Bravo to re-air CBS drama 'Swingtown'

Sep 27, 2008, 02:28 PM | by Dan Snierson

Categories: TV Biz

Swingtown_lSwingtown is jumping into bed with a new partner: Bravo. The network just acquired the exclusive cable rights to CBS' spouse-sharing, '70s-set drama, and plans to re-air it sometime this fall. (The edgy, ratings-challenged show, which finished its 13-episode run a few weeks ago, has a slim chance for renewal on CBS.) Although the move would seem to open the door for Tom, Trina, and the rest of the bell-bottomed gang to make another summer of love — and on cable, where many felt that the series belonged in the first place — Bravo says that it has no plans to order additional seasons of Swingtown. Might supergroovy ratings this fall change anyone’s mind? Fans can only hope.

Swingtown fan! Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 03:01 PM EST

Just wanted to chime in incase any decision makers read these comments-please bring Swingtown back! I'm not even a TV watcher- saw it online thanks to Netflix and I'm hooked! This is the ONLY show I care about seeing...for at least the past 5 years. It's that good!!

Babbs Tue, May 26, 2009 at 04:27 PM EST

absolutely loved this show - recorded all of them - will be sadly disappointed if it does not return. Very ENTERTAINING, isn't that what Television is for?

Jada Fri, May 8, 2009 at 11:36 AM EST

Love this show!! Perfect for my summer guilty pleasure!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!

jubillee25 Mon, Apr 6, 2009 at 09:43 PM EST

Took me back to the days. Please Bravo or CBS bring it back. So many other shows just aren't worth getting into. The music, the clothes the hairstyles. Just perfect. Why would they take this one off the air? Let's hope they bring it back. I'm waiting.

Deanna Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

Please bring this back to CBS!!!!! It was a trip down memory lane for me from the clothes, music, hair, etc. Loved it and loved the people in it also.

Kat Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 01:10 PM EST

After watching the Swingtown marathon in full, I have to know what happens next! Please, please get out on the dance floor Bravo and give us more!!

Ann Sat, Oct 25, 2008 at 11:21 PM EST

I so was looking forward to a 2nd season of Swingtown. I love this show. It is so much like my own life, I related to many of the issues and it is a shame that people bury their heads in the sand about open relationships. We have shows about straight and gays, why not swingers??

eileen Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 10:44 PM EST

please bring this show back, my best friend and i would always make dinner and watch the show. we are so sad that it might not come back. please please bring them back.this is from a girl that was born in 1976

Liz Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 10:25 PM EST

This was the best show i have seen in a long time. just like the other comments my husband and i watche together we even got our neighbors watching with us. Please someone pick up a second season.

Carol Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 09:50 PM EST

Please Bravo-get with the program! Swingtown is one of the best new shows out there. Unfortunately it was a midseason replacement and didn't have any hype surrounding it. I live near the town it takes place in and most of my friends (who would love this show as well) hadn't even heard of it! Order more shows!

tammie Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

I get so tried of getting involved in a good show just to have it cancelled Swingtown was a great show all my friends and i would watch then talk about it. not to many shows are worth talking about I hope cbs or bravo picks it up.

Andrew Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 09:05 PM EST

I'm 20 years old and I LOVED this show, It doesnt matter what year you were born in, this show can relate to anyone, Please Bravo pick this show up!

leesa Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 08:42 PM EST

I was so addicted to this show . I watched every week . It was a nice change. I get hooked and its gone ! Please Bravo ! I am 45 and have trouble finding shows that I really like . Pick the show up . You will get the audience .

Carolyn Fri, Oct 24, 2008 at 06:54 PM EST

I grew up in the 70s . I love the music & the series . It brings back some great memories . Bravo , keep it going ! You can't loose ! Peace .

linda Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 09:20 PM EST

Someone bring this show back. It was different and fun. The acting was superb. Don't give up on this one. It has a lot more stories to tell. And it is destined to be a mega hit. Very addictive.

