Ratings: Barack Obama, World Series hit it big

Oct 30, 2008, 04:03 PM | by Annie Barrett

Categories: Ratings, TV Biz, TV Ratings

Barackobama_l Barack Obama's 30-minute presidential ad -- aired on CBS, NBC, and Fox -- drew in a total of 26.4 million viewers Wednesday night, with NBC getting the most love. Meanwhile, ABC's decision to skip Obama's ad and air recently flailing series Pushing Daisies paid off, as 6.6 million viewers chose pie over politics (a no-brainer!), a 14 percent increase from Daisies' audience last week. But it was Fox's telecast of World Series Game 5 (which finally concluded the game that started but was rained out on Monday) that won the night with an average of 16.7 million viewers over 90 minutes.

Both of CBS' trusty Wednesday-night procedurals lost viewers this week: Criminal Minds (13.8 million) was down from 15 million, while CSI: NY (13.6 million) lost 800,000 viewers from last week. The New Adventures of Old Christine (7.6 million viewers) dipped only slightly. Meanwhile, both of NBC's hourlongs saw ratings spikes: Deal or No Deal (9 million viewers) enjoyed a 16 percent bump from last week, and some of those Dealers stuck around for Lipstick Jungle, which averaged 4.9 million viewers after hitting a series low last week with 4.3 million viewers.

The second episode of The CW's new series Stylista lost 30 percent of its series-premiere viewership from last week, while this week's Amsterdam-set Top Model lost 800,000 from last week, thanks to the campaign special on neighboring networks. (I always suspected Tyra's foreign policy was thinner than Obama's. Now I have proof.)

Latinos4McCAIN, you are obviously the one who's been brainwashed if you STILL think Obama's a socialist (do you even know the meaning of the word? And are you familiar with the phrase "progressive tax system"?). Why are you voting for McCain? Because you WANT your healthcare benefits taxed? Because you want the top 1% wealthiest people getting a bigger tax break than you? Two points my friend:
ONE HEARTBEAT AWAY
90% BUSH

OBAMA/BIDEN '08

Latinos4McCAIN Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 11:33 PM EST

McCain 08 I vote for experience, POW !!!!!!! Obama is a socialist, communist and a liar!!! I thought this country was full of knowledgeable people, this prove me wrong.. Obama is a brain washer, people open your eyes!!!
The next Hitler,Castro, Chavez, Daniel Ortega is about to be born!!

PA Voter Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:35 PM EST

No, no, Amanda, honey. You don't seem to understand that the power works the other way around too. The President can veto anything the House tries to pass. Republican in control. Economy in the toilet. McCain = 90% Bush.

MissSassy Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:30 PM EST

saffron, even insiders from the McCain campaign are calling this woman a "diva" and a "whack job". [source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/15073, among others] Didn't her dismal performance during the Katie Couric interview enter your domain of "political insight"? The problem here is that, no matter what you say, the polls indicate that voter confidence in this woman is extremely low [Palin gets a negative 36 - 39 percent favorability, down from 47 - 23 percent. source http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x2882.xml?ReleaseID=1218]. And according to the Baltimore Sun 10-27-08: "It is clear that Obama has the upper hand, with multiple scenarios to reach the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. Obama is ahead in every state he needs to carry and in several that McCain cannot afford to lose, including Colorado, Ohio and Virginia. Worse for McCain, many political analysts believe there is little McCain can do to change the dynamic of the race"

Amanda Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 09:12 PM EST

It is amazing to me that most everyone seems to forget that Bush is a Repubilcan President running the country with a Democratic House of Representatives. To anyone who cares to pay attention, this means that anything Bush proposes MUST be approved by the (opposing)House, or it will not be passed!

saffron Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 05:39 PM EST

Miss Sassy, I wasn't defending Sarah Palin. I was setting things straight for confused little america first.
Now for really defending Sarah Palin... You said that Palin did "cheerfully accept $150,000 in freeby clothes from the RNC". The clothes will be donated to charity, so be put to good use. On the other hand, Barack Obama spent $5,300,000 on that Greek Temple at the convention solely for his self-agrandizing. Barack's $5,300,000 masturbatory aerobics: you'd defend it to death, but not a woman's basic right to accept stuff for free. Are you a Obama groupie?

