CW not sending out '90210' screeners to critics

90210_l TV critics will have to wait to see the CW's highly-anticipated new 90210 series just like everybody else. The network announced today that it won't be sending out customary press screeners to generate reviews -- and ideally, good buzz -- for its new drama, which debuts Sept. 2. "We're not hiding anything... simply keeping the lid on 90210 until Sept. 2, riding the curiosity and anticipation into premiere night, and letting all our constituents see it at the same time," the CW said in a statement.

90210 isn't the only new fall show that critics have yet to see. Since the 100-day writers strike postponed production on many freshman series, most of the networks (with the exception of CBS) haven't been able to issue screeners to the press for review.

I saw the premiere already in a preview in Vegas. This show does suck. I didn't like it much at all. Boring. The old characters from original 90210 were barely in it. The main character (the girl in the pic above) says to her boyfriend "just tell me you love me" really pathetically right before they have sex. Also, these kids are supposed to be 15 years old but look like they are 25 y.o.

They're obviously hiding it cause it sucks.

If you were a network with a property that people are interested yet skeptical of, wouldn't you want word of mouth to help generate a positive buzz for the show?

Again, the DListed.com suggestion of retitling this show to "Brenda Walsh: Don't Get It Twisted" is the best thing I heard so far. I'm only tuning in to see Shannen and AnnaLynne McCord.
