Director Brett Ratner has been plenty vocal about wanting to develop a movie based on the game Guitar Hero. But Activision, the company that owns the franchise, isn’t going for it. “I’d really like to do it, but they’re not letting me,” he tells EW.com. “I expressed my interest, but because it’s such a success, it’s like now there’s no reason to make a movie about it.” Ratner is a big fan of the game, incorporating it into videos he’s directed for Miley Cyrus and Mariah Carey, and he envisioned a story about a small-town kid who dreams of fame and wins a Guitar Hero competition. “The game is wish-fulfilling, everyone can be a rock star.” But despite the setback, Ratner is not giving up hope. “I might prevail,” he says. “I usually do.”

A Guitar Hero movie? And here I thought that Brett Ratner couldn’t get any more ridiculously stupid.
You couldn’t?
Worst idea for a movie ever.
Some Video Games are ideal for movies, but Guitar Hero is NOT one of them, think of something else.
the only decent Guitar Hero story was that South Park episode.
So he wants to make a movie about a guy who fakes playing the guitar, yet who is cheered when he (presumably) wins a contest against other fake guitarists. Oh, yeah, where do I queue up for that movie?
If you want to see axemen in action, how’s about renting Zep’s “Over The Hills and Far Away”, or AC/DC’s “Got Live If You Want It”. Now those are two movies that feature REAL guitar heroes.
“I might prevail,” he says. “I usually do.”
Just like you “prevailed” in X-Men 3…
This would be even worse than The Wizard, unless they can plug the Power Glove just as much.
there are bad movie ideas, terrible movie ideas, and then there are sadistic attempts to inflict pain on movie-goers. Letting Brett Ratner direct anything falls somewhere between the later two. Brett, if you read these posts, please understand. they either recognize you as a horrible film maker, or they simply realize that a guitar hero movie is the lamest idea ever. Who wants to watch a kid win a guitar hero contest? let alone a fake one. i mean, look, even if it was a semi-good idea, a movie like that would requir either amazing comedy or alot of heart. and as we’ve seen brett ratner can only deliver explosions… explosions and chris tucker. and frankly i think they’re both over rated, reguardless of how low you rank chris tucker.
It’s been done – Ralph Macchio – Crossroads. Look it up.
p.s. Ratner – X-Men 3 sucked… why should anyone give you another franchise to f(oul) up?
