Ratings: 'Knight Rider' continues to stall

It’s not a great sign when a new show that you’ve given a full-season pick-up falls dead last in its time slot among 18- to 49-year-olds, especially when it’s nostalgia-fueled kitsch like Knight Rider. But NBC’s stalled drama’s 5.1 million viewers, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, couldn’t keep up with Fox’s Bones (10.1 million), which took the 8 p.m. hour among young adults, or a special Wednesday edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars results show (15.6 million), which won the time slot in total viewers.

CBS killed, as usual, with Criminal Minds (14.3 million) at 9 p.m. and CSI:NY (11.7 million) at 10 p.m., winning the night for the Eye net overall. And ABC’s sophomore Wednesday lineup continues to falter: Private Practice (9.5 million) and Dirty Sexy Money (a dismal 6.2 million) just couldn’t compete.

Of course it is cheesy! but you gotta love KITT, he is the best actor in the whole show! along with the PIXAR light twins :) and his old nemises KARR :) KITT would have looked better as a vampire.

when you make a show as cheesy as this of course you rating are gonna be low. Please give your viewers more credit. Your show looks like a commercial for Ford automobiles. PLease…

I never thought Knight Rider would be a ratings winner but I like it anyway. I know it is cheesey, but it is ok entertainment. I hope it makes it to next season. Two seasons of Knight Rider is good for me.

  • Rob Postuma

Looks like DIRTY SEXY MONEY won’t be around for season 3 with those ratings, which is a damn shame because the cast is superb. Like a lot of ensembles, maybe too much is going on at any time for any one thing to really catch anybody’s fascination, but in this show someone gets off a murder conviction and it’s done with the excitement of a fly landing on your sandwich.

Someone needs to be fired over at NBC.

  • Mikey M

This is a horrible show and why it got a full season pick up I don’t know. Why more people aren’t watching Pushing Daisies, I don’t know either.

  • Christy

I actually kinda like Knight Rider. It’s fun. I’m so sick of all the blood and gore on every other channel and spare me any more procedurals. I like this kind of pure mind fluff escapism. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy some of the more “thinking woman” shows, but sometimes, it’s just plain fun to just watch mind fluff.

This might not be saying much but my 8 year old LOVES this show. Just like I did when I was younger. I hope it stays around.

Guys this is great, if you love pushing daisies that is. now they have this load stuck on them all season, pushing daisies ratings look great, and they could fit it on the network better than abc has been able to. Sorry, just trying to find a bright side and nbc’s desperation works here

I remembered when the Knight Rider movie came out. The movie totally sucked and was not appropriate for young children at all. Threesomes?? Lesbian one-night-stands?? Wow, times have changed. After the show, many people came to these very message boards and stated, if Knight Rider gets re-done as a series, it will not be watched by all of the various posters (myself included.) Apparently, the studios thought we were bluffing. Knight Rider is going the way of the Bionic Woman. Maybe now the studios will learn that we do not all want some form Gossip Girls. If I want to see threesomes, drunken sex attempts in bathroom stalls (shout out to Jamie Sommers), or interracial lesbian one night stands, I will do it the Christian way and download it illegally, thank you very much!

Knight Rider is jusr plain crummy. I watched the movie, one show, but couldn’t stand to watch the second one – to dumb! And the silly changing of the car from supercar to all kinds of trucks is something more for Power Rangers and such – cartoons!

as an avid watcher, i told my friends that knight rider isnt as cool anymore because our technology has made KITT unimpressive. think about it. cars today come equipped with blue tooth tech, gps, visual displays on the windshield, voice commands. the only things modern cars cant do is transform.

I have watched every episode. I’m still waiting for a coherent plot to appear in any episode. Before there was KITT, Michael, Devon and a mechanic. When they added new team members on the original show it started to go down hill. This one started with a HUGE ensemble cast which seems very bad.

I like KR! So what, its pure mindless cheesy entertainment and you know what, it never aspired to be anything else! If I wanted to have some serious telly I tune into something else but the NBC hour is IMHO a great way to forget about the hustle & bustle of RL. (even if it comes in the form a talking car ;-)
KR2008 is a welcome relief from a decade endless lame productions dressed up as so- called “reality tv”. KR forever and kudos for NBC to sticking with this show.

ITA! Enjoy the show for what it is ….entertainment and it`s great that NBC decided to continue with the show. There seems to be enough fan interest to give Knight Rider a fair chance and perhaps with more episodes ordered, the KR production team will beef up the show with better storylines & FX to draw in more fans. Meanwhile, I am looking forward Wednesday nights!

6.2 is a dismal rating for Dirty Sexy Money. It’s a shame too. That was absolutely the best episode ever for that show. People probably gave up waiting for the show to actually have a full interesting hour. For so long it has been like the first cousin to Brothers and Sisters. Bland, and dull, with a hint of provacative entertainment. Now that it seems to be on track, it may be too little too late. Still, that was a well put together, highly entertaining hour of drama. ABC should also be happy with the nearly 10 million viewers that tuned into Private Practie. FOX’s top show for the night barely had more viewers. Any show on CBS or ABC that can pull in 8-9 million viewers should be considered a success. Both networks are so far ahead of the other networks in total viewers that they can afford to carry some lower rated shows a bit longer. So, ABC, please don’t cancel DSM or Pushing Daises yet. Both seem to be coming into their own.

  • BigManEating

What’s really sad is that I find the original Knight Rider to be less cheesey than this new POS.

  • Anna

I’d hardly call 9.5m for Private Practice dysmal. It’s the highest-rated show from last season that has survived the 10 months off-air & wins the night in the 19-34 key demo. Can’t say the same for any of the other new shows from 07.
I know EW will take any opportunity to slag off the show regardless, but at least be fair and give credit where it’s due.

I think KR is a bit lame, but maybe kids and teenagers like it. It just seemed more edgy with the HOFF. I say ben silverman needs to bring back the Cosby Show!!! http://www.mynicefriend.com
