fantastic for audience members who are non-readers. Way to go Summit and everyone involved. I'm a Harry Potter fan too, and relax ok, it's the media that keeps drawing the comparisons, everyone involved in Twilight, from Stephenie Meyer to Summit Executives don't want to be compared anymore than those HP fans who dislike Twilight do.
All I'm going to say though...is the numbers don't lie. :-)

Sarah Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:07 PM EST

I went to see Twilight Thursday night and I thought they did an amazing job. I've read the books and am a huge fan, and can't get over people's freak outs at some parts being left out. It would be impossible to fit a 500 page book into 2 hours. The actors were all amazing and I believe the did it true justice.

HP lovers don't hate me...he's still my main squueze ;)

Chia Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:55 PM EST

I'm a total Twilight fan. I have read all four book and the Midnight Sun draft on Stephenie's website.
I have to say that I hated the movie. It hurts to say it but it is the truth. They cut out really important parts that built Edward and Bella's relationship. New material was added when that time could have been used to elaborate on all the rushed scenes(like in the meadow).
I didn't feel the connection between Edward and Bella until they were dancing at the prom. :(

This movie was a blast. Needed more hamburgers and steak.

Silly Sammy Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

No it needed more flavour and less of the biting.

Junky Joe Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:51 PM EST

i thought this movie needed some more pancakes for joe.

Krystal Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:37 PM EST

I thought the movie was funny but am I the only one who thought it was intentional?

Alyssa Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:28 PM EST

Yeah, For the love of God, Please EW, stop the Twilight coverage. You guys are owned by Warner Bros. And Harry Potter is the King of the world not this crapfest. Oh and Harry had never seen an opening day as low as 35.7 million dollars. Nor a midnight showing as low as 7 million. But if you dont quit the rediculous comparisons we'll have to bring on the Death Eaters to finish you off.

Natasha Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:26 PM EST

I'm really happy that Twilight did so well on the first day and i'm anxious to see how much the movie will earn after today and tomorrow. I must admit that i was disappointed in the movie, but when i considered the low budget Summit Entertainment had to make the movie, it was understandable. I honestly hope that Summit Entertainment will use the money the right way for New Moon. I think they've got a lot of disappointed fans that they'll have to please next time.

MIke Makkreel Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:26 PM EST

This Bond film is not as good as all the hipe. The movie opens with a un-bond theme rap music.."NOT" Then no bond theme music in any of -the actions seens at all. (what the heck) Just a low soft bond string in the quite parts. No "Q" no Q gadgets. Plot is weak... plus our new Bond does not even say his name.."You Know.."Bond, Jame Bond", plus he drinks a Gin Martini...COME ON...
" VOLKA martini shake not stirred" The new movie open up great with a car case, but the other action seen's are cut together so fast, it hard to see what going on...I think this movie is a good as the New X-files... 1 to 10 Bonds get a 6

Mike M...Big " Bond fan"

karen Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:21 PM EST

Thank goodness New Moon is a go....I was so upset after watching Twilight, not because of the movie itself (I love the movie no matter what!), but the nego reactions of some of my fellow "Twilighters". I got so worried that Summit might decide not to make the sequel...i kept checking for box office numbers or any news from Summit. i just know that with the right budget and preparation, New Moon will be awesome. Twilight is good considering 1)They don't have the big buget for it 2) at the time of shooting, they have no idea how much "enthusiastic" we fans are 3)again, they how no idea how big it is going to be...but now that they know...i am pretty sure the studio and catherine hardwicke and melissa the script writer (whatever her last name is)..will do their very, very best to deliver us a great movie worthy of the book...Let's give them a break and a second chance and forgive them for any "mistakes" they have made with making "Twilight"...

Orion Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:13 PM EST

Wow, that is a huge first friday. Good for Twilight. I guess the sequel is ensured to be on the way now.. Well, they deserve it. The movie was great, especially considering the low budget and the length of the book. The studio just have got to up the budget next time. The weak aspects were definitely on the special effects and make-up. Other than that, good movie adaptation.

Meredith44 Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:12 PM EST

As I thought the books were drivel, all of the people saying that the movie was nowhere near as good as the books is making me think I never want to see the movie. (I was planning on checking it out on DVD just to see what all of the fuss is about. Which is the same reason I read the books.)
Oh well. If it turns more people on to reading (especially if they then go on to quality books), I can't say it is 100% a bad thing.
I have to say, I didn't predict these opening numbers. I was thinking 50-60 million, not 70+. Maybe this, plus some of the other recent films, will show studios that making films targeted for women is not a bad thing. More diversity in film-making would be a welcome consequence.

Jessi Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:07 PM EST

My entire theater, even hardcore fans, laughed throughout the entire movie at how poor it was. Funniest movie I've seen all year!