PA Voter Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 02:39 PM EST

Let's look at McCain's accomplishments:
Voted with Bush 90% of the time.

PA Voter Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 02:36 PM EST

More on Obama's accomplishments:
As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. Recognizing the terrorist threat posed by weapons of mass destruction, he traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. And knowing the threat we face to our economy and our security from America's addiction to oil, he's working to bring auto companies, unions, farmers, businesses and politicians of both parties together to promote the greater use of alternative fuels and higher fuel standards in our cars.

PA Voter Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 02:35 PM EST

I'm a registered Independent as well, so no need to call me a sheep. So your argument against Obama strengthening our schools is "how about blaming parents for not spending time with their kids doing homework"? Come on. What kind of lame dumbass response is that? And if all you can do to refute what I say is to blather your 'opinion' instead of fact, then don't bother wasting space on this message board. And school vouchers won't work. Know why? Because in McCain's economic plan, he's going to freeze all non-military spending for at least a year, so where's that voucher going to come from? How are our schools going to get money to make sure all the kids have text books so they can do their homework? I don't expect you to answer any of these questions. You seem to be fresh out of answers.

Miss Sassy Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

saffron, you should be ashamed of yourself, defending that horrible Palin sham of a "maverick". I didn't realize the definition of maverick was to try to get your brother-in-law fired, cheerfully accept $150,000 in freeby clothes from the RNC, drag your kids on trips paid for by taxpayers, use the word "socialism" like she knows what the hell she's talking about, and get called a "diva" and a "whack job" by members of McCain's campaign. Yeah, good job. Now you look just as stupid as she does.

Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

PA voter - quit blaming the schools and teachers, how about blaming parents for not spending time with their kids doing homework, if your going to have kids be prepared to sacrifice YOUR time to raise them correctly instead of having the government raise them for you. Whats BO going to do about keeping baby daddies home? Now back on the subject just give 3 not 4 or 5, just 3 key pieces of legislation he's passed. FYI I think for myself, I'm independent you sheep.

OBAMA/BIDEN '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!

saffron Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

america first, you're confused and rightfully so. Not just a little, but a LOT confused. Here's what you've been actually told:

* If you were born in and grew up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'the messiah'

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a ruthless killer.

* If your name is Barack you're 'Christian married to the same woman for 19 years while raising two beautiful daughters'.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a redneck.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are brilliant.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're an idiot.

* If you're a member of city council 1992-96, city mayor 1996-2002, chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission 2003-04, a brilliant state governor, the first female governor of that state, you have no executive experience.

And so on, my little confused american.

McSame/Failin' 08 Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

Isn't the government's intervention in the demise of our financial markets not a form of regulation? Why aren't Republicans not calling that socialism? For the person that wrote that the beauty of this country is that a person can always find another job or work for themselves, why is there currently a 6.10% unemployment rate under this administration?

Miss Sassy Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:19 AM EST

PS "miss sassy is an idiot":
You said "the bottom 20% you mentioned currently PAY NO INCOME TAXES!" You didn't even understand my post. I said 'households that make less than $20,000' not 'bottom 20%'. And if these people are making ANY money at all, they ARE paying social security and wage taxes.

PA Voter Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:15 AM EST

halla, you're obviously just another dime-a-dozen don't-wanna-hear-it Republicans. I give you legitimate information, and you shoot it down. Typical. What kind of an answer are you looking for? Because I suspect you're not really looking for an answer as to "what good things has Obama done?" because you'll never believe anything anyone says to you in answer to that question. Obama wants to make things easier for you, unless you make a ton of money and have been receiving tax breaks under Bush for the last 8 years. He wants to improve our schools. McCain just wants to give us useless school vouchers instead of helping our existing schools. Plus, if Obama dies, we get Joe Biden as President. If McCain dies, you get Sarah "diva whack job" Palin, and I didn't say those words, members of McCain's campaign did.

dire ria Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

come join the revolution! united with brother Barack, brother Harry and sister Nancy we will run a democratic centralist gov from Washington and do all the people's business whether the opposition likes it or not. we will overcome.

