Box Office Preview: 'Twilight' to suck up buckets of blood...and big bucks

Nov 21, 2008, 02:00 PM | by Joshua Rich

Categories: Box Office

Twilight_forbo02_l Twilight, the much-anticipated movie version of Stephenie Meyer's smash vampire-romance novel, hits theaters this weekend, at long last. And it'll be huge, right? Totally! But competition from fellow newcomer Bolt and strong holdover Quantum of Solace could take a bite out of Twilight's grosses. Here -- for the first time in blog form, woot! -- is how I see the weekend's box office top five shaping up.

1. Twilight -- $69 million
There's no doubt that the long-awaited adaptation arrives in theaters with great expectations. For good reason: This film (starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, pictured) is sure to attract the same kind of young-woman audience that made movies like High School Musical 3 and the Hannah Montana concert film big hits earlier this year. But just how huge will it be? Certainly, Bolt and Quantum of Solace will be fierce rivals, and there's some doubt that fledgling studio Summit has the marketing chops to open a blockbuster. But let's get real. Any fair assessment of Twilight's demographic reach (it's hard to imagine many young women would rather see Bolt or Bond), ticket presales (it has already sold out hundreds of shows nationwide), and general zeitgeist penetration points to big, big box office. Bigger, indeed, than HSM3's debut ($42 mil) or Hannah Montana's ($31.1 mil). Maybe even -- dare I say it? -- Harry Potter big. This'll be a fun race to watch.

2. Bolt -- $41 million
To me, all these animated movies are indistinguishable, but to little kids everywhere they're...well, they're like crack. Chances are, the lack of a Pixar label on this CG Disney release will keep grosses well under the $70.5 mil that The Incredibles banked in its November opening four years ago. But hefty returns on the order of Happy Feet's $41.5 mil November premiere two years ago seem do-able, especially with this movie opening in a record 982 digital 3-D theaters.

3. Quantum of Solace -- $27 million
The latest James Bond adventure is likely to take a hit this weekend, and its drop could be pretty steep, like 60 percent or more. Why? Remember that it got a poor B- CinemaScore grade, meaning that its word-of-mouth probably isn't very good. Remember that it attracted mostly older men, folks who can't always be counted on to keep coming back for more. Remember that its switch to a more Bond-as-Bourne setup may have alienated some fans. Remember all those things (which I've mentioned before). And now consider this new piece of info: After I reported that the film scored an estimated $70.4 mil on Sunday, its final figures were remarkably lower. Quantum of Solace, it turns out, only earned $67.5 last weekend. That's still a lot of dough, and it's still a record bow for a 007 flick, but it also indicates that, starting just three days after opening, the film was already starting to slow.

4. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa -- $18 million
The animated hit (14-day domestic box office take: $120 mil-plus) managed to hold on well opposite James Bond last weekend, dropping just 45 percent. But it'll have a tougher fight against two youth-baiting flicks this time around.

5. Role Models -- $6 million
Blockbuster, schmockbuster. The Paul Rudd comedy has earned a nice $40 mil in three weeks, making it a profitable success. In this day and age, mere profitability is enough.

I can't see how anyone could complain about this movie. Even though I didn't read the books before I saw it, I had no problems understanding what were going on. I believe that if somebody didn't get the movie, they couldn't have paid attention, or quite dumb.
I loved it, and went straight to my bed, reading. Did the first book in four hours, and then I saw the movie again. Yes, there were differences, but with a low budget, and a thick book, there's no way the movie will become exactly the same.
I don't think anyone could have played Bella or Edward better then Rob and Kirsten did, and I must admit I really do love Rob now.
Anyway, the reviewers must be old, sad med, with no sence of romance. The movie is just amazing, and I can't wait until the next one comes.

I saw it for the 3rd last night and it looks like I will be taking a couple more friends to see it. I love it!

Ant Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 03:24 AM EST

I love how someone is insulting the fact that they fell in love in a matter of days. Why don't you go and insult Romeo and Juliet as well.

New Fan Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

I saw Twilight this past weekend, and went it with absolutely no expectations because I had not read the books, did not know what the big hoopla was about and because everyone else was watching it I thought I would check it out. With that said, I loved it! Maybe because I had no expectations, but I understood it was made on a small budget, and there were definitely some cheesestastic moments. But overall Edward Cullens did it for me and my three friends who went to see it, none of us had read the books. We left heading to the bookstore, bought the books, and are in love with Edward Cullens. He definitely carried the film, and I am now a fan of the Twilight series getting started on the second book. They had a small budget, lets hope they get the funding they need to do it better, but the beauty is that such a simple concept and so wonderfully played by Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, they did well with what they had. His crooked smile did it for me, Swoon.....

As a grandmother of 4 girls with no interest in reading,I read Twilight and then immediately the next 3 books. I bought them for my grandaughters, and after convincing the oldest one to read the first two chapters, she found out at school that everyone else was reading them too. She then flew through the first one and begged me for the others. Once this happened, the other girls wanted to know what all the fuss was about, and they all ended up reading them. Two of their schools gave them extra credit for reading and writing reports on them, which was great. We all went to together twice to see the movie, and it was quality time spent together. We all loved the characters. The girls love Edward, of course, but also want to see Jacob happy too; and more of Alice. All in all, I encourage parents & grandparents to get their kids reading these books. No cursing, sex, drugs, etc, and it makes a perfect scenario for spending time with your kids!

I live in Brasil and I didn't see Twilight yet, but I'm sure that the movie is as perfect as it can be (the book is always better). I saw the "trailers" and I think Rob and Kristen are perfects playing Edward and Bella.

rob is so freakin HAWT!

king Fri, Nov 28, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

the only reason I LOVE this movie is bcuz of this XTREMELY "HOT" and "SEXY" guy......EDWARD!

go TWILIGHT all the way

Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 06:33 PM EST

I loved the movie I have seen it 3 times and it's only been out 5 days. but for the small budget they used for the movie (33 mil.) compared to like others it was great.

