Ratings: 'Heroes,' 'Chuck,' 'My Own Worst Enemy' continue to lose viewers

Worstenemy_l NBC's Chuck, Heroes, and My Own Worst Enemy continue to lose viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings, with My Own Worst Enemy in particular struggling on Mondays. This week, Chuck dipped to 6.2 million viewers at 8 p.m., a drop of about 300k from the show's previous installment (last week, it was replaced by Deal or No Deal). Heroes returned after its own seven-day hiatus (Saturday Night Live's election special took over its time slot last week) with only 7.9 million viewers, a 4 percent dip from its most recent airing. And My Own Worst Enemy saw an even bigger drop in viewership: Only 4.3 million fans tuned in for the Christian Slater action drama on Monday, a loss of 1 million viewers.

All of that cleared the way for ABC to win the evening yet again in total viewers, thanks to a little show called Dancing With the Stars, which averaged 18.6 million viewers, a boost of 1.2 million from last week's edition. At 9:30 p.m., Samantha Who? benefited from the lack of SNL competition by snagging 11 million pairs of eyeballs, a nice leap up from last week's 9.7 million. Even Boston Legal got a boost: It drew 8.9 million viewers, a 24 percent bump from last week.

Elsewhere, CBS' sitcom bonanza held strong as usual, with the 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. block of The Big Bang Theory (10 million) and How I Met Your Mother (9.7 million) posting numbers almost identical to last week's. At 9 p.m., Two and a Half Men saw a slight uptick of 300k, for an average of 14.6 million viewers. And Worst Week was up 14 percent to reach 9.6 million watchers after struggling last week with 8.4 million. Tallies for Fox's one-two punch of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (5.2 million) and Prison Break (5.4 million) were basically consistent with last week's numbers, as were those for the CW's Gossip Girl (3.1 million) and One Tree Hill (3 million).

Chuck is a FABULOUS show that has a little something for everybody. The network would be sincerely wrong to cut this show off. In fact, the ratings have been since improving and the story lines are awesome. Sure, the Monday night time slot is tough, but Chuck has been holding its own. The actors and characters are so lovable and comical. Go Chuck. NBC, don't let us down just to spill some more senseless reality garbage onto the scene.

Hi - Here's what I see happening as far as trends. I really believe that I am right on the money. First off, I consider myself a fairly intelligent person and look for intelligent shows to watch. The venue can be comedy, drama, sci-fi - but the vehicle in and of itself is not really imnportant. It is the casting, storyline, ingenuity and "feeling" that the piece brings to the viewer. I believe however that there are (as time goes on) less and less smarter intelligent people watching TV and persuing other forms of entertainment. For instance, I will not watch TV news - it's fairly obvious that it is tilted to the almost far left in their coverage of what is important and what is not. People such as myself catch on to that. So I get my news from the internet and look at sites that present different views. I believe that is what is going on in TV land. A growing # of people don't believe the established media anymore because of their IMBALANCE. So who are left to watch?

christinazworld Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:53 AM EST

I look forward to Monday nights. We have friends and family over for our Monday TV night with Chuck and Heroes. We will ALL be disappointed if these shows get cancelled! As for MOWE, I was just starting to get into it. NBC needs to leave these shows alone and just wait and see what happens by the end of the season...

kristy Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

I love My own worst enemy and Chuck. Please keep it

Brett H Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 12:29 PM EST

What a waste of my time, I watch My Own Worst Enemy EVERY Monday, I look forward to it EVERY Monday...For What? Only to get it canceled after 9 episodes? Now I know why I never watched NBC in the first place. I swear I will never watch another one of NBC shows again if they take this show off the air. BY FAR THE BEST NEW SHOW EVER.

Ylleana Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 04:21 AM EST

Don't kill "My Own Worst Enemy"! The story's very unique and critically done. Once you put the show off, many of your audiences will lose their trust on your network. You don't want that. It just needs to be improved. Give Christian Slater more interesting scenes and script. His acting skills will only be such a waste if it would be taken off the air.

Awa Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 10:38 PM EST

Please keep My Own Worst Enemy i love it!!

