Honestly, a Friday night slot brings less pressure than any other night (except Saturday, which would be the real kiss of death). As for why Joss went back to Fox -- I think he may have had contractual reasons. But management is different now, and so is something else: internet streaming. If people turn out in big numbers to watch Dollhouse on the web as well as on TV, I think the network will be less likely to give it the quick hook.

I think that it is clear at this point that Dollhouse would have never aired anywhere on Fox's schedule if it wasn't created by Joss Whedon. We can always hope that the Sci-Fi channel might pick up the show. I always believed that Joss Whedon's dramas would be better suited for cable. Why do I believe that Firefox was cancelled? Joss Whedon kept producing a "R" rated episodes for a network (although sometimes the R-rated words were disguised in Chinese). Also having a working prostitute as a major character was bound to create problems.

I really don't see this as that horrible a thing. I understand the decisions that Fox made with their weekly schedule, and I'm not sure where Dollhouse would have fit other than Friday. Plus, as is said in the article, expectations are lower on Fridays. I doubt Dollhouse is going to appeal to mainstream America (which seems to prefer different versions of procedurals to anything original at the moment), so it is likely to only have its cult audience. As that audience is probably limited but will watch it on whatever night, those numbers will look better as a Friday audience than as an audience on a different night. (And do so many of you truly think that Fox would throw a bunch of money at a show just to purposely sabotage it? That makes no sense whatsoever. I wouldn't deny that they (along with other networks) are too quick to pull the plug, but purposeful sabotage would be stupid and just shooting themselves in the foot. I cannot buy it.) Just my $.02.

Here we go again. It's gonna be Firefly all over. Put Dollhouse after a lackluster show. Couple that with a lousy night. Add in the fact that Fox is notorious for not allowing its shows to really develop an audience (they cancelled Do Not Disturb after what, two episodes?). This situation is a trainwreck.
Hopefully this'll go straight to DVD, we all know Eliza Dushku can carry a show, and Tahmoh Penikett has a ridiculously large following due to BSG.

I do sorta see the dilemma, and I want Fringe to do well. But I challenge Fox to move Fringe to Thursdays if it does well after Idol, and then pair it with Dollhouse. On the upside, pairing Dollhouse with T:SCC is not all bad, with Summer Glau (late of Firefly) a star. T:SCC may not be doing as well as Fox wants, but I doubt I'm the only Whedon fan who followed Glau through the 4400 to T:SCC. The pair may be synergistic, and let's not forget that the best XFiles were on Fridays. (IMHO.)

This will be all about marketing. FOX has to push VERY HARD the whole "Sci-Fi Friday" bit. If they get decent ratings, that'll be enough.