Elaine Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

I give it a C+. I liked it, I did, and I made sure that I didn't read the book for a few months b/c I knew if I did I would hate it. I know that some things had to get cut, I was prepared for that. What I wasn't prepared for was the total lack of charecter personality. Where was the love between Bella and Edward? REAL love not the angsty lusting that seemed to dominate the movie. My friend who went with me never read the book and she was so confused at the end of it all. A good movie should be understandable even if you don't already know the story.

Sure to a twelve-year it could have been amazing, to me, not so much. If you had to add in scenes, there could have been more action and not pointless tree scenes. Keep the actors, lose the horrible director and writer. AND GIVE ME MORE ALICE! Also, the Cullens didn't look gorgeous, they looked ike freaks who wear too much pale powder. Great movie if your tewlve and immature, but not so much if ur a little older (and im only 18).

Kristal Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

I am 24 and myself, my mother, my sister and my cousin all read the books at the same time. We absolutely love them. I was so excited to see the movie that every day for two months I went online looking for new trailers. Unfortunately, I didn't think by doing that I would end up totally ruining the movie. One I saw the movie during a midnight showing, I knew every scene, there were absolutely no surprises. But, I do have to say that the movie was okay and I love Kristen Stewart but Robert Pattinson TOTALLY carried that movie and everyone in it. He was so beautiful and conveyed exactly what I pictured Edward would be. Also, it is so sad to see that they left out so much from the book(which usually is what happens) but I felt that if I hadn't read them, I would be totally lost and I would not see how they could alost dispise each other then be madly in love. The things they kept the exact same were so small, but the things like the relationship Bella had with her dad; like cooking for him, lengthening the relationship Bella had with Alice, and the time she went to La Push and Jacob tells her the story about the "bloodsuckers and werewolves" was completly left out! Those were things that made us love each character and understand more about how everyone felt about her. Not to mention that Jacob was only in it for like 8 minutes total. If they do put Edward in the next one for longer than he is supposed to be in it, Jacob won't stand a chance. It wasn't a complete disappointment because to me, Edward's character protrayal was going to make it or break it for me and Robert Pattinson did a trememdous job, I totally kick myself for not going with my cousin who got to be his assistant during meet-in-greets in Dallas, TX! Ugh! I hate to even think about it! But once they do the next ones, they better have a bigger budget and if Catherine directs again, somebody shake her out of her independent film schtick and make her understand that this is a sci-fi style movie; think "Terminator 3"! Big action sequences and a story that you want to continue to see how it plays out.

Melissa Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

C overall. I am 45 and read the books at the urging of my 15 year old daughter. I understand it was challenging to capture so much in a 2 hour movie, however, much left me cold (ha). The makeup was clownish and jarring. The alluring beauty just wasn't there with the Cullen clan, especially Rosalie-she looked a bit slutty even. Alice really only had the right hair. Jasper looked constipated. Esme's hair & forhead were orange. Edward's contact lenses- all so distracting and disappointing. The EFX were sad. The make up and wardrobe were just dreadful. There should have been more back story which could have been done with photos as in the book and could have introduced the Vultori. Instead too much time was spent on tree climbing (I am sure that is because of the expense of the stunt) but it was non-essential. Also, what happened to the sparkle scene? I could not see anything that dazzled as he stepped in to the sunlight. It DID NOT DAZZLE. Bella and Edward could have been stronger.

Elias Guerrero Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

I think the movie was ok, it was not that bad but what made me mad was that they chnged too many things and it turned out different than the book. I believe the movie did not catch the essence of the book betwwen Bella's and Edward's love. So if you have not read the book you'll love the movie but if your a reader you might have some disappointment.

carly Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 06:08 PM EST

yeah i agree with clara!

clara Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

all you ppl who are sayin the movie is bad just have no taste in movies cuz seriously i thought it was the best movie i have seen in my life.. maybe im being bias cuz i have read the books many times but i am seeing the movie for a third time... it was so amaizing.. PLEASE PLEASE keep the same characters for new moon please please they were all amaizing...! i thought victoria edward bella mike and EVERYONE was casted amaizingly keep up the good work sumit best movie ever...

Jessica Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

I went in knowing it was impossible to get it perfect, or even close so I was prepared to settle for "Not that horrible" or "decent" or even "sorta disappointing". I went Friday night and seriously almost walked out of the theater half way through the movie. It was beyond bad, past horrible, and miles away from simply "disappointing". The movie rushed through the important scenes, lengthened scenes that no one cared about (Including one which Bella and Edward stand in a tree, it's seriously like 3 minutes long. Serious waste of plot time.) In short, I really can't believe the atrocity of it all. I wanted to slap every person I ran into on the way out that said "That was awesome!" I bet I would have gotten away with it too, since it was like four 12 year old girls who were wearing Hanna Montana t-shirts.

Don't waste your time, life, or money on this movie. Just read the book again.

Or watch paint dry.

Chastity Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 01:50 PM EST

♥ Great Movie for small budget! ♥
Catherine Hardwicke has the biggest opening EVER for a Female Director and I love her. She see's through the eye's of the teen's as well as the adults! I loved the movie and it's not even possible to bring a 500 plus page book to a movie! REMEMBER : They had very little money to work with and it's a Summit Film. I recommend 'The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion' in which they explain EVERYTHING about the making of the movie! I'm off to see it again ♥ Love the soundtrack too...Classic ♥

Melissa Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 10:15 AM EST

I love the books but am seriously disappointed by the movie. The developing romance between Edward and Bella was rushed; the screenplay was horrible. It reminded me of a student film. Perhaps with a bigger budget and new director the second movie will not be laughable. My advice to the studio: Don’t mess with a good thing! Clearly, the audience came out in droves because of their passion for the books. I, like many fans, was prepared to see this movie several times; but now I cringe at the thought of having to sit through that disaster one more time. Please, Please, Please keep the same cast for New Moon, stick accurately to the story, and LOOSE the director!!!!!!!

