It wasn’t the first time that David Cook had been back to L.A.’s
Nokia Theatre since he won season 7 of American Idol there last spring. But
performing at the American Music Awards pre-show on Sunday still brought out the jitters. “I actually get panic attacks whenever
I’m in a five-mile radius of this place,” he told EW.com following his two-song set in the courtyard, a stone’s throw away from the Idol finale showdown
stage. “It’s home to one of the most
nerve-wracking moments in my life.” In the months since, Cook has performed at the Staples Center across the street, as part of the Idol summer tour, but Sunday’s visit for the AMAs stirred up memories nonetheless. “I’m presenting, so I do have to walk on that stage. We’ll see how
it goes. If I have a freak-out or something, it’ll make for good TV, I
suppose.”
In fact, for Cook and his fellow Idol finalist, David Archuleta, the competition continues, in a way. EW.com also bumped into the season 7 runner-up, getting his take on their current close race in record stores. (Archuleta’s first week tally of 183,000 is already in and sales numbers for Cook’s debut are due out on Wednesday.) Archuleta, for one, said he’s content with his album’s performance. “I’m
quite comfortable with second place,” he quipped. “Right behind
Taylor Swift is not a bad place to be.”

The AMAs were so bad again this year, possibly the worst they’ve ever been, and David Cook didn’t help.

Bring in the mature Archie fans who hate David Cook… can’t wait fir the nasty comments to come. This week has been bad for them so they gotta hate on the Cookie who’s been having a great time.
David Cook was awesome at the AMA’s! He rocked the house and looked great. His presentation was perfect. David Cook is TOO Hot to even comprehend! Just wait till you see how many albums he sold…………LOL!

I kind of understand the bitterness of the Archuletta fans. I mean, they thought they had another Clay Aiken on their hands…#2 outperforming #1…what is it about “won by 12 million votes” don’t they understand?…time to move on Archies! DC won..fair and square!
David Cook’s eyebrows? Really? This is the new Cook diss? Bwah ha ha! His eyebrows are pretty much the same they’ve always been. NEXT!
Anyway, Cook and his band were crazy good. I’d say Cook, Pink, and Annie Lennox were the highlights.
Really? This is what we’re worried about today? Eyebrows? Can we have a little love for his stylist? That outfit he performed in last night was all kinds of kewl … and hot. Best of the night in my book: Pink, Annie Lennox, Pink&Sarah M, and of course, Cook.
Jeez, overreact much? I see nasty comments made about both Davids all over the place. Congrats to Cook for what will surely be a stellar number of records sold. I don’t know why as an Archuleta fan I still need to say that. Congratulations Cook. Congratulations Cookies. Congratulations word nerds. Congratulations. Congratulations. Now, can we please proceed with ignoring the trolls and celebrating whatever music or musician we like? Oh, and again, congratulations. Your guy is awesome. He’s the best. He’s perfect. Oh, and I hope he is the biggest star to ever walk the earth and sells me more records than anyone has ever sold. Ever.
Good luck David Cook. Since he won’t make any $ from his album (even if he sells 10 million) and 19M takes 50% of the rest of his dough, I hope the fame will be enough.
And remember 1 million albums is not enough. 19M just dropped Jordin and she had 3 monster hits and went platinum (without all that $ for promo either). Cook seems like a decent guy.

I’m a Cook fan but I really wish Archie the best. I adore him but his fans are a different matter altogether.
Glenn, I know Archie fans who feel the same exact way you do but about Cook’s fans. I have tons of friends who are Archuleta fans, and believe it or not, we don’t sit around talking about Cook or his fans all the time. How many of us do you even talk to? If all you ever see or hear are the idiots that post stupid comments on these boards, then that’s your problem.
Saw David Cook on the AMA last night. He really looked good. Loved the suit on him. He was wonderful on the stage singing and also when he introduced the guest on the show. Looking forward to seeing him on tour.

Loved seeing David Cook on the AMAs last night. He was fabulous as always and so was Declaration. When Daughtry won, I thought, well, maybe that’ll be David next year. Go Cook!

Why does every mention of the Davids on the EW site have to renew a competition that is already over? Each David has his fans and we enjoy the music that they make very much. It is really not about competition for most of us any more. I thought that Cook was great last night–better than most of the performers on the regular show and there is nothing different about his eyebrows, despite what a certain nasty blogger might say. Stop stirring this pot and celebrate both Davids for the talents that they are.
Why does he have to screech and scream through all his songs? He actually has a nice voice, but the screaming choruses in all his songs obscure it. He sounds exactly like the lead singer of about 10 current bands (Daughtry, Nickleback, Lifehouse, etc.,etc…). Do we really need another clone? The AMAs just reinforced for me how awful the state of music is today.

David Cook was terrific last night on the AMA awards show. The only part that was upsetting was when they went to commercial half way through the first song. That was very frustrating. He did an excellent job introducing Taylor Swift, making it about her and not him. And by the way, he looked gorgeous. I went back and checked his early pictures and his eyebrows look pretty much the same. What a petty, silly issue anyway. I wonder how the Archies would feel if their idol were attacked the way David Cook is attacked. Poor Archie must be wondering what he did to attract such rude, mean-spirited nutcases.

I don’t get it. Why does every Cook compliment have to be followed by an Archuleta diss and vice versa? Guess what? They are BOTH talented and have different audiences. Lord, let it go, people. I love Cook’s CD (though Light On is NOT my favorite track) and my niece, who is 12, loves Archie’s. I hope they are both successful. And this eyebrow thing? Get a life, people, and wish them both well.
David Cook really rocked it at the AMA red carpet. He looked HAWT! Archie looked good also, but he always looks for uncomfortable in interviews. I can barely watch him. Of course his stage dad Jeff was there on the red carpet also, and sitting right next to him at the awards. What is with that? What would be so horrible for Archie to ask a girl to go with him? Like a date? David really needs to start growing up. He is going to be 18 next month. And why does Jeff always wear the stupid hats?
Fake soundscene is funny. In a pathetic kind of way.. So sad when someone takes on another’s persona because their own is so vacuous. In the same sad way Cook apes Daughtry.

Sue, you really need to stop calling out posters for being “fake”. It is just silly and ridiculous. So childish.
I’m as sick of the Cook – Archie comparisons, as the Cook – Daughtry comparisons. They’re ALL a hell of a lot more talented and hardworking than the people who diss them. These are all young singers /musicians /songwriters who are struggling to to make music that would reach an audience. Even their vocals are different. Cook does NOT sound like Daughtry does NOT sound like Archie. Even their songs don’t sound the same. You people who think they sound alike are either tone deaf or have never bothered listening to their music and just ape the herd mentality where American Idol is concerned. Which of Cook’s and Daughtry’s songs sound alike?! There’s a snotty superiority complex that even many serious music critics have about Idol. I’d like to see some of the pampered “established” artists enter the Idol grind and see what they’re really made of. Why is an Idol alumn’s career path somehow less credible?