Miss Sassy Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:09 AM EST

Dearest "miss sassy is an idiot":
Do your research before you call anyone an idiot (pot. kettle. black.)
Folks who DO NOT pay social security or wage taxes do not qualify for a tax refund under Obama. However, folks who do not pay for social security of wage taxes DO qualify for McCain's healthcare rebate check

The republican party is dead , all the candidates they produce are no good, I feel for McCain his own party doesn't like him. you should of heard the pundits on the right in the primaries and in 2000 election, now they bring out this idiot Palin.

halla Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:57 AM EST

PA
- "Focus and Fresh thinking" is not a law that was passed, try again.

- "His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online", first of all he worked with a republican to develop a WEB site, nice.

- "He has also been the lead voice" being a lead voice doesn't constitute real work.
So what I'm gathering is he worked with a republican to bring online government spending. I guess your really saying he hasn't done anything. I guess with 18 months of experience you can only do so much. I wonder what he did with the other 17 months. I forgot that's actually 16 since congress gets a month of vacation.

miss sassy is an idiot Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Miss Sassy, it is important to point out that the bottom 20% you mentioned currently "PAY NO INCOME TAXES!" How can you get a so called "BREAK" from something you do not pay, that average of $19 would be too much, let alone the crazy amount Obama wants to redistribute to them.

Xena Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Here you go, BubbaGump. All you have to do is go to barackobama.com for answers to your questions:
Obama and Biden will fight for a trade policy that opens up foreign markets to support good American jobs. They will use trade agreements to spread good labor and environmental standards around the world.
Obama and Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on startup and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation.
Invest in early childhood education: The Obama-Biden comprehensive "Zero to Five" plan will provide critical support to young children and their parents. And they will help states move toward voluntary, universal pre-school.
Barack Obama will reform No Child Left Behind: Obama and Biden believe teachers should not be forced to spend the academic year preparing students to fill in bubbles on standardized tests and he will improve the assessments used to track student progress to measure readiness for college.
There's a lot more on the web site.

america first Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you were born in and grew up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor; spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If you're total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive and next in line behind a man in his eighth decade.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising two beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and then left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a true Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

Gpsy & Saa Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

Obama helped fund Kenyan thug Odinga who promised Islamic state (in a country where muslims are a 10% minority): http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=78324
Quote from the report "Odinga took over the office of prime minister in Kenya after his campaign called for protests of an election he lost by more than 200,000 votes to incumbent Mwai Kibaki. The resulting violence by marauding Muslim mobs left 1,000 people dead, hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes and 800 Christian churches damaged or destroyed. No Islamic mosques were damaged, however."
Barack has enough clout to influence election in Kenya, but does nothing to help end female genital mutilation in that country http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/36/193.html. Barack, proud os his Kenyan heritage.
BBC - Odinga confirms that Barack is his cousin: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7176683.stm

Miss Sassy Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:50 AM EST

more for halla:
McCain voted for Bush's failed policies 90% of the time. McCain helped establish deregulation, which destroyed our economy.
TAX INFO per npr.org:
Under McCain's tax plan:
All households would receive some type of tax break under McCain, with the biggest breaks going to the top 1 percent of wealthy households. For instance, households earning $3 million a year would get, on average, a tax break of close to $270,000. Families making less than $20,000 would get about a $19 break.
Under Obama:
All households, except those in the top 5 percent of the income scale, would benefit from Obama's tax cuts. Households making less than $20,000 would, on average, get a $570 break.
THERE YOU HAVE IT, FOLKS. THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE. But McCain does.

BubbaGump Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:43 AM EST

I find it interesting that most of the postings are not specific to any real change. The only change we will see is whats left in you pocket with all these tax increases that are being purposed. If you think raising taxes on corporations and the top 1% will solve your problems you should consider a second job or stop living beyond your means. Raising taxes will cause companies to move, outsource or go out of business. Our jobs will go over seas or will be lost to areas with lower taxes causing higher unemployment. If you voting for Obama please let me know what this change it all about. And I don't mean this pie in the sky change with nothing to back it up. Be specific about what you know he is going to do.

