James Denton weighs in on the 'Desperate Housewives' time shift

Categories: TV Biz

Filming for this season’s Desperate Housewives is eight episodes in, but cast-member James Denton, who plays Mike Delfino, says he’s only recently come around to the five-year-leap–into-the-future twist, an idea creator Marc Cherry has previously said was inspired by the time manipulation on Lost. “I wasn’t crazy about the idea in the beginning,” Denton told EW.com on the DH set earlier this week. “I thought it was gimmicky, and even Marc admitted he sort of stole it…. But I realized they were right. So that’s why I’m not a writer.” Was it the stellar ratings (to the tune of 18.4 million) that changed his mind? “The audience seems happy with it,” he said. “They can reset some story lines and move ahead faster than they would have. Yeah, I’m a believer.”