Charita Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 09:15 AM EST

This movie couldn't have been any better than I expected. It was so Awsome!!! Please keep the same people in New Moon.... Can't wait for the next movie!!

Kirstin Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 12:21 AM EST

I have read all four books and part of midnight sun and I am a twilighter! (TEAM EDWARD) I have seen the movie, so far, three times and I absoulutely love it!!! I can't wait for New Moon and even though I think Robert Pattinson is so sexy I still hope they don't add scenes that aren't in the book. And a quick side note for everyone on here that is talking about Jasper being a zombie...READ THE BOOK!!! He is the newest vegetarian and its hard for him. He's like that because he is trying not to eat everyone!!!

silver Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 09:24 PM EST

You don't think it will make $70 million, and you think bolt will make $41 million?

eat this Twilight haters ...

before the final numbers are up for Monday morning the film has already made over $70 million

Bolt only made $27 million ...

doubters can take a hike!

Caitlyn Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 07:28 PM EST

I am a huge fan of the Twilight saga and I honestly have been super excited for the movie. I've seen it twice this weekend and both times I couldn't get over the fact that the transitions were absolutely horrific. I really wish Bella and Edward would have fallen in love...over more time or something or we could have seen more passion between them.
For New Moon I seriously hope Hardwick doesn't direct it. Changing the director alone will make the movie so much better. And as for putting Edward into New Moon more than what he is in the book isn't a good idea in my opinion. New Moon is when they show the relationship between Jacob and Bella and we better see that.
And as for the cast of Twilight. I loved everyone chosen however I was dissappointed that we didn't see more of the Cullens.
Overall I thought the movie was better than I expected to be and I will definately buy it when it comes out. Until then I'll keep recommending it to everyone I know =)

Sarah Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

The Movie Was Great!!
Of course it wasn't exactly like the book, what movie ever is? It had a small budget to work worth and yet all the people who are complaining should just wait next time, and not rush to see it the first night! Wait and ask other people, read reviews! Don't be upset if people like it and WHO CARES how the people spell for god's sake?! (Ken) The movie was fun and we loved it and are going back again...How gorgeous is Robert Pattinson?! Wow, he took my breath away several times : ) Tha soundtrack was perfect as well. It's making ALOT of money and I just want to thank all the people here (esp. those who rushed to it then hated it)who paid for those tickets boosting sales! There's going to be a few more movies made and my advice is...Don't go see it if your complaining about the first one because we don't want to hear you whine the next time. Thanks...GO SEE IT!! It's worth it and you'll LOVE IT! I can't wait for the DVD!! Have Fun and go see it AGAIN!!

Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 02:39 PM EST

okayyy so I just came back from the movie. I went with a friend who'd never read the book. She had no clue what was going on 75% of the time. I LOVE the twilight BOOK, but the movie was down right horrible. Rob looked like he was constipated the whole time. Bella and Edwards romance didnt even show in the movie. They left out the Cullen history which made someone whos never read the books to not be able to understand who they really are. The scene transitions were horrible everything just jumped around which made it even 10x more confusing. Im really disappointed. I kept hoping the movie would get better the more it played but i was just even more disappointed. I mean, the hotel scene which in the book was about a chapter, was only about 2 minutes in the book. I dont see how Stephenie Meyer was pleased with the outcome of the movie.

LauraLoo Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 01:08 PM EST

Ok, soo the Twilight movie SUCKED. it is definately in the running for one of the worst movies i've ever seen. I thought the book was pretty decent, but the movie just shot it to hell. In the book, Edward was sweet and charming, and in the movie they made him a total psychopath!!! Jasper looked like he had something stuck up his ass the whole time. They didn't even go in sequence to the book, yet added in random unneccesary scenes. It also looked as though Bella and Edward actually despised each other, seeing as they hardly spoke, and decided it was more meaningful to stare at each other, as if they wanted to kill the other! they also managed to fall deeply and irrevocably in love in a matter of a half a day or so. It was basically rediculous and a huge letdown, seeing as the movie could have been so much better. I sure hope they don't make the others, and if they do, there's a different director.

Okay, 1000 words just aren't enough, but I'm sure what I don't get to say will be said by another. First, before I say anything bad, I did enjoy it. I love all the books, and the books are ALWAYS better than the movies: reading is subjective and your imagination makes the movie. That being said, here goes in the shortest possible way: The overall story was conveyed, but SO much of the story was left out. While I understand that some things have to get lost in translation, the movie was downright vague in many parts, to my girlfriend who went with me. The characters were awkward and just "off" in many parts. The theater was laughing in parts that weren't supposed to be funny because they were written badly. I don't even need to be specific about how HORRIBLE the special effects were. The rest of the Cullen family was little more than an afterthought. That being said, I hope the next is better, but I did like this one. I'm just glad I read the books or it may have ruined the saga for me.

Sam Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 05:36 AM EST

First, let me say that although the Twilight series was technically classified in the "young adult" reader genre, it reached far beyond. I am only one of MANY >18 that thoroughly enjoyed these books. The story was captivating and imaginative as well as romantic without the overindulgence of lusty overture so commonly found in "adult" romance novels. That being said, I was so excited to go and see the movie, and while I enjoyed it extensively, I was also disappointed. While there were wonderful parts in the movie, and it was wonderful to see one of the best series ever written that appealed to so many genres brought to life on the big screen, it also did the book more than one injustice, for a myriad of reasons.