In the U.S. Senate, he has focused on tackling the challenges of a globalized, 21st century world with fresh thinking and a politics that no longer settles for the lowest common denominator. His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. He has also been the lead voice in championing ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress.

I have always been confused about that- what about the rabbit ears and tv antenna people? Obviously the cable and satellite people keep track of what we, the people watch on our tv's in the privacy of our own homes-- But what about the OTA - Over the air? Like NBC; CBS; Fox; PBS..etc? I hope someone can answer that one for me.. Chow

like barack obama said, its time for a change. the way that man presented himself last night were words that can truly bring out millions of peoples hearts that night. he went through rough times as a child, he knew his mother couldnt live because they didnt have enough money to relief her cancer, i tell ya the man has a whole lot of heart. it brings us closer to him, through all the great things that we believe he can do for our country. barack obama needs to win this election.

"You can always tell who's a Republican" Just look for the Attack lines.......LOL

Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

Palin should go home and be a mother to those babies! Where are her priorities?

NP Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:28 PM EST

Wow! Rothchild, you think that because someone does not speak the English language they are incapable of understanding politics. Hmmmm...that's right because only English speaking people are political. You are an idiot!

Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:27 PM EST

Laughing out loud :0

Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:26 PM EST

Right on A. Davis!! Thats wonderful to know. I'm in California and I am pushing for Obama because i really believe in him. I think that he will show that when a person has the right combinations of humility, integrity, compassion, love for others you can do anything.

Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:24 PM EST

Stop the push with Bush!
More Pain with McCain
No More Drama with Obama!!!!!

a davis Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:20 PM EST

I'm a Republican who recently crossed over to support Obama for President to bring change to America. As a result my husband, adult children and parents have also added their support. We will vote for CHANGE!

winter32842 Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:16 PM EST

Obama uses people money to buy ads and win the election, McCain uses people money to buy dresses and beers.

Don C Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

Hey right on JADE :)

Don C Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

McOldie is to old to be president.
But hey I guess you guys can invest in Sarah in 2012.

Maybe she can show your party who
has a real socialist mindset.

Don C Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:09 PM EST

Steve have you lost your mind? show me the teacher that makes 50k and I will bet that, that person has been teaching for 20 years....

Obama is the real deal!! u conservatives just don't know how to lose... Bush has screwed your party for the next Decade.... and then some :)

Jade Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

All of these McBush republicans are out of their mind and out of touch. If all of you loved paying that $5 for a gallon of gas and are happy with it let me ask why? If the huge gas companies enhaling your paycheck is okay with you your insane. Gas companies made almost 15 billion bucks in their thrid quarter off of us. Its not just dems lose their homes and jobs, its everyone. So if you can honestly say all of these things are okay and willing to live in the poor house forever go for McBush because it makes so much logical since. If Obamas a "socialist" then McBush is obviously a "facsist". Get with the program rich republicans like McBush are great at "brainwashing" all of the ignorant middle class and poor republicans into believing they will become rich. Wake up and smell the folders its not going to happen they just want you to help them take more of your money. Also if you think Palin is somewhat qualified to lead anything you are extreamly sad. Just watch her Katie Couric interview, it was a joke just like McBush.

Don C Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

Don't worry Obama is out thinking them every step of the way even election night, Lawyers are ready and this COUNTRY is ready to celebrate.

90% Bush Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

Karl Marx, McCain isn't BETTER than Bush. He's 90% Bush. Do the math.

Arrigo Beyle Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:57 PM EST

Dear Karl Marx--

Relax, the election is almost over, and then you can go back to doing whatever it is you do, and continue to amass your fame and fortune as you have done so brilliantly till now. Oops.

