Ratings: An election happened -- you watched (mostly on ABC)!

Categories: TV Biz, TV Ratings

More constituents watched coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election on ABC than any other broadcast network last night, according to preliminary overnight ratings, with NBC ranking a close second. (Final figures addressing the fact that the election returns were broadcast live in all time zones are due on Thursday evening. Check back then for a full report.)

The CW was the only network to air its regular Tuesday night programming: 90210 (3.0 million viewers) and Privileged (2.3 million). Barack Obama and his punch-drunk supporters weren’t the night’s only winners, though — over in cable land, Indecision 2008: America’s Choice, coanchored by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, drew 3.1 million viewers for Comedy Central, making it the most-watched election special in the network’s history. Hats off, Nation!