I don't need to dialogue the good parts of the movie, because anyone that was in a theatre watching it can testify to those. Instead, I'd like to point out some of the disappointments. While the overall concept and story were pretty accurately portrayed, there was much of the back story that was omitted. I do realize that with a book of that size and one written with such detail that it would be impossible to capture every minute detail in an allotted running screen time, but some things were downright vague. Let me clarify - I understood completely what was going on, and understood the back story, but the friend that went with me had never read the books and was therefore left expecting more and less than impressed. Rightly so, I say. I found myself filling her in on some of the less important but still valid character attributes. First of all, they never took the time to accurately explain the desire that the Cullens aroused in humans by their very nature. Also, they never really accurately explained just how unattractive and self - conscious Bella felt about herself. While they did try, her character seemed more confused and almost drugged than believable. I'm not sure if it was the acting or the script, but the Bella displayed on the big screen was almost hard to watch. Without dissecting it completely, I thought that the characters were generally acted well, though I was slightly disappointed in the pick for Edward, as that is not what I would have expected from the reading. I think he tried to act it as best as he could with what he was given, but for whatever reason, it was not great.

Now to the REALLY ugly of it. The special effects were BEYOND lacking. They were downright atrocious. Even a movie with a small budget, albeit a $37 million small budget, should have had better vision and execution than that reminder of John Carpenter's Vampire. It was almost bordering on cheesy at times, or even B rate effects. The "growling" that escaped from the vampires in anger was downright funny. Also, the effect of sunlight on Edward was pretty rudimentary and definitely cringe-worthy. The scenes of running I think spoke for themselves, and the numerous "flashes" of wolves and the Cullens in the past were pretty standard "blah"; nothing that screamed "Wow".

Now, though it probably didn't seem as much to the millions of teens that were in the theatre, I also felt that the movie was definitely more geared to that age group than the book was. Maybe it was because my imagination and opinions took over as I read the series, but it seemed as if the characters were written more juvenile in the script than in the books. While the books did maintain the ages of the characters, they weren't so, well, angst-filled and stereotypical.

With all of that being said, though it probably seems hard to believe, I did thoroughly enjoy it, and am REALLY looking forward to the next installment, which is a definite go-ahead after the astounding success of Twilight. I know that it is a lot easier to pick apart the aspects of a movie when you have read the books, because let's face it: reading is subjective and the books are ALWAYS better than the movies, hands-down.

I sincerely hope that in the next movie, those in the know of the movie business realize their blunder of rushing such a great story to fit in an allotted time slot. I do realize that minor details will have to get lost in translation, but if it means extending a film slightly to correctly tell the story, than it is always a good thing. We would gladly sit through another hour to see our beloved saga portrayed correctly. Also, now that the numbers are starting to come in, perhaps those in power will also realize the beauty of GREAT visual effects and how it can really bring a screenplay to the next level. Obviously, they missed that boat on this one.

In a side note - though I know that millions of girls out there hope for nothing less than a movie with no one but "Edward" in it, please do NOT change the wonderful story of the next book just to satisfy some hormones. That is not how it was written, that is not how the story continues, and to change that would be to completely alter the end result, and not in a good way. Girls, you know how it ends, so just be patient. There's plenty of Edward to come.

Tiffany Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 12:57 AM EST

I would have to say that I enjoyed the movie, but did not completely love it. I thought the movie was too rushed and some of the younger actors (mostly bella's friends, especially the girl who played jessica) need more work with their acting skills. I know that the director has to cram an entire book into 2 hours, but the director could have taken more time to really capture the chemistry going on between bella and edward. Even though I thougth the movie was ok, I am going to see it again since I think Robert Pattinson is a hot piece of mancake and I want to support the film in any way I can so they could possibly make a second movie.

Shannon Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:46 PM EST

As a diehard Twilight fan, I went to a premier showing on Thursday evening with my 17 year old daughter and we were both a little disappointed, as most of you are, because some major parts were left out. I was actually pissed that they left out so many important things, i.e. Carlisle's history with the Volturi(so importnat to New Moon), Bella not saying "you dazzle me" or "I'm betting on Alice", etc. But seriously consider how hard it is to get every aspect in the movie that was in the book. Then couple that with the fact that each one of us has our own perspective on what should have been in the movie. I had to go see Twilight again to see if I was really that disappointed. I looked at it from a different perspective and IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. They did an awsome job with casting and they really did get a lot of the major points into the movie. SO FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HATED IT SUCK IT UP, DISH OUT ANOTHER TEN BUCKS AND GO SEE IT AGAIN. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!

sissy Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

Twilight was amazing whether low budgetor not Iloved it

muriel Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:38 PM EST

i love the books and seeing all the four come to life in the big screen will be really, really amazing! of course, staying true to the book with additional special effects will be the important keypoints in new moon. just please don't stray away from the book..like adding scenes which are not in there. the reason why twilighters came to see the movie was beause they loved the book..period! i still love the cast. rob&kristen are perfect. perhaps work more on their chemistry as their passion intensifies. also, they need to do better with the make-up. i am excited to see the italy scene when bella comes to rescue edward. always a twilighter!

kim Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:18 PM EST

Couple things special effects were a little disappointing, screenplay not as good as it could have been they rushed the story and didn't develop the romantic side of Bella and Edward which is what the entire story is about. Soundtrack was great. What was the deal with Jasper in the book it didn't talk about him being a zombie. He was so much tougher and stronger. The wardrobe for the Cullens was not at all how you would imagine when reading the book. But I must say with all that said it was awesome to see such an amazing book brought to the big screen. Nice first try hopefully they get a bigger budget for the second one. Good Luck.