Xena Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

Karl Marx, I do have something to say.
1. I would NEVER vote for McCain simply for his 90% Bush record and because of Palin, who even insiders of the McCain campaign are calling a "diva" and a "whack job."
2. I would NEVER vote for McCain because people like you say nonsensical and naive things like "In America if you don't like your job you can get a new one [in THIS economy, YEAH RIGHT]. If you don't want to work for anyone you can work for yourself [see above comment]. This crap about the top 1% make 100 times more is socialist BS [ever heard of OIL COMPANY CEOs?]" which means you people just don't get it and you're desperate.
PEACE, MAN! OBAMA/BIDEN '08

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:29 PM EST

Well Boston -- Either one will be better than Bush. I'm not in love with McCain but Obama is just a talking head. I don't think he could govern his way out of a paper bag. Good luck to all of us...

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:22 PM EST

Karl, I like you buddy but really "you can get a job if you want" "work for yourself" if you want? So I guess we could have complete escaped the Great Depression, if only we had tried enough. Don't make me laugh. There is certainly a responsibility for us as citizens to not sit our assess but there is also a role for Government. I don't like either extreme and neither is practical.

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:19 PM EST

Dave please - that is a defeatist attitude. In America if you don't like your job you can get a new one. If you don't want to work for anyone you can work for yourself. This crap about the top 1% make 100 times more is socialist BS. You've had too much brainwashing. You can do whatever you want in America. Obama can't fix your problems with his blathering, lawyer speak.

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

TB, i suggest you look up what propaganda is in the dictionary: "information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, etc." It covers both negative and positive infomration (help or harm). Its the spreading information for a movement. An ad I see on TV for a free bible or a church group is also propaganda. And I didn't say Karl Marx or his kids have to watch it. If you check, all I was saying was it didn't make sense to call it brainwashing.

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:14 PM EST

Hey Xena the warrior princess - If you got something to say let's hear it?

Dave Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:14 PM EST

Karl Marx, Reagan was living in a distant path. He is right, there is nothing that government can do that private sector can't do more efficiently. But how do they do it? They do it by laying off people and forcing the leftover employees to work 12 hours for 8 hour's pay. If they refuse, they lose their job. It is worse than dictatorship. Haven't you noticed how the top few in just about every company get 100 times richer while the remaining 95% to 99% work more and get paid less?

tb Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

I don't get it Bostonbean. You admit it is propaganda but you tell Karl Marx he should have his children watch it? That's crazy. Propaganda is what they show on TV in countries run by dictators.

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:12 PM EST

Obama is still a politician and can't be excused from that. As much as we want the truth from them, we really can't handle it. Even at hint of something painful or negative yet true, we bolt so who can blame the politicians for sugar coating. But I still have more confidence in BO leading than McCain even on the War front.

Xena Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

Karl Marx, you would know all about not having a clue, wouldn't you?

90% Bush Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

Karl Marx, if you're so knowledgeable, how come you (and McSame) can't see the difference between real socialism and the progressive tax system the U.S. has had in place for the last 95 years?

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

Your right on that Boston. Our kids will still be paying for this damn war when were long gone. Obama has backed off on his plans for that as well -- he doesn't have a clue. If he wins He'll probably just keep Gates working on it.

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:08 PM EST

Um its a commercial, an ad, an infomercial. It just happens to be 30 minutes long. No one is asking to take it as any different than any other propoganda used in an election.

PA Voter Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:07 PM EST

The teacher "just doesn't know how to manage money", huh? Do you happen to know what the cost of living is where that teacher lives? Or are you just being a typical nasty, snarky, unsympathetic, on your high ol' horse obtuse Republican? Man, the humanity coming from you Republicans is just dandy!

Donald Trump Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:04 PM EST

I would have rather seen him do a town hall meetings with McCain rather than this scripted hollywood BS. Of course someone might have asked a questions he didn't like. This election is a joke.

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:04 PM EST

You're right Karl. Government is wasting a lot of money. But right now we have a lot of debt, wars to pay for, a failing economy that we've started paying for (thats the real and tragic move to socialism that we should be worried about) that the private sector can't help with. And if we're going to stop changing the taxes, why don't we stop at the tax code 8 years ago, 12 years ago and so on?