Edward luver! Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:03 PM EST

The twilight movie was pretty good. I mean some key parts were cut out. The book was muuch better. They rush the movie so thy don't show edward an bella's relationship. It was really fake as well. Overall I thought it was a pretty good movie. I can't wait till New Moon comes out!! I can't beieve they Twilight movie got 35.7 million!!!! Books are like ten times better than the movie!

Bring on New Moon!

danyl Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:03 PM EST

Rob Pattinson should be commended for the incredible way that he understood and conveyed the character of Edward Cullen. The conflict that rages in Edward is complex, and Rob was able to bring all of the essential elements of what makes Edward "the hottest vampire in the world." Way to go, Rob!

Jessica Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:58 PM EST

I'm not surprised at all that Twilight made so much money. What i'm really excited about is seeing how much they made over the entire weekend. With more money, New Moon can be so much better!

Loved the book and the movie. Yes there would have been things I would have done differently for the movie. Any book to movie leaves openings for that. Fortunately, I didn't go there expecting a transcript of the book but a representation of the book. BTW I am not a teen fan drooling over Rob P. [although if I were a teen I would have been :)] I am over 50.

Tyler - part 2 Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:38 PM EST

Women, expectedly, are hooked into it because let's face it. We all dream of the kind of love Bella and Edward share. Most of us know it doesn't exist in real life and we're just happy enough to share the fantasy onscreen.

Tyler - part 1 Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:36 PM EST

What I don't appreciate so much is the quick comparison lots of press make about Twilight and Harry Potter. On the surface, sure they're both series, they deal with fantasy themes and they happen to be located in the young adult section in bookstore. Oh yeah, that guy Rob Pattinson appeared in both. But that's about it. Harry Potter is a totally different experience as a reader than Twilight. The latter is a love story, the former is a journey of a kid's adulthood and self-discovery. I think HP is better written and JKRowling has successfully created this magical world which draws you in. Twilight series is more character-driven. Bella and Edward are the elements that compel, and their strong relationship story overshadows the weak plots and simple writing. As an audience, both books will tap into whatever chord touches you most... continued.

Heather Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:33 PM EST

I went in to the movie with very low expectation. I love the books and was afraid that the films couldn't compete. Even though I think the books are by far the better of the two the movie was still good.I was pleasently suprised and I cant wait for New Moon to come out!

nina Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

HAHAHA, haters, take that! Never underestimate the power of Robert's hypnotic hair!

Crystal Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:04 PM EST

My question is how anyone thought it WASN'T going to make this much money. Just look at how many copies of the book have been sold and all the freaking publicity (EW's excessive coverage included). I'm happy for the fans!

I predicted 65 m on Thursday, we'll see how close I get :)

Tyler Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:47 PM EST

Hey Milo, ease up on EW. It's their job to cover the hot things in entertainment and Twilight's 37M opening DAY is pretty BIG news. I bet Twilight Central got more hits than their James Bond mini-site. I love EW for all good things movies AND TV (Dalton Ross and Michael Sleazak are faves) and Twilight Central makes me keep coming back for more.

Isabelle Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

I am a huge fan of the Twilight series and thought the books were truly amazing, not to mention entrancing- I couldn't even put the book down! I was a little worried about the movie but more excited than anything! I am so proud that the movie did so well, I personally loved it, but there were a few things I wish the movie portrayed better. I know it is impossible to put exactly what is in the book onto the big screen, because there is no way she can convert 498 pages into a 2 hour movie! However, I feel as though the movie didn't show how difficult it was for Edward to be able to kiss or touch her- in the book it takes him forever to even be able to hold and touch her without hurting her or having her shiver because he is so cold & it didn't really display that in the movie. Despite some of its faults, I truly enjoyed the movie & thought all of the actors were great for the parts! I can't wait to see the rest of the books converted into movies- I will be there for each movie! :)

Nilsa Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:26 PM EST

OK FIRST...PEOPLE NEED TO STOP COMPARING THE MOVIE WITH THE BOOK ALOT!!! AND SECOND...IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE!!! of course if people start going through their books and comparing it to the movie, they will feel rush, but I believe that once that stops the movie is good and it is a companion to the book NOT the book. Other than that that is my personal opinion, but people need to stop talking while there is the movie, and please do not take ur baby if u are going to this movie. Let people ejoy it. The movie was good and I will buy it once it comes out.

Just Another Girl Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:10 PM EST

OPPPS i wanted to add that the books are far better than the movie and whoever watched the movie please, please, ignore it and read the books. You can thank me later once you finish the series!