After waiting months for the Twilight film to release, I can honestly say that I wasn't the least bit disappointed. It was freaking awesome!!! I went to the midnight showing here in Orlando's CityWalk, and seeing so many enthusiastic fans just got me even more pumped up! The film was great, even if the special effects weren't. The acting was good, and the little bit of humor they added made it even better! Robert Pattinson is gorgeous, as well as Tyler Lautner. Emmett and Jasper were also pretty hot! I'm impatiently waiting for New Moon. I know that with the bigger budget, they really can't go wrong.

candis Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

I really enjoyed this movie. I am in the late 30 demographic and I don't believe the book series or move EVER just appealed to the young adult. I didn't go in with the expectation that the movie would be exactly like the book and it seems like that is what most of the comments are about. The movie was incredibly romantic and fun to watch. It went by way too fast. I loved Rob Pattinson as Edward and can't picture who else could play the role so well. My only complaint was that there should have been more included between Edward and Bella. Where was the hand holding in the meadow? Why didn't Bella talk in her sleep. Why didn't Edward get to mind read in on Bella and Jessica talking to find out that Bella thinks she likes him more than he likes her. I wanted to hear them say they loved one another. If these things had been added, I would have been thrilled. But even having said that, I am so glad this movie was made and can't wait to see "New Moon". I give the movie an A-.

maria Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 09:09 PM EST

I saw the movie twilight and I fell inlove with it. All do I did wish it was longer like titanic and a little bit more scence from the book. But in the end I didn't care as long it's twilight and all the original cast. Omg I can't stop thinking about the movie I saw it 6 times and it won't satisfy until I get the DVD and watch it everyday. Oh that brings a smile to my face and I don't care that it hurts!! LOL can't wait for the other movies!!!!!! : )

Holly Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 08:11 PM EST

I finally got to see Twilight. I live in a very small town in the Ozarks, and I was certain that we would be able to get into the theater, no problem. So we went last night and the tickets were sold out. I went to the 4 o'clock showing today and got in, but it too was then sold out. It was the 3rd showing of it so far, and when we got out there was a line of people waiting to taker over our theater for Twilight. The budget for the film was low, so there wasn't a lot of special effects, but it was great!!! People who are fans of the Saga loved it, but those who hadn't read the books had no idea what was going on. They didn't know why Edward looked "scary" or why Rosalie was catty toward Bella. It was annoying listening to people verbalize this during the movie, but I would see it again, and I will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD. I am not a teenage girl swooning for Robert Pattinson, but a true fan of the Twilight Saga.

Ken Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

Wow... the 'Twilight' fans seriously need to learn how to spell. This board is an embarrassment.

Jane Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:58 PM EST

Low budget and it shows: schlocky, terrible dialogue, bad acting, and that leading man is seriously creep-looking. A true disappointment in all respects.

Charlene L Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:46 PM EST

Whoa . I just saw the movie today and I completely agree with the people who said it was rushed and low-budgeted ! I mean, I know I still LOVE the movie anyways .. It's just that I thought the actors could've done a much better job on it .. I was, throughout the whole movie was saying how "Hot" or "Cool" they looked. But also there was something bothering me too .. the makeup .. It was just soooo .. unnatural .. I mean their faces were pale, yeah, but their necks were still .. not pale. Oh and also, to me, there didn't seem to be much talking. They just did small talk. So they didn't exactly have a real, REAL conversation..
But All in all, I did enjoy the movie and I was sighing alot ..
Oh but now, they just have to, HAVE TO make a New Moon movie because of the big cliff hanger at the end of the movie ! I can't wait already !! xD

RACHEL Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:33 PM EST

I LOVED THE MOVIE! dragged my boyfriend to watch it and neither one of us has read the books! EDWARD CULLEN stole my heart! i didn't want the movie to end i kept wanting more and more! I cannot wait for the "New Moon" i seriously CANT wait! :D

Kelly Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 06:16 PM EST

Ok Guy's...
Here's the stat's just for Friday November,21st......
Twilight: 35.7 million!!
Bolt:7.1 million...
Etc..., Etc... Read 'em and weep hater's!! Yaayy!! Twilight Rock's!

kensie Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

I thought this movie was AMAZING!!! In my opinion, Kristen Stewart did an amazing job as well as Robert Pattinson. They couldnt have chosen any one better. I loved Alice, Emmet, and Rosalie to.! Jasper was good, but for some weird reason he reminded me of edward scissor hands. Of course it didnt follow the book. What movie ever does? Besides, the people who wrote it said they didnt even follow parts of it. Oh ya. those who say to not go to it if you are a true twilight fan, are wrong. Its amazing. I would go to anything that has to do with twilight no matter how lame:D

AlysabethInAustin Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 02:07 PM EST

This movie was just...gaytarded. SO much unintentional comedy. Im embarrassed for the actors. JASPER, are you about to have a stroke??Are you OK? New screenwriter, maybe new director, and def some experienced producers w a bigger budget, please. It was downright goofy.BUT-I AM going to see it again..as a comedy w a deathly hot male lead.

tag Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 01:28 PM EST

i saw Twilight and it was very good but they left out ALOT of good parts from the book and ther budget was too low to make it phenominal. and Kristin Stewart was good but she needed to look more in love than in pain. still a very good movie. i definately feel a better director would make the other movies a legend.

Gidget Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

Personally, I loved the movie. There are always going to be the people who hate it because they didn't go exactly with the book. I have yet to see a movie go exactly with the book. It just doesn't happen, so why expect it? I'm just glad for the movie in the first place. I think they did a wonderful job and I too have fallen more in love with the series after seeing the movie. I think they did a fine job.

eve Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:29 AM EST

when i went and say twilight at 12:01 on friday and then again that night at seven i left the theater both times more in love with edward than when i went in. if u even read the books then u would understand why there were so few scenes with the rest of the cullen family i actually thought they were in the movie a little too much in keeping with the book, but iactually thought it worked, the whole kitchen scene! jaspers face was great! i thought all the casting was amazing!each charater was almost exactly how i pictured them except the school kids which could have been done better. u have to remeber this is a movie if they had stayed truer to the novel it would have been almost boring to watch... go back and reread thee begining of the book it makes u realise more about the movie

Nicole Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 10:47 AM EST

Twilight made 7 million dollars on midnight openings alone. It is reported that it has made, so far 32.7 million on Deadline Hollywood Daily. Don't use numbers as a part of an argument if you dont even what they are...

B Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 12:43 AM EST

Bellatrix Lestrange Twilight didn't make 7 million for the entire weekend, it made 7 million just on the midnight premieres.

Justin Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 12:34 AM EST

Swap Bolt and Twilight and you got it right. No way in hell Twilight's making that much money.