BW Thu, Oct 23, 2008 at 10:11 AM EST

This was a great program, a nice change! My husband & I grew up in the 70's and really enjoyed watching the program together. We couldn't wait to watch the next episode. Each episode was well written with great charactors! Bring back more new episodes!!!!

Truxie Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 04:56 PM EST

First may I say since when is this show not a reality show this is reality as life really exists. Maybe you and I don't agree with many things that is on television but thats the beauty of this you don't have to watch it, Change the channel!
If CBS doesn't want to keep Swingtown then they own Showtime so let them have it... But I might add when was the last time you watched Soaps daytime they all have slept with and /or married to each others husbands and/or boyfriends so isn't that immoral oh but kids are in school so they just record the show and view them later.. And isn't it to late for the kids to be up anyway!!
Sorry but as a mother I took control of what my children watched just as I have control over what I watch and I enjoyed seeing a blast from the past.
I am from the 70's and enjoyed the memories...Thank You
Sorry I am a little upset!!

Kari Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 11:52 AM EST

I am sooooo very happy to have found this out! I hope it will be picked up for a second season as well.

Tecie Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 06:41 AM EST

All those channels...and nothing to watch. I too am sick to death of reality TV. Yeah, I know....less costly to produce. BRAVO, NEW EPISODES OF SWINGTOWN...NOW...PLEASE--BEFORE THE CAST SCATTERS AND IT'S TOO LATE.

Gina Fri, Oct 3, 2008 at 10:07 PM EST

Would really like this show to continue. I watch very little tv but made sure that I caught this show every week, loved the characters and story line, please bring it back. Sick of reality tv.

Camkel Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 08:49 AM EST

I agree with SLB. Loved Moonlight and then they went and cancelled it after all the hints of no it is coming back. I swore I would not watch another CBS show and then was sucked into Swingtown and CBS dashed my hopes again. I guess the only thing on CBS with longevity is reality shows!

Lulu Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 12:21 PM EST

Oh please please please please please!!!!!!!! Just the teensy light of hope made my day!

Delon Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 03:34 AM EST

J'adore Swingtown!!!

jessica Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 04:08 PM EST

i loved swingtown there has to be a second season. i could not wait week after week to see what was gonna happen please bravo think of making a second season i know there will be alot of viewers

Eile Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 11:38 AM EST

I loved this show I am so happy that it will be back on Bravo. The thing we need now is new episodes because I watched every single one of the first season. I guess I will just have to watch again to prove that its beloved enough to deserve a second one. I mean I HAVE to know what happens to these characters. The cliff hangers were to good!

Lauren S. Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 09:15 AM EST

I love swingtown!!! Bravo or CBS please, please have a second season...the cast is great and the nuances of the interpersonal relationships are intelligent and far exceed most of current programming--namely, reality TV! Keep Swingtown alive!!!!!

Lana Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

Great, it was one of the FEW shows my husband and I liked (together).

Please bring it back, pretty please with whipped cream and a cherry on top!

Hillary Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

I love this show! Please bring it back with new episodes! I'm glad that they are re-airing the old ones because I think I might have missed one episode-- I think it was during the time that CBS moved from Thursday nights to Friday night.

Shannon Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

I really wish they would bring it back. This is why I hate getting into a new show and investing in the characters :(!

dublin04 Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

More new episodes! More new episodes! More new episodes!
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease

Erica Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

PLEASE bring back Swingtown for a second season!

Pat (puka) Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 01:34 PM EST

Thank you Bravo for picking up the show. This is a great show that we look forward every week to watch.

Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 12:57 PM EST

great great show...start watching after the 3rd episode then was hooked...please bring it back...

SLB Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 12:47 PM EST

CBS seems notorious for cancelling shows people like (Moonlight). I try not to watch anything new CBS comes out with, but, unfortunately i liked this show too and what a surprise, they cancelled it. I refuse now to watch the show they are replacing Moonlight with. It'll probably get cancelled anyway. I am so done with new CBS shows.