Steve S Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 02:01 AM EST

As for "My Own Worst Enemy" --> this may be the most unique spin on the standard spy storyline. The pace and character development is what makes that show fun to watch...
You want success in a show take a page out of the X-Files - Serenity - NCIS - Chuck playbooks... It's okay to be serious but have some humor about the situation or plight the characters are placed in...
MOWE does that on top of one of the most interesting storyline environments... the real reason for canceling it isn't because of ratings... the writers see that their cool idea is going to get harder and harder to produce as a show. Yet like Serenity and others it's just barely finding its fan base...
Again in wonder I shake my head at the execs.
It's time to jump ship from the networks some of the best programming is on cable... Monk, Psyche, Burn Notice... I lay money down on Leverage in a month too! Why because their smart shows and they actually know the audience who is watching them!

Steve S Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 01:51 AM EST

Look I never got into these serial dramas with no love for life just morose behavior... Lost... Fringe... Heroes...
The reality TV is not even allowed in my home with three kids in the house -- mindlessness crap!
As for shows like Chuck -- My wife and I watched all last season -- and have now introduced our teenage daughter (weening her off the Disney channel). If they want parents (mothers and fathers) to participate with their children then the shows have to have some light hearted action comedy going on. Chuck is that show! Oh and I know that half my daughters friends are getting into the show -- again with their parents!
No father is gonna watch DWTS with Monday night football on -- and when it isn't MNF then I watch all the re-runs. Lammo TV producers/executives -- I grew up on NBC... now my kids are raised on Disney! By the way shows like Knight Rider 2008 has to much violence to allow the younger siblings possible exposure -- there is less violence on Smallville shakes head!

nancy Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 07:35 AM EST

My Own Worst Enemy is a great show. I cannot believe that they are taking this off. It is like watching a great movie only now it is a tv series. Give the show a chance. I really like Christian in the part. I have also started to watch Chuck and I think it is very entertaining. It does seem like when you just get started watching a show that you really enjoy they cancel. Go figure.

missxellie Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 05:47 PM EST

Heroes is one of the greatest shows on tv. Atleast it makes you think. Despite their entertainment value cheaply made reality shows are threatening the work of real actors and those who depend on viewers for their profession. In small ways the programs that force you to follow plot line and engage you in trying to figure out what is next to come exercises your ability to think. What mental reaping can be gained from watching hour after hour of reality show when we all know, it is not reality at all. Heroes is an awesome journey and anyone who is confused by its content should clearly lay off the mindless programming and tune into entertainment with substance.

erikSJ Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

I honestly don't get what's so "horrible" about Heroes. I have no problem following the plot and number of characters. I do think it's a little unclear where the show is going right now, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Try watching Twin Peaks if you think Heroes is overly complicated.

I gag at the thought of every channel being filled with crap like Dancing with the Stars. Uggh.

Heather Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 03:10 AM EST

Augh! I still will watch Heroes until the bitter end, even though I do have a problem yelling at it. I think they will finish the season but Heroes won't get a renewal :(. And they were just about to get back on track.

Poor NBC. What have you done with your action shows?

Michael Dominick Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 11:18 PM EST

Chuck is a very good show. Action, laughs, love....all good. So it was down 300K. I think it is very cleverly written. We need something other then the MINDLESS reality tv that dominates our airwaves now!!!

bostonbean Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 12:06 PM EST

Gave My Own Worst Enemy a try. Its decent but I guess I'm not a big enough Christian Slater fan to take him for the entire show. Chuck rules although I can see how people wouldn't be interested. Last season was def better. Needs to be more fast-paced and less buymore stuff. Terminator is a constantly going up and down in terms of quality. Some eps are truly great and others are a mess. But thankfully advertisers are sticking around for the coveted male 18-24 demo so it should stick around hopefully till they get their heads straight. But where is it going?

Snsetblaze Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 09:50 AM EST

I love My Own Worst Enemy though I watch it off tivo (Boston Legal still comes first for a few more weeks). Best new show of the season. (Life on Mars gets my vote for second). Christian Slater is great in the show. It needs a new time slot. They should switch it and The Mentalist or Eleventh Hour since those series are doing well and people would probably follow them. I watch Chuck, Sara Connor and Heroes, tivoing them all. I have never seen Dancing and don't usually watch too many sitcoms.

moonshake Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 09:45 AM EST

what is wrong with people? Chuck is one of the funniest things on TV in years and no one is watching?
Is the North American IQ level so low that most can't connect beyond formulaic drivel like Two and a Half Men?