Cookie Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 12:33 AM EST

Twilight was a big disappointment. Only because they did not follow the story as it reads in the book. If they would have done that....then they would have had a success on their hands. (Dont these retards get that when you change a book to script that you should follow that book perfectly because the ONLY reason to see the movie is to experience the book in action!) I feel they did a great job casting the vampires, Bella, Jacob, Billy, Charlie and Renea. But the high school kids sucked. Maybe someone more talented can direct the movie next time.

Bellatrix Lestrange Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:18 PM EST

Hear, Hear- Katie and Aubrey. JUST STOP!!

Chris Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:13 PM EST

I went into the theater with mixed view points on what the movie would be like. Let me tell you this, it turned out to be the most incredible experience! I was not expecting it to be so good. I actually went with about 14 friends, some had not even read the books and they loved it as well. Some of the elderly critics said that the effects were not that great so I was expecting them to be corny...they weren't at all. They also said the meadow scene was lacking, but I thought it was absolutely amazing! I watched in astonishment as my favorite book was brought to life on the big screen and the only thing I want is more!! The acting was incredible...you could actually feel Edwards torment in Rob's emotions. Kristen was a fantastic Bella, perfect in every way. I feel so lucky to have been able to see this movie and I will see it over and over again! Twilight has become a household name and this movie just reinforces all the hype!!!

Bellatrix Lestrange Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:09 PM EST

Congratulations more Press people on Crack. Its Not going to be Harry Potter big you dumbbutts. Do I really need to repeat the numbers for you again. 400 million vs. 17 million. 4.5 billion dollars vs. ? 11yrs vs. 4 or so. Really dont have anything upstairs do you. Harry Potter has never made anything as low as 7 million opening for anything.

CPACK Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:46 PM EST

Twilight was SOOOO much Better than I had expected! I am a bigger fan after the movie & I didn't go to the midnight showings! I thought it would be cheesy, but you'll be surprised. I predict it will gross well over 100 million opening weekend!

cullen#8 Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:38 PM EST

I absolutely agree with Catherine. It DID look very low-budget and it was very rushed AND many characters were made much less important. What happened to Alice, Emmett, and Jasper?! They were hardly in it! But I disagree with David Yates directing New Moon. He butchered Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Let's get Chris Columbus. He stayed so true to the books.

Tyler Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 08:23 PM EST

I live in Asia where it's nice and all except for the fact that Twilight will only open in Dec 19. How stinky is that! I've been trying not to read too much of the reviews (except Owen G's, for whom I've already professed undying admiration) but I can't help myself anyway. I've been bracing for some (mild) disappointment because it doesn't look like I'll find it good. I am disheartened to hear, though, that the girl who came in with very low expectations (I believe her name is Katie Clark) still felt let down. I guess Summit didn't really know what they had on hand (not that 17 million book sold wasn't a big enough clue) and wasn't careful enough about drafting the right director/writer. Admittedly, I haven't seen any of Catherine Hardwicke's films but she just struck me as a little too "free-spirited" to master a piece like Twilight where expectations are painfully high. I laughed when someone said do a once-over with Midnight Sun.. this is actually brilliant! Rob+Kris are great leads

Catherine Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 07:00 PM EST

My feelings are completely torn on this movie. For the mere hype of seeing our beloved Edward, Bella and remainder of the Cullen/Hale clan on the big screen- my appetite was sated. However, my concern lies in the fact that a low budget film could turn out so... low budget looking. I've seen indie films (some that wondering Kristen Stewart has done) that were funded with far less money, and still visually made more of an impact on me than this depiction of Twilight did. When you remove from your mind that this was a depiction of a world-wide best selling novel, what's left? A cute love story- sure, but one that was rushed, confusing and poorly shot. Did my gut jump when Edward swiftly and deftly moved Bella standing to lying down on the bed? Oh my, yes it did. Which fully reassured me that there is great chemistry between Rob and Kristen. I was happy to have been a part of a 12:01am viewing- but I don't think I'll trust Summit ever again- call David Yates & Warner Bros for New Moon!!

Allicat Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

This is a really bad movie. I LOVE TWILIGHT books but the movie is B-A-D. Edward is supposed to look like a god. Also he is supposed to have a body that looks like marble not wool. His chest is supposed to be waxed.

kim Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 06:01 PM EST

I thought the movie twilight was completly corny and poorly casted! Especialy the part of edward and dr.cullen. It was not suposta be a comedy they did not go along with the book what so ever I admit the put parts of it in the movie but come on if u didn't read the book you would be asking when the heck did bella and edward fall in love?? There is no way they can make new moon now because they left way too much out!! It was such a waste of time, waiting, and money to go see. How could they even be able to release such a let down like that?

Jade Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

The only actor/actress whose portrayl of their character I was disappointed w/ was Kristen Stewart. She was so monotone & seemed like she needed to spend more time studying her character & talkin to author. Ppl portrayin Edward, Emmett, Jacob, Carlisle and Alice did well.

I thought the movie was a lil too speed up & action scenes were too short. Hope with the next one they get a bigger budget, a better writer to convert the 2nd book to a script and director who sticks more to the book. Perhaps send out a survey to ppl to see what we want. After all we are the ones that will make them millions.

With all that said I'd give the movie a B+.

Brittany Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

I went into Twlight knowing it was going to be very different from the book but it wasn't very good. I liked it enough because I love Twilight in general. When the movie was finished, I didn't identify with characters or feel any sort of connection to them like I did in the book. And don't get me started on Kristin Stewart. She played Bella way too over confident. other tiny things didn't bug me but Bella is supposed to be awkward and shy. All in all, if someone wasn't a fan of the books before seeing this, they are going to leave the theater feeling it was a waste. There was no connection like there was in the books. I think it wll do well in the box office but it wasn't very good. Although, despite KStew, I thought the cast was great. The script was awful. JMO.