Jenn Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 11:48 AM EST

I don't understand...do the networks even look at boards like this? If they did they would jump at a chance to renew AND produce more episodes. The reviews I've read from the public are 99% positive (how many shows can boast that?) and the show just happened to be put at a crappy time slot...BRING IT BACK!

angelface Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 11:47 AM EST

it would be a shame if Swingtown DIDN'T come back for another season.
My husband & I wait with baited breath each week for another episode.
Good stuff!!
Please don't disappoint me CBS.

Stephanie T. Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 09:10 AM EST

The problem with airing it on Cable was that Cable would have pushed more nudity and would have taken away from the conflict of the three main couples. I doubt that CBS will give it another chance next Summer but I hope they do. If yes, I think that music volume needs to be adjusted. I know that the 70's had no stereo but the grainy tone sounds fake.

Anthony Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 12:31 AM EST

I have to be honest. I stumbled onto Swingtown, but within 10 minutes of watching it, it felt like the best television I had seen in, gee, a decade. So many other programs got me a bit interested, but then sort of developed into forumlas. Not Swingtown. Every episode was like another great chapter of a wonderful book. Being from the '70's, it was like being dropped into a time machine. It was painful when the show ended after 13 episodes with so many loose ends. I'm really glad BRAVO has picked it up for re-broadcast. With the existing fan support, and the new fans it will attract, I feel this show has legs for at least five full seasons if a TV channel has the guts to make the investment it deserves. I hope that both CBS and BRAVO agree.

kara Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 11:08 PM EST

thanks bravo, hope to see some new swingtown makings soon, it's the best show, deals with real life issues on family and friends, we all are hoping to save swingtown!!!

Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

thank you bravo, i'm addicted and need a fix of swingtown

angela Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 10:24 PM EST

THANK YOU, BRAVO, for showing 'Swingtown' the love and respect it deserves. PLEASE consider producing a second season!!!!!

maureen Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

i still cant believe it was cancelled, it sure does generate quite a bit of buzz.
i always looked forward to watching it and seeing Roger, he was my favorite!

Jack Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

This is an awesome show. I hope CBS renews it for another season. The actors on this program are superb.

Bill Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

Bravo, please pick up this show. It is fantastic!

Donna Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 02:41 PM EST

THANK YOU, BRAVO!! This is a great show and I wasn't too happy to see it end. I do hope you additional episodes are made for a second, third, and so on season.

Nik Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 02:32 PM EST

Love this show!! Please bring is back CBS!!!

sven Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 12:17 PM EST

For those with streaming netflix, the entire first season is available there, and without commercial interruption. If I'm going to watch it, that'll be the way...

Julie Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

This is fantastic news! For Swingtown being a low-rated drama, it sure is getting a lot of attention even after its ended. There's still a lot of positive buzz around the show, and CBS still hasn't cancelled it, and now Bravo picks up rights to re-air the first eason. Hopefully, with high ratings, they'll be encouraged to order a second season!

And notice that Flashpoint is getting no attention what so ever, even though it's already been picked up for a second season.

Melanie Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 11:34 AM EST

Thank You BRAVO for stepping up where CBS should have!!! I can't wait to watch SWINGTOWN again. Hopefully a Season 2 will follow in the spring!!

Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 10:26 AM EST

happy happy joy joy - I need Roger back!!!!!

Yolanda Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 09:59 AM EST

I hope Swingtown comes back with new episodes. Kudos to Bravo for giving the show another chance. FX would have been a great home for it as well.

Jaime :) Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 11:35 PM EST

This is one of the BEST shows on television! Please bring it back for another season!!!

Save Swingtown Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 11:17 PM EST

Donna Vespe Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 06:46 PM EST

Great show, let's hope it gets renewed!

E. Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 06:21 PM EST

Fantastic news! Hopefully they might still find a way to keep the show going too....

I love your behaviour...

I love your
behaviour, the light
of a blackbird
and a luminous
farm; I listen
to you when
a care disappears
and then, in the
sound of a new
day, a magical
dreamland invites
me to cry....
