Ratings: 'CSI: NY' draws extra eyes for its 100th episode

Categories: TV Biz, TV Ratings

Csiny_l Fourteen million viewers tuned in for CSI: NY's 100th episode, in which Gary Sinise's Det. Mac Taylor investigated cases whose victims shared his name. That's a huge number for CSI: NY, up 17 percent from last week's episode, and up a whopping 21 percent from last season's average. CBS' other programming saw ratings boosts as well. Gary Unmarried and The New Adventures of Old Christine both drew 8.1 million viewers, scoring respective 16 percent and 17 percent gains. Criminal Minds increased its viewership by 10 percent over last week, averaging 16.4 million to make it the night's most-watched show (as usual). The night's other winner: Fox's Bones (10.7 million viewers) earned the highest share of the 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. audience, even though it was down slightly from the previous week.

Meanwhile, Wednesday programming from ABC and CBS suffered. Viewership was down for the Peacock's hour-longs: Knight Rider (5.1 million), Law & Order (7.6 million), and Life (5.3 million, a 500k loss since last week). ABC's three dramas fared even worse. Pushing Daisies bottomed out with 4.9 million viewers, its lowest number this season by far, and down 27 percent from its debut-season average. Private Practice (7.1 million) lost a whole quarter of its viewership from its last new episode, while Dirty Sexy Money (5.6 million) lost 10 percent. Last week, ABC aired the CMA Awards all night, so that could account for the significant dropoff.

On the CW, the season -- excuse me, cycle -- finale of America's Next Top Model netted 4.8 million viewers, over a million more than last week. Its followup, Stylista, got to bask in Top Model's catwalk-y glow, gaining half a million viewers from last week's episode with a 2.2-million-viewer turnout.

WTF! Eli and DSM were/are great shows! This is just like when CBS decided to cancel Jericho! I'd like to know what Bonehead thought this was a good decision!

eli_darling Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 05:30 PM EST

I am so sad to hear about losing DSM!!! It seems ABC only keeps the crap - seriously. Hopefully HBO or Showtime pick it up... or maybe a movie!! We can dream can't we...

avidINNOVATIVEtvfan Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 07:14 PM EST

Well, you know what they say, the best get cancelled. I hate losing to the lowest common denominator..My modern 'fractured fairy tales' are leaving. Where do we send the petition, and could it work?. To'M' who said RAWR.. I'm with you all the way, and then some!!

Sad Day for PD and me...I hope I get to see the remaining episodes. Poor Chi, his shows keep getting cancelled.

timb Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 02:32 PM EST

The same network that canceled Sports Nite has struck again. What I loved about Daisies was how well they promoted it...oh, no, they never did. If Scrubs had been on ABC from the beginning, they would have canceled it 6 seasons ago. Clowns.

Ticked off Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

Three well written and shows to go, how very sad. DSM is one of the best shows on non-cable TV and ABC execs of the mindless are taking it off!!! Does Stupid sum it up!!! We don't need anymore reality shows and if DWTS was moved to just one day that would be a wonderful thing!! Firt of all Cloris was the only STAR on DWTS!!! Non-cable TV is slowing going down the tubes! I'm into viewing more and more cable and re-runs and only viewing the news on regular TV!!! ABC get your head out of your butt!!

Dan Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 01:39 PM EST

What the hell-Eli was one of the best shows on TV.

Danielle Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

I love DSM and I am very pissed off that it was cancelled. This season is SOOOO Good. Its actually one non-cable show my hubby will watch with me! Im so mad right now!!!

Ann Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

I loved all three shows!!!! I am totoally bummed about Pushing Daisies and Eli. What great shows. ABC is full of idiots. They think if the person is not wearing sequins and doing the quick step the show is not a hit!!!

Paula Weinstein Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:32 AM EST

Pushing Daisys was a charming and unique piece of TV. It's a shame the "suits" at ABC can't see the gold through the crap.

hilla Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 05:07 AM EST

please tell me that jillian is not mac's new love interest :(

Leon Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:04 PM EST

R.I.P. Pushing Daisies

Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

I think Daisies is suffering from being up against Bones, which is "quirky" but a lot more mainstream and accessable. They should move it and see how it does with "Eli Stone" or as total counterprogramming.

M Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:23 PM EST

The stupid thing is, I think people are jumping ship on PD because they think it's going to be cancelled, and they don't want their hearts broken, resulting in the low numbers that will get the show canned. Rawr.

Nick Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:20 PM EST

*weeps silently for Pushing Daisies*
Well, it was great while it lasted.

joe Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:38 PM EST

say goodbye to pushing daisies!

Lucas Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:37 PM EST

Hey Christine, you do know that the ratings don't literally count everyone. if you don't have the ratings box you aren't counted (if you don't know what i'm talking about you don't have one)

Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:33 PM EST

Pushing (UP) Daisies is bringing everyone down. Axe it. Private Practice did so much better when it had the DWTS lead in. It is so obvious that PD is hurting other shows and making ABC loose even more money.

Take it off and let it run its course on Grave Yard Friday.

Christine the PD fan Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

NOOOOOOOO! I'm seriously snapping at all my friends who promised they would watch but obviuously didn't(i.e; I'm snapping at one person. I don't have that many friends.)