Christy Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

Expecting a 500 page book to be condensed into a 2 hour movie is unrealistic. Sure, there were things that could have been done differently as far as addition and deletion of scenes, and some of the camera shots were awkward but to say that it was horrible and sucked is way over doing it. I, like many, am a die hard twilight fan and though some moments left me wanting, the overall effect was great. There definitely needed to be more Bella and Edward banter but the actors did a good job with what they were given. Was it the best movie I've ever seen?, no, but I will see it again and I will buy the dvd because it was good despite the fact that it was not an exact replica of the book...it was never going to be that. The movie needs to be taken for what it is, an ADAPTATION of a book. And Rob Pattinson was great as Edward! Maybe some of the scenes and lines could have been directed/written better but like I said overall...he was Edward Cullen!

amber Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:17 PM EST

I've already seen the movie twilight, and i thought the book was better, they picked the wrong actors and it's supposed to be more feeling.

Koz Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:12 PM EST

I think that there won't be a big gap between Bolt and Twilight because the last kid movie (Madagascar 2) made $63 million on its opening weekend. So if they are saying that Twilight will make around 65-70 then I am saying that I will not be surprise if Bolt beats Twilight.

BRADD BRADD Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:12 PM EST

O.k--- yes, anticipation for Twilight is ridiculous, but saying it will be harry potter big? there is no chance the movie will top 90 million, and i think its pretty optimistic saying it will make a HUGE 69 million opening weekend. But it will do very well, even though reviews havent been good. Bolt with 41 million is probably spot on, considering it will probably hold up very well thanksgiving weekend. 60% fall for Bond? that's really sad, but probably true. although i'd go more with a 30 million weekend. Madagascar will fall harder now taht Bolt came out-- 19 million sounds right. It iwll be a very interesting weekend. peacee

Koz Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

I think that there won't be a big gap between Bolt and Twilight. I mean the last kid movie (Madagascar 2) made $63 million on its opening weekend and if they are saying that Twilight is predicted to open around 65-70 then Twilight might have a run with its money.

Shannon Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

What can I say but the Twilight Saga is amazing and for people who were as enthralled with the books as I was, we were expecting it to come to life on the big screen like it did in our hearts (and the directors should have known that with a following like Twilight that was one sure way to GUARANTEE a hit) The only problem with this movie was the fact that the directors should have invested a few more dollars and added twenty minutes to develop the characters more. I mean why not give the readers waht they want. With a book like Twilight that's what should have been done. All in all the movie was good it just wasn't as good as it could have been. Casting was great. Kristen did a good job portraying Bella (that sort of smart, independent not your typical teenage girl) and Rob was well Edward. All the Cullens were great. But all is not lost. They just have to get a new director and screenwriter and Sumit can redeem itsself with Midnight Sun.

Kim Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:33 PM EST

Jess, I totally agree with you. They are wrong about the age and type of audience this it's attracting: There are sites out there called 'Twilight Moms' for a reason. Women in general love it; even us married ones, and the husbands-for the most part- don't mind coming along for the ride.

Jess Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:23 PM EST

I really don't think comparing Hannah Montana's audiences and Twilight is accurate. There probably are some (sorry) weird h.s. girls who like Hannah Montana, but most of that crowd is about ages 5-12.

Kim Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

OK, I'm seeing that there are a lot of haters. Is it really such a surprise that it's not a play by play of the book? How could it be? Movies never are! I LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT! Edward was beautiful, I was totally swooning (and I've been out of my teens for years...won't say how many years.) Please don't go expecting the book-- go expecting an interpretation of it. Bella is fantastic, I loved all of the actors, and can't wait to go see it again! By the way, let's not discourage any body from going to see it, they might love it like me; and we want to see the rest of the books in action, don't we?

Aubrey Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

I agree with KATIE. Twilight will never EVER be as huge as HARRY POTTER. I'm a fan of both series and there's no point comparing the two because they're beautiful in different aspects. I'm quite disappointed with the reviews, but i have to see twilight next week (here in the philippines, it will be shown on novemebr 26).. i just hope it won't be THAT awful.

ReinaC Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:05 PM EST

I enjoyed the movie last night. I'm 38, loved the books, my daughter is 20, sister is 29, my 12 yr old niece went and a friend of my daughter's. Anyone who expects any movie to be as good as any book, knowing that everything in a book can't possibly fit into a two-hour movie, should expect to be disappointed. I do feel a lot of the intensity was there, but for non-readers, they may not understand why. I feel it was a little rushed and some of the scenes that were changed were disappointing, but reasons are understood. I wish more of Bella and Edward's bantering, their days of interrogating each other, and more of the restaurant scene was left in the movie, it would have made non-readers see how involved they are with each other. If the movie is successful and they hit their goal for making the 2nd movie and so on, I think each movie with only be more successful. I do feel the movie was enjoyable and I plan to see it again tonight.

Katie Clark Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

I went in with mild expectations. Movies are never as good as the books. I hate to say it but I was still very disappointed. If i hadn't read the book i would have been completely lost. If they do a sequel, i hope they get a new directer.

Courtney Cole Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

Twilight is my all time favorite book. I went to the midnight premiere with high hopes. Thirty mins into it, I was ready to leave. It was as if they teared pages out of the book and put them in whatever order they wanted. Nothing was even close to right. NOTHING. I was highly disappointed.

christina Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

ok one of my friends went and saw it last night (my mom wouldn't let me go -_-) and she said it was incredible. and seth on stepheniemeyer.com said that it was awesome. im pretty sure its going to be good. im going in a few hours when i get out of school. i've seen soo many previews and trailers and sneek peeks that i think its going to be amazing

Nathan Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

The only vampire movie I have any interest in seeing is Let The Right One In. Every critic on planet Earth (aside from EW's that is, because they're owned by Time Warner) says it's by far the superior vampire film.

v Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 01:28 PM EST

Wow, I was utterly disappointed to say the least. This movie did NOT stay true to the book, there was no depth to these characters, Edwards Charm was all but lost, Bella ( Kristen) looked like she was having seizures every 5 seconds(can she blink and twitch anymore? OMG), and what was with the background music? Did anybody that took part in this movie actually read the book? They left out crucial scenes and completely botched the ones they had. Where was Stephine Meyers in all this? WHAT A LET DOWN! WOW!!!

billyc Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 01:24 PM EST

enuf with the Twilight hoopla - do they really think it will be THAT big - it will make the same as High School Musical 3 - same demographics

Poops McGee Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

True Blood is better than Twilight.