Dale Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 09:44 AM EST

How can any show have a chance when the viewing public keeps turning in to Brain suckers like Dancing. Watching D list actors do dance numbers. Give me a break.

People complain about shows like Heroes, Chuck, etc,and then think Dancing is good.

ccross Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 08:29 AM EST

Ok, Heroes I get--but Chuck and Enemy? I love those shows! Both are incredibly fun to watch, I look forward to them every week. I really don't get the industry hate for Enemy--the viewers certainly seem to love it. And yet . . . Knight Rider gets a full season right out of the gate, again without thought to audiences. Maybe studios are trying to get their poor investment back before canning it? Wake up, NBC!

AJf080170 Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 03:00 AM EST

I love "My Own Worst Enemy"! I hope they don't take it off the air!

Jen80 Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 02:19 AM EST

My Own Worst Enemy is great. Aside from Fringe, it's the only new show this season that I'm watching. I don't get the hate or lack of viewers, as it's got action, great plotting, and great acting. Really. I think it's just up against so much other stuff--I mean, who can beat that stupid CSI: Miami behemoth?

Luis PJ Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:01 PM EST

Cause CBS has good programing Valcan...DUH!

Carly Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM EST

You didn't mention that The Big Bang Theory hit a series high 10 million viewers. Anyone who doesn't watch this show simply does not know what they are missing. It is hilarious.

james Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:09 PM EST

chuck is the only show i watch anymore but i am fed up with the buy more stuff taking so much time away from the three main people i love the show and hope they keep it and get back toe the pace of last season

Blair Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:03 PM EST

Just give up on heroes! it SuckS!!!!!

ks Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

Nice to know that "Knight Rider" is still at the bottom and picked up for a full season. Love all the cheeseyness in it :)
I tried and can't deal with Chuck and my own worst..... I am waining on Heros. would like to see Pushing Daisy's stick around

Valcan Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

I've said it before and I will say it again. Why do people watch CBS? Their shows are so formulaic and uninspired it makes me sick. Don't get me started on how mindless the people that allow DWTS to win each week are. My big problem is I watch Monday Night Football live and then record Terminator, Prison Break, Chuck, and Heroes for after the game. I watch Prison Break because I have watched it from the beginning though. I think that show should have only been on for one maybe two seasons.

Kristen Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:56 PM EST

Chuck is amazing and people should try to watch it. Heroes used to be my favorite show, but I do not even bother watching it anymore. NBC, give up on Heroes already. It's time has come and gone. Get a worthwhile show on the air already.

Kevin Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:15 PM EST

It's infuriating that lame reality shows get all of the viewers, while brilliantly written shows like Chuck and Pushing Daisies get the shaft. But it is kind of good to see that shows with around 6-7 million viewers are still sticking around. But how terrible shows like My Own Worst Enemy, Prison Break, and Terminator are still on the air perplex me!

rey Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:11 PM EST

heroes really needs to do stand alone episodes once in a while. even terminator does them. the over complicated story line is killing the show.

the dude Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:08 PM EST

hey I like my own worst enemy. as for heroes it has pretty much sucked since the first season, all the characters have caught a serious case of the stupid. Chuck rules!

Robert Case Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:05 PM EST

Terminator went from ok to good to boring to good again to bad. And I lost interest about 4 episodes back. Same with Chuck (sorry), but season one was much better. Bad writing this year... treading on the same plots and the Chuck/Sarah stuff is a spinning wheel.

achyfakey Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:04 PM EST

"They stink according to what I've been told from my uncle. I'm not watching it."

Oh my. So many things so say about that one...

john jackson Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:03 PM EST

love love love Prison Break. Characters are fun, stories are exciting, not too pretentious. Love it!!

Joseph Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

I am about to give up on Chuck. The antics at the Buymore are growing silly and stupid. The efficiency expert should be dropped because he makes the show inefficient and drags it along.