90% Bush Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

Hey, Karl Marx, ever heard of DEREGULATION? Bush has. McCain has. And our economy, which is in the toilet in case you haven't noticed, has.

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

There should be no change in taxes to support government Boston. Government is to big and wasteful already. Let's start getting rid of it instead of growing it. Like Reagan said, "there is nothing that the federal government can do for you that the private sector can't do better and more efficiently."

remote Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

Hey Steve, I think your right. Obviously a lot of folks used the remote. "Pushing up Daisies" had a 14 % increase ini viewers from last week. Good use of funding Obama -- wait till he gets a chance to spend your money.

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:54 PM EST

Good to hear Karl. I don't agree with your assessment but that's fine. And progressive taxes were invented almost a century ago. Its nothing new. The only difference is that depending on the current government, who got the better end of deal varied. There is really nothing socialist about it, if so every president in the last century and beyond is a socialist.

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:51 PM EST

I've got both his books Boston. Interesting Marxist fantasy but they have no place in America. Why doesn't he go to China or some other appropriate place. I don't want someone elses earnings - do you?

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:47 PM EST

Karl...there you go again. As I said, you do not have to agree with him or any other politican. He said his piece, John McCain said his piece. You go inform yourself what the truth is on both sides because honestly each has an agenda so its up to us to discern the 'messaging' and make our decisions. I still don't see what the brainwashing is. If you just sit there and allow yourself to hear only one side then you are brainwashing yourself, Obama nor McCain have anything to do with it.

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:44 PM EST

Its brainwashing when there is only one side of the story is being rammed down your throat. That is what the Russian media did to its citizens in the 70's. I guess we'll get used to it if Obama wins since socialism is a transitional phase towards communism. If you want to get educated start at the follwing not at a canned Obama fantasy show: http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=303952499910291

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:43 PM EST

As expected the most ignorant are the ones hating on Obama. Just because you can't speak proper English doesn't mean you don't understand it or the issues. There isn't an automatic connect there. And I know plenty of people who speak well and have turd for brains so I wouldn't go too far out with that argument.

Robinson Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:41 PM EST

Istead of worrying about what everyone else makes why don't you get busy making yourself better (that's the American way) instead of sitting around waiting for the Messiah to give you a handout.

bostonbean Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

The fact that Karl Marx thinks getting informed is brainwashing says a lot about him. You can hear it out and disagree or decide against it but the simple act of hearing and/or learning doesn't equate to brainwashing. Good luck to your children

Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

That was a wonderful Obama infomercial! People need to stop the hating against Obama! And for those who say it was brainwashing or propoganda- grow up! If you had watched the damn thing then you would have actaully seen that it was about what he is going to do as president and four different stories about Americans going through tough times and how he would help them. There wasn't even a mention of John McCain! So stop with the arguments that make no sense whatsoever, it's just plain desperate.

tb Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:38 PM EST

Obama just showed us exactly what he is -- a TV illusion.

Zela Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

Ok, let's have reality check. Teachers do not make $50K. Some administrators barely make that depending on the state. I don't know any single or married school teachers that don't have a second job....For all of you cheering those who didn't watch...did it ever occur to you that they are already Obama supporters? No, because deductive reasoning is above your grade level!!

Karl Marx Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:36 PM EST

I'm sorry I did not have time to enjoy the brainwashing. I am trying to figure out how -- if Obama wins -- Obama take an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution when he thinks it is incorrect and needs to be changed?

R Rothchild Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 04:35 PM EST

Just a side note.

People who don't speak the English language (our native language) should not be allowed to vote. They can't even understand they issues and they easily manipulated by multilingual friends who tell them who they should vote for. Watching CNN, I heard a guy, who could barely speak English, say that he was going to vote for Obama because when he heard John McCain speak all he could picture was George Bush. When the reporter asked for a better reason, all the guy could say was that he wants change. Well I hate to break this to you buddy but change doesn't automatically mean things are changing for the better. If you don't understand the policies and programs of each candidate, you should not be able to vote. The presidential election has become a popularity contest. It's sad.