Catherine Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:02 PM EST

Nifty thing on Box Office Mojo lets you look at "similar" movies to Twilight to get an idea of how big its BO might be. Out of about 15-20 movies, *5* of the "similar" movies made more than $150 million (the amount Twilight apparently needs to make to warrant a sequel).

Guess what the five movies were? Yes, all five Harry Potter films. The next highest was Interview With the Vampire at about $105 million (all five HP films were $200+ million).

Based on what I've heard from the midnight showings (most of which were sold out), the diehard fans have gotten it out of their system and poor word of mouth (even a lot of the fans didn't like it) will probably cause a drop-off over the rest of the weekend. I don't see it making $70 million opening weekend, sorry. EW may hope so because it's hawked the crap out of it, but no.

TP Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:48 AM EST

I went to the midnight premiere of Twilight and can honestly say that I was about 90% happy with the outcome. We have to remember that the movie was made with a mere 37 million dollars. Much unlike most "blockbusters" with budgets of twice or even three times as much. All-in-all, the director and screenwriter did everything this tiny budget allowed and stayed very true to the book. Of course, they couldn't put in scenes that die-hard fans considered crucial to the story line (ie. the blood typing scene, the conversation from the car and the meadow scene) but did a great job with the adaption. Robert Pattinson, in my opinion, tried too hard to be the "perfect boy". At times I found myself cringing at the re-enactment and almost felt sorry for the poor actors trying to live up to everyones expectations. I will, and repeat, will go to see the sequels if they are made and will still keep rereading the books until I need a new set.

Courtney Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM EST

Are you kidding, I loved the books but this has to be one the worst movies ever made. The action sequences were laughable, Edward was awful, the makeup was pathetic, and Jasper was just embarrasing. Maybe they're playing several versions because the one I saw sucked.

Kara Strate Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

I really, really wanted this movie to be successful. I think most people will go and see it as a result of much hype. It goes without saying that the books are incredible. Yes. I recently became aware of them shortly after the release of Breaking Dawn and have read them several times. At any rate, I think I will have to see the film again. Of course I was thinking, "this wasn't in the book, that didn't happen here....." But overall it was an above-average teenage film. If I hadn't read the books and known of Edward and Bella's intense connection I would have thought the film versions were slightly off. I would not have believed they loved each other as they said. Their performances left me confused. I thought the remaining Cullen family delivered to a tee. Some scenes appeared in the film that weren't in the book, but they could have been, they fit. I think mostly Edward was just awkward, and both he and Bella didn't smile enough. The climax was done pretty well.

Misty Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:47 AM EST

I went and saw Twilight at the midnight show. I thought is was good. I am a big fan of the books. I feel they did a pretty good job of staying close to the story line. Always a book will be much better than a movie of course. It was a movie geared for teens. I have teens and I really don't think they should be seeing a vamp movie where everyone is getting their heads ripped of and tons of blood. Not to mention some hungry Vampire who wants some ass oh and by the way let me kill you as I get off! I think people who feel the movie is a waste should not blink twice about it. Let the fans have the fairy tale. I feel the actors did a great job with the roles they were playing. Freakin Rob Pattinson did a great job with showing the pain he had to endure as Edward Cullen. I feel this is a good movie and everyone hating just needs to shut up!!!

candy B Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:41 AM EST

only 69 mil for opening weekend and your seriously only predicting and almost 20 mil difference between it and bolt? Okay our theatre showed it in 5 auditoriums last night at midnight and every one of them were sold out..I dont live in a big town...

I love that! More of this, please, in these B.O. previews!

Kacie Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:06 AM EST

Watched the movie at a midnight premier, and I thought it was AWEFUL! I love the books and always will, but if I didn't love the books so much I would have walked out!

TexFan Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:50 AM EST

movie. Quit with the comparisons. I think it might end up with the $150 needed for New Moon to be made, at least I hope so. I'm really looking forward to seeing Breaking Dawn in movie form. They will have to have some amazing effects for that to come to life!

TexFan Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:47 AM EST

You know, I am really glad to be going to see this tonight, and I'm over 45. I taking my son, (17 yr old who has no idea with Twilight is, yes, he keeps his head in 4 wheeler mags!) and a couple of other ladies, 19, and 35. We all enjoyed the books, and are looking forward to THIS

I'm doing my part to get New Moon on the big screen by bringing two guy friends to see the movie with me tonight. It looks awesome, maybe I can even get one of them to read the books after they see this.

I caught Bolt last weekend in a special viewing, and it's great family viewing. I also caught Madagascar 2, and it was very entertaining and amusing as well. I have no doubt that Twilight will be #1, but $69 million is a huge stretch for a nitch story. I'm saying it makes $40mil tops this weekend with a huge drop-off for next weekend. Sorry Twilight fans, no sequal for this disaster.

I love how some people come on here just to criticize, and they obviously have no idea what they're talking about.

The audience will not be primarily teen girls. I know males, even 20 something/early 30 something males who find the book somewhat appealing and want to see the film just because. And the book appeals to 30 something women for a reason, it's called romanticism. The book isn't all flowers and sunshine folks.

Sure the movie may not be perfect, but like I've said before nowadays no one wants anything serious, people want an escape from reality. This movie will probably do what they predict up top-why because there will be a lot of people who will see it repeatedly this weekend.

And others like myself, who wish to avoid the crowds this weekend will see it next weekend.

It will probably do pretty big numbers the next two weeks with nothing else of major interest coming out next weekend(don't count Australia, Nicole Kidman can be a buzzkill to any age group).