Sarah Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

Heroes ratings continue to drop week by week. If this was last year I would be telling everyone "just wait the show will get better" I feel bad because I was only fooling myself, Heroes sucks and I think this season is the final nail in the coffin for many viewers. last nights episode was horrible and proved to me that Heroes is not quality TV:(

Matt Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

I'll watch Heroes and Terminator till they are taken off, which at the rate they're going will be next year. For the love of god, I just don't get why the writers are messing up so badly. Take heroes, even with all of its flaws, it would be watchable if they'd just occasionally give us some kick-ass fight scenes between evenly matched Heroes/Villians (and give the Heroes half a brain). Or take Terminator, if they'd turn Sarah into the Tough as Nails woman she's supposed to be, and remove the whiney b*tch "I hate my life" crap they have John going through, it'd be pretty good. It's Sci-Fi, there doesn't need to be hidden meaning and thought provoking episodes.

Charlie Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:41 PM EST

Heroes wasn't good to begin with.

Andrew Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:35 PM EST

They stink according to what I've been told from my uncle. I'm not watching it.

Andrew Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

Why are "Dancing with the Stars" ratings going up when everyone calls this season lackluster? The celebrities this year stink.

Cleo Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:31 PM EST

My Own Worst Enemy is getting the shaft this year. It is when of the best and most original shows on and no one even gave it a chance. Slater is amazing in it. I will be sad to see such good TV cancelled. I wish they would try a different night then Monday at 10pm.

M Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:21 PM EST

THANK YOU petrellilover!! EXACTLY what I was thinking.

mage?! Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:20 PM EST

All of these shows deserve their collective fates. Heroes has had this coming for some time, regardless of well wishing by fandom. Let the next in line cue up and see what they have got, can it get any worse? (Don't answer that.)

petrellilover Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

Stop with the negativity for HEROES. I have had it up and over my head. I so love this show with my heart, muscle, blood and bone. I'll fight tooth and nail for it. There complaints last year and they were fixed. THhere is complaints this year and everyone is jumping off the ship. Stop it and start the healing.

NBC - don't drop Chuck. Pleeeaaasse!

Craig Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:09 PM EST

I'm thisclose to giving up on Heroes. The ratings are right in line with its quality. The show needs improvement and fast. Chuck is the best show on NBC's Monday schedule and deserves better.

Diane Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:07 PM EST

Anyone watch My Own Worst Enemy? I used to like Christian Slater but I haven't even thought about flipping it on.

Kate Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

I divided my time between NBC and FOX last evening (Chuck, Prison Break) and while I forgot why I actually watched FOX usually is the regularity of the commerical breaks (you can watch Dancing with the Stars almost in the shows entirety) and NBC is so off and better online. Maybe I will like Heroes better there and it won't be as horrible as the headlines are making it out to be. Of course my archaic VCR was reliabilty taping the Big Bang theory and HIMYM in the other room to get me out of a bad mood.

Ju Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 06:02 PM EST

Gave up on Heroes, Prison Break and Terminator... but can't wait for Chuck. One of the very fiew shows I still watch when it's on on Tv. Please keep it.

Christina Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

I use to watch all 3 hours of primetime TV on Monday nights. The only show now that I'm watching on Monday night is Chuck. I've defected from Hereos, Prison Break, and The Sarah Conner Chronicles. Maybe if there was something decent on I might watch it but those 3 shows stink and deserve the ratings they get.

JJ Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 05:35 PM EST

Yeah I think I'm going to give up HEROES in a week or so, the show just isn't good anymore. Kill off a few characters, theres way too many!

JJ Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 05:35 PM EST

Em Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 05:33 PM EST

Why were 14.6 million people watching Two and a Half Men? That frightens me.

Jesse Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

I am surprised even 7.9 million people are watching Heroes, the show is a mess.

Emma Taylor Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 05:14 PM EST

Prison Break stinks so much it should be gone.Who are the dummies still watching that garbage.

side3 Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

I hope internet viewing is counted. I am a diehard "Chuck" fan, but watch online. As for "My Own Worst Enemy", I really like it. I have defected from "CSI Miami". I can no longer stomach another round of sunglass fondling from David Caruso.