JustAnotherGirl Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:08 PM EST

I watched the movie yesturday and waited in line for around 4 hours. So as any of you predicted i thought this movie would do justice for the book. Obviously i was wrong. My friends and I were laughing the entire time ( especially on parts wen there shouldn't be laughter). Like one part, WHY WAS BILLY DRIVING AND THEN TWO SECOND LATER THERE LIFTING HIM UP TO A WHEELCHAIR???????? WAS I THE ONLY ONE THE CAUGHT THAT? SECOND THE GRAPHICS WEN EDWARD WAS IN THE MEADOWS WAS SOOO CHEAP AND LOOKED LIKE TECHNOLOGY THAT SHUD HAVE BEEN USED IN THE 1980'S! THIRD THE WAY ROBERT AND KRISTEN ACTED WAS NOT RIGHT....OH MIGHT I ADD JASPER!!!! I gave up within the 20 minutes and just sat there. The only performances that acting fit the actor was Charlie, Jessica, Mike, Emmmet and Carlisle. I hope that New Moon will be ten times better, if not.....im done with the Twilight Saga Movies!!!

Syms Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 07:18 PM EST

I'm over 40 and loved the book and the movie!! In 24 hours, I have already seen it twice and will see it at least 2 more times.

I loved the emotions which the actors displayed in the movie...so real....so sincere.

Keep it coming! Loved all of the characters so much!!

To Nathan Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:52 PM EST

That's probably why your girlfriend is in love with a fictional vampire.

Phil Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:35 PM EST

I've NEVER read the books, nor do I have any desire to, but don't assume that labels me a HATER. I'm a comic book geek at heart, so I understand the difficulty of translating something so beloved on the page onto the big screen & not getting it right. Especially when that "something" is revered by thousands of people.I didn't read all the comments, but many of them state that the movie seems rushed & on some levels I have to agree, but again, I've never read the novels, but not only did I seem like they left out many plot points, the ending left me even going, okay, I know there is a 2nd book, but whats the deal with the ending? I dunno, I'm a 30 yr old gay dude, so maybe everyone will say I'm not "supposed to get it", but I know that I would definitely compare this film to a comic-book adaptation & could easily tear it apart as many fanboys & gals do to horrible comic book movies. In my humblest opinion its a love story that fails to show LOVE at all & for a vampire movie, NO FANGS!?

Erin Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:22 PM EST

I thought that it was an overall good movie. I thought that it was going to be horrible, but it wasn't. Sure, there were some parts where I laughed and I wasn't supposed to and the graphics were not very good for a 21st century movie, but still, I enjoyed it. The music fit the movie absolutely perfectly, and Rob did a great job portraying Edward. He showed the pain that you knew was in there. I also loved the action scenes. I thought that THAT part was going to totally ruin the movie, but, man, it was really good! And I don't usually like action scenes! I really did like it overall. "People are staring." "Ya, well, I'm already breaking all the rules anyway and since I'm going to hell, I'm going to enjoy it while I can." Priceless. I can't wait until New Moon comes out.

ally Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

I truly believe if people didn't feel some deep devotion to the books, there would be far less praise for this movie. I read Twilight and thought it was okay ... but the movie was a waste of twelve bucks. If I'd seen it on TV (on the CW), I might think it was cool. To be one of the most hyped movies of the year, I can't understand all the love. People in my theater were laughing through the whole thing (at Edward's weird expressons ... at Carlisle's clown make up ... at all the "flying" and "running"). I expected this to be cheesy in a fun way but this movie was campy. It makes me sad movies like this get so much bank and attention while truly good films get no recognition at all. Aside from all this, the insanity of the Twilight fandom bothers me. Girls breaking each other's noses to see the guy who plays Edward - that's out of control. The Twilight universe seems to be an escapist fantasy that is getting way way out of hand.

Nathan Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

If my girlfriend gave me the ultimatum of breaking up or going with her to see Twilight, I'm afraid I'd have to go with option 1. It looks so friggin bad!

Jennifer Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 05:59 PM EST

I just returned from the seeing the movie and I have to say that it was pretty good. Yes, it went too fast in the beginning but if they hadn't gone that fast, then we'd never get to the end of the movie. It would probably have to be four hours long to actually do the book the justice it deserves but overall, I liked the movie. Well, at least it's 1/5th of the way to $150m, which is what they said it would take to make the sequel.

Alejandro Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

I'm not speaking as a fan or harsh critic of the film (i don't care for it personally) when I say this, but I wonder if the movie can gross much money after this weekend. Not as an insult, but it seems the fan base for this movie are the fans of the book and perhaps a few curios people, so otherwise, once the fans all go see it this weekend, who's going to be watching it two weeks from now?

sjanes Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

I saw it for the midnight release with one friend and again friday at 10 pm with another friend, and I have to say that I would see it again this weekend if I had someone to go with. I am not some obsessed 15 year old girl, I don't drool over Edward, and I don't dream of being bitten by any of the vampires.... I am 19 and in my second year of college and I honestly think that it is a great movie. I have read all the books, and of course the movie adaptation is not as great as it is to actually read the book, but on it's own I believe the movie is a truly wonderful piece of work. The actions and emotions are very real, not like most movies are now where the actors play normal people better than we do ourselves. Twilight the movie is very believable. The powerful emotions and complex issues make it so beautiful and I am not just trying to sound smart.... I honestly believe that. Characters like the one's in gossip girl are not realistic for example, but those in Twilight are.
