Although Fox’s telecast of the World Series won Wednesday night’s ratings in terms of total viewership, CBS triumphed over the other major networks also airing original programming, thanks in part to a boost from The New Adventures of Old Christine, which drew in 8 million viewers. That’s the series’ best audience of its fourth season, even though it’s 20 percent down from last season’s average. Meanwhile, reliable procedurals Criminal Minds (14.7 million at 9 p.m.) and CSI: NY (14.2 million at 10 p.m.) easily won their time slots, while Gary Unmarried (7.8 million) saw a slight gain from last week.

ABC’s only good news last night? A ratings boost for Private Practice (7.8 million viewers), which reached 8 percent more patient viewers than its last new episode on Oct. 9. Dirty Sexy Money was down just slightly from its last episode, while Pushing Daisies wilted 10 percent from last week’s audience with 5.7 million viewers. All of NBC’s hour-longs suffered as well: Knight Rider (7.2 million viewers) dropped half a million talking-car enthusiasts from last week, while Lipstick Jungle (4.2 million, down 31 percent from last season’s average) saw its worst numbers yet for season 2.

The CW’s series debut of Stylista reached 2.5 million households, while America’s Next Top Model (4.4 million) enjoyed an 11 percent gain from last week. Somewhere, Tyra is smiling…with her eyes.

Old Christine,I just broke up with you! You have sickened & disappointed me..

I love Old Christine. But her brother Matthew’s character REALLY some storylines. Every episode is about his unnatural attachment to her, or his unnatural attachment to their mother. I’d love to see him land someone (preferably a boyfriend, but a girlfriend would do). And yesterday’s episode had no Barb. SHAME!! Wanda Sykes makes my week.

Old Christine gives of a bit of The Office vibe. It makes you laugh out loud and squirm a little bit. And JLD is probably the best comedic actress working today (I love Tina Fey, but even she admits JLD is a great actress).

  • Schmooz

I was a mild Lipstick Jungle fan last season, but this season I never even realize that it’s on unless I happen to flip by it.

  • don’t cancel daisies!

i’m so worried for pushing daisies—abc needs to promote it more. i don’t think people really understand what it is:)

  • Janeway

I love Pushing Daisies! It is the most original (and visually exciting) show on TV. The characters are great. People need to give it a chance!!!!!

  • Lauren

I agree that JLD is such a great comedic actress! Brillant. Love the show. I really like Pushing Daisies the few times that I tuned in and thought it was original, funny, and visually beautiful. But I just don’t find myself interested to make sure to catch it every week. I can’t pinpoint why…Private Practice was a decent episode last night. Last season was horrible! But I think they’re improving…and adding the actor from Gilmore Girls doesn’t hurt! I think his chemistry with Addison is better than Tim Daly’s. (sp?)

Am I the only one that watches Lipstick Jungle? I read they are cancelling it for new season of Medium?? Ask Ausiello is this true, your email wouldn’t work for me! Ps. Christine is only good when Wanda is on, let the fans save Pushing Daisies and bring it to cable network instead. The boss on Stylista is super scary, and was worth watching.

Old Christine and Gary Unmarried are two of the best shows on the air right now!!! As much as I wanty Jay Mohr back on Ghost Whisperer, I do NOT want his new show to go away. It’s HILARIOUS!! and Christine keeps getting better and better!!

  • Jennifer

It’s not hard to understand why PD’s numbers dropped when ABC didn’t run ONE SINGLE promo for it – not even a preview after last week’s ep. How do they expect it to perform when it’s clearly not a level playing field?

  • Bob

    Old Christine is SO GOOD!

  • Andrew

“Pushing Daisies” can’t get cancelled. This season my not be as good as the first one, but it’s still fun to watch.

  • Dave B

Old Christine has been my favorite show on TV for the last 3 and a half years! I’m so glad it is thriving in its new time slot. Hopefully the show will gain more respect and attention that it rightfully deserves!

  • Sandra

I flipped between CSI and Greys. I like both shows. Then I watched ER. Hate to see ER leave-but after 15 years-I guess it is time.

I love cbs comedies. Except Worst Week but that probably wont last much longer. Gary Unmarried i hope it lasts. They really need to move it to Mondays though and move Worst Week to whatever.

Personally, I find Old Christine to be clichéd and trite. JLD’s character is ridiculous and unbelievable, as are most of the stupid situations she finds herself in. Sorry, but I am never surprised by anything on the show.
Pushing Daisies on the other hand is crisp and original, like nothing else on TV and a delight to watch. Everything about it, from the cast to the art direction is top notch. Unfortunately, it probably does not appeal to the mass market that prefers it TV to be bland and predictable. I guess it’s too much to ask that a show be intelligent and stimulating.

Pushing Daisies is the one of my favorite shows to watch. I thought is weird, but I fell in love with characters. And I like the narrator voice and the scenery it’s so cool. And I think it’s true that ABC doesn’t promote it as much as as Ugly Betty (which I like to watch), Grey’s Anatomy and Samantha Who. I blame who ever is suppose to promoting Pushing Daisies, not promoting it. They’re only promoting the one’s that will bring them ratings. Well, I think if ABC promotes Pushing Daisies it can give them good ratings too. But they’re are not tying. So I can’t really blame the viewers if, ABC isn’t promoting it. I hope they are not doing that on purpose to get rid of it. But it’s funny how ABC promoted Caveman more than Pushing Daises and what do you think happened it? It got cancelled that’s what happened.
